@python_71793 жыл бұрын
@@rwboa22 Yes but Holst was heavily inspired by Wagner. Wagner was revolutionary in ways not every great composer was, even Bach (he mastered the techniques of his day and did them better than anyone else, but he was no great innovator) Wagner changed music theory itself with “Tristan und Isolde”. Wagner is easily the most influential composer of all time, because his influence went far beyond music and into pretty much every branch of the arts, sciences and philosophies (Nietzsche most famously)

Wagner was a genius and is the true father of contemporary dramatic music imo. He thought of "cinema" before it even exists. Don't ask me how, lol. It's incredibly ahead of his time and until today inspires people of the caliber of John Williams and others. I love to hear artists influencing artists. And yes, John Williams is a musical legend of the 20th century with his works for the cinema, which I think Wagner would love btw.

Every time when I listen to this masterpiece with real joy, I can see in this music the story... First half about gathering power to some last struggling battle. Mighty force marching in glory, unseen power. Then battle like from Ragnarok and final victory... And then second half. Valkyries had choosen best and bravest warriors and took them to Valhalla. I can see them entering from beautiful garden, through giant gates to the great hall. There are long tables with various food and endless mead is flowing between already fallen comrades, who are enjoying time and laughing... And then comes Odin (Wotan) to the hall, where they are, sitting down on the throne and welcoming new fallen souls... They are taking seats between others behind the table and live with them in eternity... Amazing masterpiece! Thank you Richard Wagner.

Wonderful dramatic music . I really like your choice of images to illustrate it. Thanks for posting this. I was fortunate to see the PBS broadcast of the Rings with their wonderful stage set.

was just talking to my dad about this a few minutes earlier and then I read your comment.. funny how the italian composers hated the german ones and vice versa but understandable... their music is worlds apart... to be honest, I enjoy Liszt, Wagner or Schubert more than Rossini or Verdi. Vivaldi on the other hand, is a step above, equal to Mozzart, Beethoven or Bach for me.

When you died in battle, the maiden that chose you before you knew of your own fate, flies down from the heavens to save your soul from eternal damnation and takes you back to the ether where you become one with the gods. That's what this is about.

That is the nordic version of the mediteranean mythos. In greek mythology , their role is far far darker. Their name is "Kires" ( keeres) ,and are female demons dressed in long red clothing. They have long bird like nails ,long black wings and huge sharp teeth. They were flying above battlefield and once they spotted a dying warrior they rushed to him, often fighting themselves who she will reach first. when reaching him they sucked his blood and ending his life in seconds and then flew to the next one. They were daughters of Night . Hesiod, "Heracles Shield" 248-263.

I am. Just watched "Wagner and Me" by Steven Fry, who is gay and Jewish and even though Wagner was Hitler's hero of the art world, Fry loves the music. Thought it was great in Django when Dr. Shultz said a black man could "be Siegfried" Django's timeline, just prior to the Civil War, was the same timeline in which Wagner was releasing the Ring Cycle in installments and Shultz was taking the position that Norse Mythology is NOT about white supremacy.
