Man, when that acoustic guitar first comes in. I find myself amazed every time I listen to the song at just how heavy that riff sounds even on an acoustic.

This song always brings me to tears...METAL TEARS. The live live version on the Roundhouse Tapes is quite the experience to watch too. This (to me) is the greatest Metal song ever performed. Opeth is life (and death)

@@PJAlphaMusic I dunno, maybe it's the dark and the light Opeth puts on display. So much talent but the music never goes over your head. They can be big dumb headbanging Metal, intricate, progressive, acoustic, smart, they hit all my sweet spots I guess. Blackwater Park being my all time favorite Metal album helps too.

I gotta admit, it took a while for this song to grow on me, but alas, it did, and does more so with every listen. Being on this side of the reactions I can't relate to what goes on with reactors getting videos blocked. I do know that I've watched a huge amount of Opeth reactions with videos that haven't been an issue. It's a shame that we won't be able to see what your seeing and what in particular you're being excited about. Videos live from Red Rocks, Royal Albert Hall, Shepherd's Bush really shouldn't be an issue. But like I said, I'm not on that side of it so.... #whatdoiknow. 🙃 I'll still be watching no matter what though. Looking forward to the poll. Hoping for a Watershed win. ❤

@@PJAlphaMusic That really sucks. It must be so frustrating for you. I've often seen other reactors put a slight filter over some different band videos and that has worked. Maybe that would help. Good luck of any efforts you try. 👍🏻

"The sun sets forever over Blackwater Park" .... Nice! Now it's probably either Watershed - their heaviest album - or Ghost Reveries which you have already dipped your feet in. Watershed is the last album before Mikael stoped growling. He said something like that they had perfected what they were doing and that everything else would just be a repeat of that album, basically. Even if every album is perfection in itself, their latest album also sticks out. If you ask Mikael he says that the swedish version is the better, that the time they recorded the english version, they were just trying to recreate what they did the first time in the studio.....if you ask me I think they pull it off quite even, so it's not that important.
@PJAlphaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Oh, so they recorded both versions separately?
@mantero60942 жыл бұрын
@@PJAlphaMusic He first recorded it in Swedish but he wasn't sure if people would like it so he sang it in English too. In my opinion the Swedish version is better
@butterfliesandmoths2 жыл бұрын
@@PJAlphaMusic That I don't know. But Mikael has had more focus on the vocals on later albums, perhaps he was referring to that :) (when I said they pull it off quite even, I was reffering to the lyrics and song ... sometimes the english fits better, sometimes not)
@butterfliesandmoths2 жыл бұрын
@@PJAlphaMusic I checked it, and no they did not. He was refering to his vocals :)

If you like counterpoint I would choose Morningrise next. If you want a concept/story then My Arms Your Hearse. Or for my personal favourite, and for me the peak of their powers, I would choose Ghost Reveries (which was originally going to be a concept album before Mikael changed his mind at the end to fit in a song he wrote that wasn’t part of the story). All three are very different and are, in my opinion, the best ones you haven’t yet reacted to.

@@PJAlphaMusic I think it's because they lean more to the black metal side, Orchid is an incredible debut album, not as hard hitting and groovy as some of their later stuff, but still Opeth.

I thought the same thing until one day, it had me in a trance and it made perfect sense. When the final payoff came in the form of that distorted riff, it fully clicked and I was blown away. I don’t know how to make it happen for you but I hope it does!
