I was a teenager if the 60s. I was only interested in that music. But, heading into college I became involved in classic movies. That led me to classic songs, I love every era of music. Songs from the years of WW II really thrill me.

It’s a mystery how music can unlock buried memories! I’m a 12 year old schoolgirl again living in Calcutta, India, listening avidly to the Hit Parade broadcast on the American Forces Radio VU2ZU. The Americans had introduced us to the jitterbug which was very popular and has not lost its appeal even though I am 89. Ah! Well! Those were the days!

Most of these songs were popular during the last half of 1945 or early 1946.

Wow, this is a tour de force! I had no idea the music of 1945 was so fantastic! One thing that sticks out is the lovely us of American English and idioms. That era was clearly better adept at appreciating the poetic use of language.

I liked the Conway Twitty song m, “It’s Only MakeBelieve”. However, when he came out with, “I Can Tell You’ve Never Been This Far Before”, was way too far for me. I think that, apart from rap music, that is the most disgusting song that I’ve ever heard.🤢
