Whoa Nelley, Cadu and it's over for you. Anderson Cadillac was located at 7400 Wayzata Blvd. Minneapolis, MN 55426 and this is now Morrie's Golden Valley Cadillac. Your title says 1972, this is a 1971 model year. We got the VIN, we win: 6 for Cadillac, 8169 for Fleetwood Brougham Sixty Special Brougham four door, 1 for 1971 model year, Q for Clark Street, Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Clark Street facility operated through December 1987. Indeed you did "make it" in 1971 if you had one of these. A rite of passage for many businessmen was to own a Cadillac. It was for my uncle (1981) and my dad (1982) to do so. My other uncle had a Cadillac convertible that he got when it was a few years old. He still regrets selling it, some 60 years later. That clock is right twice a day. LOL. Yes, 472 CID V8. 1972 model year VINs have the engine code (the 5th VIN digit). We got the tag, we can brag: ST71 for 1971 model year, 68169 for Cadillac (6) Fleetwood Sixty Special Brougham (81) four door (69), FWD for Fleetwood Body plant, West End Ave, Detroit, MI with final assembly at Clark Street, Detroit, MI, 052 for White leather interior trim with Black carpet, 90 for Bavarian Blue Firemist lower exterior paint, L for Blue vinyl top, E for Soft Ray Glass (RPO A01), X for Trackmaster rear brake skid control system (RPO JL9), V for six way dual comfort passenger seat (RPO AG2), S is unknown but comes back to a sunroof in some cases (which this vehicle does not have), M for power door locks (RPO AU3), C for cruise control (RPO K30), K for automatic climate control (RPO C61), 1 for AM-FM stereo radio with 8 track tape (RPO UM2), B for lamp monitors RPO YN8), and 06D for the fourth week of June 1971 production. Whoa Nelley, 1971 and it's done. That's it, time to quit. Made in Clark Street and used to be neat. Painted blue and it's over for you. Body by Fleetwood and now it ain't no good. Fleetwood 60 and gotta go. 472 and it's through. Going to be flat and that's that. Trackmaster turned into a disaster. Please don't get squished because all of the Cadillac faithful, perhaps Benny, many here and yup, you guessed it the Google Man are all going to be very, very, very, very, very pissed.

I'm still curious what could be inside and didn't want to damage the decklid

I own a 72 Cpe de Ville. So, I don't claim it's the finest styling point in automotive history, but I've had a lot of classic and stylish cars, and this one shares a thing with my car, and that's at 1:37 plus, and that side marker light in the rear fender that's flush with the fender surface, and yet has the horizontal "bumper" trim piece running right through the middle of it and most of the length of the car's side. It's a very small thing, but was probably one of the best style points of an era where real body style points were receding from view quickly thanks to gas prices. My 72 is pristine, beautiful colors (blues), with only 43K miles on it. Runs like a champ too. Anyway, I love the Caddy styles of this era. the 67s and 68s too. And this little point is just my thing.

That was not Grandpa's car no more l o l. It woke that motor up. I did have it up to a hundred and thirty-seven miles an hour. The ECU bypassed the governor and gave me more power.

Hey Benny! The C-body cars used a larger differential then the B-bodies. I think big-block B-bodies used a larger differential then the 8.5 setup. I know Oldsmobile Ninety-Eights used a 9.3 ring gear for many years for example, our 1966 has the 9.3 rear axle. Cadillac had their own as seen, huge differential, it has a third support bearing on the pinion gear much like the Ford 9-inch rear. Heavy duty for sure. You could get a limited slip differential on these large rear axles. Cadillac, being very dignified gave it a very non-performance sounding title. Rather, they called it 'Controlled Differential'! Too bad the fate which awaits this car. Love the foot rests in the back!
@mikee29238 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what the Caddy rear was. I believe a lot of the B bodies used what was referred to as the MP 78 which was a Pontiac built rear. It was an 8 7/8” ring gear with a 12 bolt carrier with a 10 bolt cover with large scallops. The cover looked like a big 8.2” with a drain plug. They built 3 different versions 65-70, 71-76 and 77-82. Not sure what the difference was between the 65-70 and 71-76 because they both had 31 spline axles while 77-82 were 28. They are sometimes referred to as the GM 8 3/4” to avoid confusion with the traditional muscle car 12 bolt since they were both 8 7/8” 12 bolt rears. Aftermarket support for them is nonexistent. They look strikingly like a Ford 8.8 rear.

Very sad, although 74 is my favorite year Caddie ever made. I used to have a 71 and a 72 limos and would have cried seeing this car. Was extremely saveable .I'd roll a 71-76 Caddie Fleetwood, SDv or CDV in black on black, the vinyl tops ate soo many roofs but these classic caddies looks funky without a vinyl top. This is where all lincolns belong

Wow, what a ride! It could possibly have had an 8 track player, Delco was very good at hiding the tape slot behind the tuning dial on Cadu radios even in the early 70’s. The track changing plunger would’ve been the tuning knob when pushed in if I remember correctly. The 8 track format was at its peak by 1971, cassette technology wasn’t nearly as good and its slower speed and crude tape formulations made 8 track the winner in the portable tape format. Very sad to see a nice Caddy like this in the yard, somebody grab them triple horns!

Shame this one probably won't get saved. Such a great and solid platform for a restoration. Like how the doors had the divider panel that ran clean down from the b-pillar to the bottom.
