Its a ATLUS game we are talking here, nothing else to be said. ATLUS is nowdays what Squaresoft once was, a reference for good RPGs

I gotta disagree with you there. While the FFXIII series is not the greatest Square has produced, they are sure as hell enjoyable games.
@Angelovizk

So ure saying that Square is still a reference of good RPGs, nowdays? (I said good, not enjoyable. Any game can be enjoyable given the chance) Would u buy a RPG of Square and be sure its gonna be a great RPG, nowdays? Well i wouldnt. I would rather risk a ATLUS game than a Square game, by a lot. Maybe u have ur opinion and ive mines, but for me,Square is not even a shadow of what it once was, and i was a huge fã of them

I3osco Like I said, the games Square produces nowadays are nowhere near the level of what they used to be (Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger etc etc), but they are still good games. JRPG"S were beginning to become stale, using the same formula. Square just mixed things up a bit. I definitely think Square is still a major contender for JRPG's. People really don't give the FFXIII series enough credit. I think most people are just upset about the drastic changes Square brought upon the series. Both Square and Atlus make great games and will continue to do so. Just my own opinion.

You're comparing a publisher to a developer. Atlus doesn't make any of these games, they just sort of localize them in small quantities for a niche english market. Although they usually pick quality JP releases, that doesn't mean that everything they publish is wonderful because often times people approach them to publish their game if no one else will. Since they are willing to do smaller quantities etc. Squaresoft I'm pretty sure also publishes games as well as developing them, but like the simpsons differen't groups often work on different products which means that 2 FF games could be made by entirely different people. But it matters less who's making and more who's in charge of the creative design process. For example Atari was making a DND game for XBLA, they said to the devs they wanted a simple beat em up, no upgrades and no RPG elements or anything like that. The problem was that making a fun game within those perameters is almost impossible, the publisher didn't like how it was recieved by focus groups and they added in some elements of gear progression etc etc. But even with that they ended up with a mediocre game, even the people who work on it admit that. The problem wasn't the team it was the fact that with titles like FF the team is often limited in their creativity. This is why many squaresoft RPGs which are technically FF games got different titles such as Bravely Default. Because they felt that if it didn't have the Final Fantasy title that they would have far more creative freedom not just in terms of art and story direction but even in terms of gameplay. Not only that often times Developers especially smaller one's develop games that aren't even their idea or lisence. For example Disney might ask some random studio to make some random disney game. The worst is when a game switches studios mid production like what happened with fallout 3. Because often the new vision is so different the only usuable part of the first half are sound assets.

CurvesOfFractals They're just different and they have always been trying to innovate and change things and although I'm the first to admit some of the games didn't go as intended. The fact is that they're willing to take risks and to try new ideas. The joke is that you make fun of Cod for releasing the same game every year. But get mad at square for trying to be innovative and then ask then to rerelease old games instead. Oh the irony, you can argue all you want but there's a paralell between remaking old FF games and how CoD is able to rerelease the same game every year to massive sales. Because of people like you who would jump ship and even get angry when they change the formula ever so slightly in a way you don't agree with. You ask for innovation then complain when game companies try new things and don't even try or buy the game looking at their sales. While the new "Shooter" "Action Oriented" Resident Evil games everyone bitches about are the best selling in the series so far. If you want people to make innovative and unique games then you have to buy them and give them a chance. New concepts will take time to perfect and I think that FF has really improved in the last few years with their attempts at making their combat more "real-time". But I'll admit I to was initially very resistant to the idea and I'm still not fully on board with all of the mechanics such as AI controlled Allies in some games. But I'm willing to buy and try them to support future innovation but I'm not so delusional to think my purchases make a difference. I just feel good knowing that I'm willing to give new and potentially bad ideas a chance, and even give bad ideas a chance to be refined. But it's all very subjective, I knew someone who loved the early online FF and early Realtime FF games. While I couldn't stand them. So I can see why they try new things, just because it's not interesting to you doesn't mean there isn't an audience for it. I mean hell people play War Z, or Infestation or whatever they changed their name to inorder to hide from their ghastly metacritic score.

it makes tears form in my eyes to see that these kind of games still exist and are still great... seeing the slow corruption of the gaming market this is just a glimpse of light in the dark tunnel of shameless publishers and bad games.

BEN Plays I feel you. Mobile phones are capable of so much, but they're held back by the market system (i.e. Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, etc.). These successful examples cause developers to focus on shitty games that are designed with little to no plot or passion.

I ran into a snag at an anime convention and sold this, along with some other games...then I read that Hexyz Force is considered a rare game. It's 50+ in the case and everything; less for just the UMD. I slapped myself for that...but sometime after, I got the money for it again and I won't let it go!

Atlus makes wonderful rpgs and games, they produced one of my favorite games of all time tactics ogre the knight of lotus its wonderful, then they make it a bit harder, Atlus is really key on that switch system where the game gets significantly harder, take a look at some of your favorite games youll be suprised that probably one of them is an Atlus. Oh and jsut to add Atlus is amazing at traitor games too where your betrayed.

You raise some valid point's dood Dark souls was very western, it's just a shame about the lack of story, opening cutscene, talk to some people, a few random encounters and then the last boss after all the other last bosses (and by that I mean how difficult most of them are) it looked awesome but I lacked any purpose playing that game. XD

Some of you said, you heard this game is short, why don't you play it for yourself first? I only finished Cecilia's story, and it is already about 15 hours. The replay value isn't as high as expected, but you can bring FP(Force point) over in the New Game+ , so you can upgrade your character's weapon in the other story. Sum it up,it can be about 30 hours. Don't judge a game by some random people's thought. Play it yourselves. From my opinion, this JRPG is way better than most overrated JRPG. And also, the sountrack is beautiful. So its totally worth to play. P/s : I don't see much flaws in this game. The only flaw (my opinion) is Levant's voice acting. He needs hotter, sexier and cooler voice.

There were attacking treasure chests in other games but I just can't seem to remember. Evil chest with tongue, teeth and eyes. Final Fantasy? Star Ocean? Garh!!! But I clearly remember that in Chrono Cross there were evil doors that you can't enter if they have their eyes open. They attack you and lets more enemies to the battle field as the battle takes longer. Awesome stuff!

Hm. Monster Chests are a tradition in RPGs, so I think it's not so bad... and no, by "Monster Chest" I ain't talking about the Sorceress's cup size from Dragon's Crown. I may try this in the future, if it's possible to download it into the Vita, when I get one of those. Thanks for the video.

You can also pause any psp game and resume it later even if your psp dies its saved on the memory card, instead of ram or something. You can pause just about any game, why I say just about is because I haven't tested all of the homebrew games. But it even works for PS one and PS mini games. Although unlike a normal save once you resume your paused session it's deleted so if you die you'll go back to your last save point or however the game handles it. Think of it more like a save state that can only be loaded once, or that your just pausing the game and coming back to it.

Hexyz Force should be classified as a steath game-because you'll avoid the monsters on the map (like CrimsomGemSaga) for they are wastes of SP/stallers. It also throws you a puzzle earlier on that's similar to Riviera's weather forest, which is a nightmare without savestates. Yeah, avoid opening chests at all, one might spell your doom. Ability to fastforward battles by pressing R trigger is neat, though. Better games that I've tried would be Golden Sun 1/2 (GBA) & Criminal Girls (PSP).

"Once a beer is gone it's....lost forever..." XD This is definitely not the first time the "Mimic" has been employed though. Golden Sun is a series that employed Mimics, and yeah they can be blasted hard sometimes(not to mention annoying). @SammEater Well, it's probably a monster that assumed the persona of a treasure chest to decieve passerbys into it's deadly grasps for a quick snack, also hence the name "Mimic".

With you on all counts. I mostly played DS for the atmosphere and challenge. That feeling of sheer hopelessness permeated the whole game. Reminded me of that Zelda 64 Beta creepypasta but with better graphics. DS an exception for me, though. I'm down to almost strictly playing adventure games, text adventures, and recommended RPGs these days because their stories are better. Oh, and DmC was fucking terrible on every count, particularly the plot. DMC 2 was magically awesome after that crap.

Every RPG west of Asia is called a WRPG. This doesn't necessarily mean that all JRPGs are made in Japan or that all WRPGs are made in the wast. Take Dark Souls. While made in Japan, it bears a lot of similarities to western RPGs (character creation, manual stat raises, less focus on story and cutscenes and more on gameplay), and might as well be labelled a WRPG. And labels for types of games are fine. There's a difference between psychological horror and gore horror for example.
