Some random observations: This game was played about three months before my second birthday. The umpires Honachik, Donatelli and announcer Bob Shepard were still working when I became a fan in the 70s. Alston's bid to break the game open by pinch hitting for Zimmer with Shotgun Shuba necessitated the substitution in left field , leading to Amoros' game saving catch. No mention of the absent Mickey Mantle, at least up to the sixth inning. That season Mantle led the league in triples, homers, slugging, on base percentage... And strikeouts. Edit: Mickey popped out as a pinch hitter in the Seventh. Finally, silly trivia: the announcer stated that with this game, Rizzuto broke Di Maggio's record for World Series games. Phil's record would be broken by Yogi, who still holds it and will for the foreseeable future. All three Italian Americans!

Great find. The 1955 Dodgers winning was basically what the 2016 Cubs were. A long suffering fanbase finally winning the world series. First time I heard the live radio broadcast of this historic game 7.

When the Chicago Cubs won in 2016 the one thing that crossed my mind was most definitely how it must have been in 1955 when the BROOKLYN Dodgers finally took down the Yankees. There had to have been a sense of elation and at the same time of" Did this really happen? Did I really see the Dodgers beat the Yankees?" I had that kind of stuff that crossed my mind when the Cubs won in 2016 .

This is amazing hearing this game from so long ago the only time the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Yankees. I play the STRAT-O-MATIC baseball game and have the 1950 Yankees and the 1953 Dodgers teams as they only offer some oldtimer teams. Enough players from those teams were on these teams so it is like making the players on my teams alive. Too bad Jackie Robinson and Mickey Mantle were not in the lineups that day. That was my big passion back then. I was twelve-years-old. I collected the entire set of Topps baseball cards, in MINT condition. They must be worth thousands. I suspect my second wife, 'Runaround Sue,' sold them. I just loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and Ebbets Field . I attended Pratt Institute of Technology for engineering back, in Brooklyn, in '61. I lost interest after the Dodgers moved to L.A. I still remember the entire lineup and their respective positions, including their uniform numbers. Those were the days. The good ol' days.

My first year as an MLB baseball fan was in 1955! Midway through the season, I was listening to a radio game with my Grandpa. The Dodgers were a couple of runs behind with two outs in the ninth. That's when the great Duke Snider strode to the plate. I was pretty familiar with baseball because we lived in the Bay Area and had gone to many Pacific Coast League games, but I didn't know anything about Duke Snider or the Dodgers. Anyway, The Duke hit a homer to win it, and from that moment on, I was a Dodger's fan. They won the World Series that year, and being a self-centered little kid, I thought they won because I was rooting for them. I found out, however, in game seven of the following year that it didn't work that way. My family has been Dodger fans ever since, and living in the San Francisco Bay Area has been a challenge at times. I'm excited to watch this game again as I haven't seen it in 67 years. I just wish my Mom and Dad were here to watch it with me like they did the first time all those years ago. GO DODGERS!

This was a national broadcast over the Mutual Network, so these aren't the team's announcers. Helfer was a full-time Mutual guy and Neal was part of the Indian's broadcasting crew so there's a certain detachment here. Actually, I looked it up and Helfer had started with the Dodgers under Red Barber back in the late 30's, had switched to Mutual after the war but came back to the Dodgers in 1955 so I he had done the second half of the game, you might have gotten a little more emotion, although Al, like his mentor Barber, was noted for his objective delivery of events.

Sports Illustrated decided to name a "Sportsman of the Year" for the firs time in 1955. They were all set to name William Woodward Jr., the owner of the Horse of the year, Nashua, as it's first ever SOY when Woodward's wife shot him. They had pictures and a long article on Woodward but decide to scrap it. The editor still wanted an SOY named as they'd announced it and asked "Who do we have a good picture of? They scrambled around and found a good color shot of Johnny Podres. they quickly wrote a half-page article on Johnny and he became the first ever Sportsman of the Year.

Interesting to listen to the crowd sounds on the Sandy Amoros catch. The fans didn't cheer that much on the catch, perhaps because many weren't sure that Sandy, in the left field corner, had actually caught the ball. But when he fired to Reese, who relayed to Hodges, doubling up MacDougal, the crowd erupted in its realization that the Yankee rally had been derailed. In all likelihood, had Amoros missed the ball, I feel the Yankees would have taken the lead in that inning and won the game. And Sandy was in left only because in the top of that inning, Grim wild pitched Furillo to second, so they walked Hoak and lefty Shuba pinch hit for righty Zimmer, which meant Gilliam had to move from left field to second base. For once, the breaks went Brooklyn's way.
