The way she plays in nodame cantabile has a context. You need to watch previous episodes so you can understand why she played it that way and why he says what he says. But I haven’t watched most of these! So now I have new ones to watch! Thank you!

@@davidkadouchpianist Yep, basically the whole story revolves around her play style being so unrestrained that no one can keep pace with her, she is all over the place, changing tempo mid piece, changing to a different note if she forgets because she can't read from the start, etc.

Just to add context to everyone raving about Nodame. Do note that Jp VC for Nodame, Ayako Kawasumi has been playing piano since age of 3, and some of the tracks in Nodame OST is played by herself and she played some on live concert too. 2002 rom com(?) "PIANO" is pretty much built around the fact that Kawasumi-san is a piano player (she composed couple of pieces for OST too)

Nodame cantabile is an older anime so it could be that the animation couldn't keep up yet with the playing, but the story is so good. I've watched all of the anime you shown and i would recommend them all.
@TomSir794 ай бұрын
I also recommend giving Nodame Cantabile a *real* Chance. 😉 It's honestly worth it. I watched, some many Years ago, the very first Season of it and was immediately hooked and right-away bingewatched all three Seasons (+ Extra Content ) of it! Basically it's a Love-Story between Chiaki, who's a great Pianist, but wants to become an Conductor, who can't leave Japan because of his Fear for Planes and Megumi Noda (aka NoDame) who is also a great Pianist, but hides her Fear of becoming a Professional, because of an Incident in the Past. They both slowly slowly melt their Fears and overcome their Struggles, get together as an odd Couple and the Viewers get presented with a funny, heartwarming, musical and dramatical Story from Beginning to the End. It's seriously worth it. In Terms of Music-Genre in Anime, it's a *Must-Watch* 😉 PS: Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto nr.02 op18 is nowadays my most liked Classical-Piece because of that Anime. Chiaki plays it and it sounds frikkin awesome! Unfortunately, i couldn't find any Anime-Content on KZbin to show you. Bummer....😞

Completely agree. Nodame Cantabile is one of my all-time favourite anime, it is so,SO well done. Both for it's musical accuracy as well as it's actual story, it's unmissable.
@andreap23204 ай бұрын
For who's interested: Story wise, "Nodame Cantabile" is a very good anime and manga, it has been among the most sold manga and anime in Japan for several years and for a reason. It's light but it's very entertaining, a plethora of funny charactes and deep perspectives, it's also probably the first classical music themed manga and anime around. "Sakamichi no Apollon" is a very good anime, more stylish and elegant also animation-wise, more of a aesthetic coming-of-age-story. I've always found "Carole and Tuesday" a bit canned and forced, despite the good animation. "You lie in April" falls a tad too much in the category of young sentimental kind of story, so I'm probably not the right audience for it.

I cry in concerts but for a different reason. My daughter sang with Gwinnett Young Singers, who sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as their Children's choir, from time to time. They did a few concerts with them a year with them. Anyways, she passed away during appendicitis surgery when she was visiting in Hong Kong when she was 16. So, I love going to concerts, it is just a memory for me, though. I am usually the one who falls asleep in concerts, so I sit back around row MM, so I don't disturb anyone. Classical musical is so relaxing.

If I remember this right in the anime Nodame is very talented but very undisciplined. The protagonist is a very good pianist and a skillful violinist but he wants to be a conductor. He finds that it is far harder than he anticipated. I think the comment about him thinking only of himself is spot on for why it is so difficult for him to transition to conductor.

I went to a concert featuring the composer Eric Whitacre’s piece The Sacred Veil. It’s a piece for choir and orchestra based on the composer’s friends wife who died from cancer. In one movement the text is taken from the dying women’s last email. At the end of the piece, the whole audience was balling. I do. It know if there was one person left without a tear in their eye. It was beautiful! Yes, let’s normalize this!

Only been to one concert ever, but watching some online, I can definitely get teary eyed sometimes. Music can be extremely beautiful, and some performances just contain so much feeling that it resonates with you. I would love to hear Gheorghe Zamfir play in person for example. There are several songs from anime that also produce the same effect, mostly because of how they were depicted in the anime. The Greensleves cover in the anime "The Anthem of the Heart" is a perfect example of this. Same for the music during the one of the final scenes of Chrno Crusade (though I don't know the name of it.). It's like how when you smell a familiar scent, and it brings up old memories that you didn't even know you had. The same is true for music to some extent.

If the violinist doesn't want the pianist to steal their thunder then they have to try even harder to make their own performance outstanding so it can stand up to the piano. Because the piano has the inherent advantage of being able to pull off more complicated chords and it projects better due to the sheer size of the instrument.
