DeeJay is incredible. He joined with VP on Butter, Bang, My Best Friend, Man in the MIrror, In My Room (incredible body percussion), and the Chipmunk Christmas Song, off the top of my head. And this of course. He was in Hamilton, off Broadway (I think).

No, ON Broadway -- lately at least. He was with the road company for awhile, but graduated to the great, white, way -- for obvious reasons. Would love a Sir Hairless critique of Bang!, which I think has been shamefully neglected.

Geoff's arrangement is so smooth, sweet, and sexy. Still paying homage to the original but he is definitely Voiceplaying around with it. Deejay toured with Hamilton for some time and then appeared in it on Broadway. His voice is really amazing. He's done several pieces with them. Your reaction is wonderful, as always!!

🦸🎼🦸 ... Fantastic stuff Sir Hairless. I knew you would find the chewy ooowie gooey chords bounced around with these outstanding singers. Geoff drives this bus , but DJ is fascinating at every level. I really like the break when Eli takes the lead. This is just a stellar cover , and I hope they do some more Michael Jackson songs. Thanks for the education Sir. 🦸🎼🦸

My special moment was Geoff’s solo final low note: he held it long enough for Cesar to sing an entire line. Thank you for noting so many delicious details I missed. It’s strange that my journey to VoicePlay began with classical choral a cappella. Love of a specific song (Veni, Veni Emmanuel) led me to Peter Hollens and modern a cappella music.

I loved this from the beginning. I'm perfectly OK with the original opening not being there. It's been a long time since I've heard Michael sing it, anyway (and I used to love listening to him sing it), so this one just kind of hit me hard right from the beginning of their GORGEOUS arrangement. Just great stuff, all the way through. Thank you VERY much for your wonderful analysis, and thank you for doing the whole reaction in the first place. JUST WOW! 😀 The chart at 11:43 -- PERFECT! My mom used to record her own background piano (and/or autoharp) track(s) for her specialized violin solos. She used this type of rhythm a LOT, because she always said it, "...keeps things moving along," which was something she LOVED to do. So you just took me back to growing up listening to my mom create her very own special ways of playing anything. THANK YOU! The song itself is just gorgeous, but more than anything, I really, really REALLY love your analysis of the music. 😀WELL DONE! Thank you, again.
@Badger777226 ай бұрын
This is Geoff's arrangement, and to me it seems like he went for almost a jazz interpretation of the song. That repetitive but constantly changing bass line that he provides really helps to move the song along, but not to "force" it along, if that makes any sense. And in this song, he almost seems to be emulating a standing bass, rather than a bass guitar as he so often does. VoicePlay once again allows their feature artist to really BE featured in the song. While Deejay is new to you, he's definitely not new to VoicePlay fans. And yes, his voice is VERY suited to singing a Michael Jackson song - so much so that he's also been featured in Man In the Mirror from VP! I'm sure others have told of his run in Hamilton, so we're not alone in thinking he's got an amazing voice. While I've heard a number of singers called "king of riffs and runs", I'd put Deejay into that kind of competition without any hesitation! Overall, this is a slower, more laid-back, less produced version of MJ's song - but it still lets you know where it's origins are, while making it VoicePlay's own.

Great reaction. There are some lovely riffs and runs in this one and I love how they make full use of the different types of voices - in Deejay, Eli, Cesar and Geoff. I like that this is a stripped back, untheatrical one from them for a change. The bare bones arrangement shows off their harmonies. Deejay's reminded me a tiny bit of Mitch in the PTX Evolution of MJ medley. Very cool tenor voice. Super cool ending too. Loved Deejay in this and his cheeky little grins!

When I went down the VoicePlay rabbit hole I was very happy & surprised to see both of them! 😆 …Deejay has such a smooth, lovely voice!! He’s done quite a few collabs w/ the VP guys. Deejay really is a special talent. As others have mentioned, VP first managed to snag him for a video while the Hamilton tour was on pandemic hiatus, but he's been back several times since, and it's always a treat. Some of the VoicePlay guys have known him for ages, though. They performed in various theme park shows together back in the day. (That's how they met a fair number of their collaborators. The advantage of living in Orlando is having access to a big pool of talented people.) Deejay was even one of their contingency plan substitute singers during a holiday season residency VoicePlay did at Disney World for a few years.

Jazz is my not-so-secret love and it feels like DeeJay's improvisational style is steering VP in that direction. Hooray! They rearranged it to feature his voice but make it their own. Those delicious harmonies! ❤ I love Geoff’s bassline, Eli’s gorgeous clear tones and the fact that we got to hear Layne sing with Cesar (One of my favorite parts. ) DeeJay gets a couple of chances to riff for a while.
