Upton park under the floodlights was always tough for the away side. I went to all the home games of this season and there was always a big roar when the name of "Captain, Ian Bishop" was announced. Stuart Slater looked the real deal here but never really progressed with any consistency after suffering an achilles injury and left the hammers the following season for Celtic, and never got that full England cap. Great channel by the way and hopefully many more West Ham videos from the 80s early 90s to come. I can see this channel developing many new subscribers and it wouldn't surprise me if it goes past the thousand mark by the spring.

I agree about Upton Park. There was no place like it under the lights. Loved Ian Bishop. I even gre muy hair because of him!! Thanks for the kind words about the channel. I have nealy 1000 WHU games on DVD, but unforunately many i cant upload due to Copyright. But i will carry on and upload as many as legally allowed too. Just spread the word as hopefully i wil have 1000's of games on here once finished!!!

@@classicfootballmatches6167 Yes, Bish was somewhat of a cult hero. I recorded some matches back in the day on VHS along with snooker and cricket as I attended those often also. Over the years got rid of a lot of VHS as I never really watched them and thought others would upload to YT. Not the best decision to be honest, as some of the things I had simply aren't available. I don't suppose you have any full editions of Sportsnight, Midweek Sports Special etc that might contain snooker coverage as well? By the way-I don't know if you've seen Robert Banks Channel, but if not it's well worth a look and he uploads a new video of the John Lyall years every Saturday www.youtube.com/@westhamhistory

There's a bit of a hype job happening for Stuart Slater, which made Frank MacAvennie's performance go somewhat under the radar. I know he was taken off after the 2nd West Ham goal, but he was tremendous in this game..

Tony Cottee getting some friendly boos on his return to Upton Park. All in jest, TC took it well, a West Ham legend in his own right and there's no bigger supporter of West Ham. 26:38

After knocking Liverpool out in the previous round, Howard Kendall switching to a 5-4-1 formation is what cost us on this night. We were poor and deserved nothing. I barely remember him ever playing three centre backs during his three spells as manager and we should've played 2 strikers instead of one.
