The way your shots add to the techno music almost makes me feel this game is like a cross between Space Invaders and REZ... A beautiful mash-up indeed.

Amazing how even after all these years its so satisfying to hit that hovering mother ship on the top of the screen...and so frustrating when you miss it! I still remember seeing this game at the arcades when I was little. First time I saw it was on one of those table top arcade machines.

I wish this was on the PSN. It would be a game I would actually download. I do have a PSP, but I just don't see it being as good on a smaller screen with the PSP controls. This game looks like a total hit for a party :) Plus I love these oldschool games too.

I like how the actual invaders retained their classic look, that simple, pixel look. This one made the game for both new players and vets without insulting either side.

I agree. The DS version alters the sfx every round, and just has better audio in general. Also a less unforgiving Stage 4 boss.

Yeah, but you're missing my entire point... I know Galaga (and a slew of others) originally ripped off Invaders. Not to say it didn't bring on a few unique elements of its own. Now, after all these years, in THIS particular incarnation of Space Invaders, I'm seeing strong influences from the prior competition. Elements that obviously weren't, and couldn't have been, there in the original. I merely found it amusing that the grandfather of this genre would copy the copycats

Awesome doesn't always equal good, you know. Not good in the traditional sense, anyway. Like the Celebrity Deathmatch game, which is technically a shoddy 1-on-1 brawler, but is awesome because you can play as Mr. T and beat up the entire cast of N*Sync. That's a winner.

Actually, Pit Fighter in the arcade was pretty awesome. It is the SNES port that sucks balls and gives the game a bad name. Anyhow, awesome video. I would for sure buy this game if I had any of the consoles that it is on. Seems like they should make a PS3 version.

Taito was an awesome company but I don't know if anything really new comes out under the Taito brand name or if they now exist as nothing more than as a resource pool of IPs for Squenix to exploit now that they own them. I suggest that the least we can do in their honour is start refering to Squenix as Squento ..except they now have Eidos too so they should really be called Squeinito.

cool its funny how more advanced and less apreaciated games are isnt it?. and i asked my mom and she said she used to play space invaders on arcade machines. she i 42 now so she would have been about 4 when it came out so i guess she playd the newer old space invaders :)

That just game is intentionaly trying to make you nervous playing it. Now Raiden Fighters Aces is the premier high end classic arcade shooter for 360. But if taito puts it out on a compilation disc later with some other games I may give it a shot.

I can kind of give you an idea. I can remember my reactions over the years as Space Invaders begat Galaxian, begat Galaga, begat Gaplus, begat Galaga '88 and all the other franchises and single releases, each of which was more graphically stunning and cool to play than the one before. One of the coolest looking games EVER made in the shooter genre was Satan's Hollow. It was in a glowing cabinet like Tron, only red instead of blue. =)

For once I'm proud to be 40. I was 10 when the first Space Invaders showed up at my favorite pinball arcade in 1979 (back then most video games were just a novelty and few were worth playing more than a couple times). I still remember my first couple times playing it and having that last invader land on the bottom of the screen. In the year that followed, video games caught up to pinball and I've played both equally since. This version is INCREDIBLE though, make no mistake!

Thanks. I thought the 1000, 500 credit explanation on xbl looked suspicious. I would have bought asteroids, r-type, space invaders extreme, outrun and others if I didn't think it was trying to rip me off. Plus I think you get more credits for dollars than Uk pounds. I wish I could go and buy these games on dvd elsewhere. I like your point about going to a shop to buy a points card. I was'nt aware of this in the UK.

Yeah didn't think Mark could resist reviewing this one much longer. I am loving the demo. Taito have done an amazing job with a classic. I'm interested in my high score again after so many years. That goes for the R-Type release too. Someone help me with Microsoft credits please. If a game costs 1600 do I pay 2000 or am I billed 1600 credits?

Great review...and I know this would be a little redundant, but you should review the DS version! It might have the high-quality resolution, but the DS version is pretty damn awesome in it's own right, AND you can take it wherever you go!

Galaga Legions is part of the Namco Museum Collection on XBox, and it's freaking wicked. It's probably every bit as good as this remake of Space Invaders. I bought my copy of the game used for $25 in GameStop and it's worth every cent.

Its also on the DS and I believe the PSP. I don't own nor have I played the 360 version but it looks according to the video just like the DS version. Obviously the 360 version has sharper graphics but thats really it.

I dont know why, but the DS version sounds superior to my ears, this game effects sound a little random and the music is dull compared to the portable version, I was looking forward this version

Everyone says 360 is better, but mostly Americans say that. It's because in America, X-box is better for online play. That's what it's all about nowadays. Microsoft rules the US market.

There's a DS and PSP game, as well as a sequel. They're all about the same, but the PSP version seems closer to the 360 version to me. It's a great game, hope the get to play it somehow.

Space Invaders meets REZ.. Cool music and gameplay. It seems that the gameplay (shots, etc.) tries to tie in with the music (like REZ). Awesome :D Great review!

Some of the graphics are straight out of Air Sea Battle on the Atari 2600, it just goes to show that the Atari 2600 still shows its influence : )

Lifelong gamer AND cannabis enthusiast, and yet I only learn of this game's existence today. >_< Oh well, I know about it NOW, I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as much now as I would've six years ago. Actually: I'll probably like it more. I didn't have HD six years ago or nearly as good a sound setup. But this looks really cool, it reminds me a lot of Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar.
