Classic Game Room reviews ROAD RASH 3 for Sega Genesis from Electronic Arts released in 1995. This combat driving game for Sega Mega Drive (aka Sega Genesis) has players piloting a motorcycle in a death race against evil opponents on tracks all over the world like Germany, Japan and Australia. Buy a bike (there's many to choose from), upgrade it and win. Road Rash 3 is very similar to the other Road Rash games on Sega Genesis with a slightly different visual style featuring a digitized sprites effect. As you play through the game the tracks become longer and traffic heavier. Grab weapons from your opponents, smash them over the head and watch out for animals on the road! The Road Rash on the 3DO (also ported to the PS and Saturn) was my favorite of the bunch. Road Rash 3 looks like it was based on the graphics digitized for that game which was later ported to the Sega CD. The graphics were simply shoveled over in to this game. Also, I am a bit glad they haven't tried to redo Road rash because they'd just screw it up. Only Criterion Games could do it justice!

i did the exact opposite for the sound. I left the amazing music on and turned the bike engine off. Absolutely hated the engine noise.

I actually love the music in Road Rash- especially the track for the U.K. and Italy. Good stuff! One of my favorite Genesis games :)

Hey there. 4 years on from your comment, so I'm certifiably insane for replying to you, really, but check out a game called Road Redemption. It's hardly a great game or anything but it IS heavily influenced by Road Rash, with modern gwafix and no doubt online multiplayer.

I don't often flat-out disagree with you, but you're totally wrong about the music. 1 and 2 had a great soundtrack, 3 was decent (the digitized guitar and very flat bass drum got grating after a while) but it was all great.

I really blame the instruments more than anything, compare the original Road Rash's soundtrack from the Genesis version vs the Game Gear/Master System version and you'll see what I mean. Yeah sure, Rob Hubbard's compositions sound okay on the Genesis, but they're absolutely outstanding on the GG/MS thanks to Matt Furniss utilizing the Krisalis sound driver.

god i used to LOVE the road rash games growing up. i must have played all the road rashes and all of the mortal kombats for years when i was younger. one of my favorite things to do in road rash was hitting the jumps and knocking somebody off of their bike while in mid air. good times

I love the music and sound in parts 1 and 2, they're classic. The snare drum is awesome, it's more rock sounding than most Genny games. Part 3, as a game, I didn't care for. Didn't like the new visual style. EA became obsessed with the 3DO version and tried to simulate it into other releases for other systems..and despite it's popularity, it was never as playable or as fun as the Genesis originals.

Just unpacked my original genesis I bought when I was 17 back in 1991, still have about 20 games and got lucky a still have road rash 3. played it last night and it still rocks. now my genesis is back in action, I play it more now than ps3. mutant league football is another great one.

The Road Rash series is awesome. I liked that if you beat the crap out of people enough they'd hold a grudge and go after you in subsequent races, if you leave the guys at the back of the pack alone they generally won't try to murder you....where's the fun in that though? I also loved ramming them into oncoming traffic.....they need to do an HD version of the old-school Road Rash style for PSN or XBLA, that would be sweet!!

Once you notice the mechanic of the race being you basically going up in tiers with NPC, changing which ones will be shadowing and teleporting to you as you get ahead, it gets pretty grating. I'm about to give up a run at mid level 3 just because it's too annoying to have the NPC that don't even have the decency of having a portrait and some trashtalk just teleporting beside you and bumping you into the innumerable obstacles you find by then.

Just note i was only able to beat up to level 3, level 4 and 5 were too hard, the superbike was a bit too fast for me, dig the trash talking great gameplay!

@katarn109 They announced a supposed remake a while ago, but then dropped the project. There is a pretty cool tech demo here on youtube and other sites. This was my favorite genesis series. I would love to see it return.

I liked that expanding thing too. When I was a kid, I actually expected there to be a RR4 that took place across the galaxy and have you race on the moon. I was a weird kid. XD

I LOVE THIS GAME!! And I have a trick to share with you: buy the 3rd Sport Bike (the one that costs $11000 or something), then go to the Password section, modify the 5th and 6th characters to 16 characters up (For example, if you have ---- aa--, it will become ---- qq--), accept the password and... well, find that out by yourselves ;D

Just played through all 3 for Genesis. RR3 is easy compared to the first two, especially with the ability to upgrade your tires. You have a larger variety of weapons here as well. Whatever your opinion on the music, it is generally higher tempo and more intricate than the first two. All games could have benefited from an ending.

It dumped the cash system, (I always hated buying bikes/paying for repairs/running out of cash and then the 'Game Over' bit.) gave the AI's some real attitude, (Bikers fighting bikers that aren't you. Hilarious.) brought in the analog sticks and turned both the sound AND visuals up to levels that belonged on PS2...not x/1! I never want to part with my Jailbreak disc. Which is why it blew my mind to see dozens of copies in discount bins...

They should have used the lock on cartridge ,allowing you to race on the levels from road rash 2 in 3.. And road rash 2 had better music and the gameplay was a tad better...because you never zoomed by your opponents....there was couple seconds of driving next to them and one hit didn’t drop their speed ......I hated that in rr3.... hitting and combat felt a little more wonky ..it was so nice and simple in 2...

get this game, great game, the difference from this to road rash 1 and 2 is that your racer are always there to fight you, they even slow down soo you can catch them and knock them off there bike!! and there not as easy to knock off. It feel like a different game trust me!!

@ladawg81 PSP has an EA Genesis compilation disc...which is both awesome and dirt cheap. I think GameStop listed it at $2.99. I believe that's less then fifty cents per game.
