I'm not surprised. We all know that she's really on another level yet she's so humble and very down to earth. Having a 4 octave vocal range, angelic tone, perfect voice quality, falsetto and etc. you're the best. I just hope that people will appreciate all of her doings especially her singing. She's the best. Fighting seungwan.

I've been comparing her to Whitney and Beyonce too. I can hear their influence in her vocals, especially her riffs and runs and high notes. I grew up during Whitney's reign and let me tell you, it is a compliment to be compared to her. She's legendary and Wendy will one day become a legend in the Korean industry and not just as an idol.

Wendy really sounds more like a "musician" than a "vocalist", it seems to me she clearly understand her instrument (voice) and how and when to use it. I feel like she has her toolkit of options and almost always knows how to bring the right "tone" to what the music she is interpreting needs. There's a big difference with the way you play certain beats (a jazz to a funk groove, for example) and she seems to approach her musicality in a similar way. It always impresses me how she can navigate through so many kinds of emotions (in this album alone from soothing in Like Water to angst in When the Rain Stops, from melancholy in The Road to playfulness in Why can't You Love Me)and her work in Red Velvet shows brightness (Butterfly) and even some sadness in Last Love. She may always have been talented, but this level is only achieved with pure hard work. It's inspiring.

Easy is right. I don't know how else to put it, some singers sound like singing is as natural to them as speaking and when singing seems that natural for them, I don't know, it is just so beautiful to me. Whenever I call someone's singing easy, to me that is a great complement to their artistry and a testament of their hardwork.

relaxed. that's the word you're looking for. wendy is the strongest female idol vocalist in the 3rd generation vocal technique-wise and when you have the vocal prowess she has, singing is like speaking to you bc you know how to do it correctly--your larynx must be completely relaxed, not lowered nor raised, among other things, to prevent straining.

One of my favorite things about “like water” is that it kind of emulates the element physically. Her voice tone plays a big part of it, but those fluctuations and push and pulls with dynamics make it seems so unpredictable like a river flow, but it’s still so connected and smooth. I love how it connects with the lyrics too. At one part of the song she sings something along the lines of “being the water to fill your sore spots” and her phrasing kind of makes the song emulate a stream or a creek (I don’t know if I’m making sense). But her phrasing and note changes that will go up and down feel like the unevenness of rocks in a riverbed that are being filled with space by water. Like you know when you hear a creek or a stream and it’s not an even sound because there are different depths that the water is flowing through? That’s what I’m kind of getting from it. I might be overanalyzing this tho lol. Her voice just feels so “go with the flow” vibe. Wendy’s really amazing.

And then it hit me, Wendy sang it so easy, like literally so easy, with the whole dancing sequence and the constant smile on her face while singing. She knew her voice, her technic, her range, she master her voice to the point it's as easy as breathing for her.

@@chrissyalapo-calg9748 No. She didn't get rid of it. Wendy once confessed her throat hurts whenenver she tried to hit the hight note which is why she always used chest and head voice only. This mean her vocal nodule is NOT completly gone, she still have it but not that bad as she used to have during predebut so she always be cautious whenever she tried to hit high note in any of RV songs. I think Wendy talked about this on Unnie Slamdunks. What the original comment talk about is right, even their vocal teacher who are the same vocal trainee for Unnie Slamdunks, Jang JinYoung said the same things. Here's the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/eausimCLf7etl9k (timestamp: 6:58) Jang Jinyoung even said Wendy debut with vocal nodules. @@sleepyearth agreed, haters are really jealous of Wendy cause she's highly praised and there's literally nothing to use against her. and what you said about Koreans only appreciating beauty is completely true as well sadly. if they really appreciated talent, Luna and Ailee would be up there as one of the most popular soloists, but nope. Taeyeon is a very talented singer but she's among the popular and doing really well b/c she was one of the popular members in SNSD and is regarded as one of the prettiest. though IU is an average vocalist, she is like the most popular female soloist also b/c of her beauty. its disappointing how superficial the Korean gp is...

The way I smile from ear to ear watching this whole video. The pride I have for Wendy is spiking up through the roof right now. What really makes her stand out is that she was a musician and a member of a show choir. These experiences that made her one of the best vocalists and artists out there and just years and years of nonstop hardwork and dedication, may it be vocal nodules or a terrible accident. She never stops learning and training. I mean she never let go of the mic even when she being sent to the hospital. She stays true to her words that she will never stop singing until she loses her voice

lol i think they're talking about the fact that she needs a lot of breath control to continuosly sustain all those belts one after another, and that she doesn't sound out of breath even after doing all those dynamics and runs, which is probably more difficult than dancing and singing at just one level at the same time. there's a lot of technicality in this song

Idk if it is true, but it was said that SM has always been waiting for someone like Wendy so their group can debut. Also, I never heard that kind of voice in the kpop industry (the reason I became a fan of her). I kept on listening to songs or covers, and I can't really point out what's in her voice that make her the stand out. I thought because she kinda have a voice lesson in Canada or something, cuz her voice has a hint of a western vibes. I can't really tell tbh. To add, when she auditioned, SM asked her what songs with "high notes" she can sing. Then straight away sing like 6 to 7 songs of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, etc. Now Rafi comparing her to Whitney Houston became a fact.

Wendy is my bias from Red Velvet, and without a doubt she's one of the top Kpop vocalists. Many believe she's the best in the 3rd generation. Like Water is a song that not only has heartfelt lyrics but also Wendy's ethereal vocal performance. Recently, Kpop has a string of sensational female solo artists releasing their album, such as IU, Wendy, and Wheein. Our ears are being blessed by these amazing singers and their incredible songs. Btw, Wendy disclosed that originally Like Water was an English song but changed to Korean lyrically. Hopefully she will sing an English version in the future.

The fact that her natural voice has that, along with this natural richness that just goes w/her voice is so incredible. The fact that she's able to retain that within different levels of her range, including the moment where she shows off her vocal flexibility... it's really stunning and I don't think we've heard a voice that was able to do that yet."
