1976 Caprice Classic Junkyard Find. She's gone man. This 4 door donk was hurting kinda bad. She was hit on both quarter panels and various dents throughout the body. She also had some rust. The interior wasnt in too bad of shape considering how the exterior looked. under the hood was a mouse, quite possibly a 400 Chevy small block. The transmission was missing however. This one will be parted out for a while and then they'll crush her.

This was the last year for the old girl, I would drop a create motor and trans fix her up and make her a sleeper, until I could find a 1963 Starfire to work on. Thanks for the videos, brings back fond memories!

I could be wrong, but this car has a rare gauge package. Most of these have idiot lights.

The 84 I had didn't have a gauge package, either. I read about it in the car manual, though.

This reminds me of my Caprice Estate Wagon (454-400). White w/the vinyl woodgrain inserts, full power, a/c, cruise. That gauge on the left of the speedo was for "fuel economy" - in my car, the only time that was in the green was when she was idling, lol! This wasn't the muscle car 454, but it could get out its own way when necessary. That's another ride I think of fondly.

Yes, Hudiburg Chevrolet, still there, now an Autonation Chevrolet, located at 7769 Grapevine Hwy Fort Worth, TX, 76180. Autonation bought it in around 2001 according to an online article. Whoa Nelley, as someone else pointed out, rare gauge package as it would typically have had indicator lights instead... Here we go, taking it from the top. Trim tag is ST76 for 1976, 1BN39 for Chevrolet Caprice four door sport sedan, J for Janesville, WI assembly, the rest of the first line is a processing code. 74D should be for red cloth interior, AT3 should be split front bench seat, 11L and 11U are for white exterior paint, so it was either painted at one time or it just faded, looks like 05D which would be the fourth week of May 1976 production. VIN is 1 for Chevrolet, N for Caprice, 39 for four door sport sedan, U for Chevrolet small block 400 V8 with 4 barrel , 6 for 1976 model year, J for Janesville, WI production, and the rest is the production sequence. You gotta sift through those sockets and tools and pick out the good ones. They can be easily cleaned up in some vinegar. I do it all the time.

Those "5 mph crash bumpers", had been mandatory since 1973. Might be ok for minor parking lot bumps, but way more expensive to fix if you have any more of a jolt.

Is it not so good to get the door panels? Even if they're messed up, they could be a decent template for someone with a 3D Printer. I've seen one of these (though it was a Wagon) and it was missing the right front door panel.

I hesitate to grab things from that yard. They dont have set prices. Prices can be all over the board there. And now they are putting some of the classics in the "special yard". Special= more 💰. As far as the ROI(return on investment) let's say they are both in good shape. I got both for $50 and I wanna sell them for $200(I really think they would want $75-100 though for both). They aren't even going for that much on eBay. $150 is probably where they would sell. That leaves me $100. It takes time to clean them up, take good pics, and list them. EBay takes $15 for final value fees and unless i offer free shipping, they hit me up for a 10% shipping fee. Shipping prices vary but it could be another $4 or 5 there. PayPal hits me up for another 2% and then i have my time looking for a shipping box and packing material(plus time packing and taking to USPS or FedEx. I might clear $75. That's not worth it to me. Now if they were small easy to pack and ship items, I paid $10 for them, then yes it would be worth it. Or if they were selling for at least $300 or more then I would consider them. And that's only if they are in really nice shape. Of course if I sell them locally it would be a better deal. If they are still there when I go back I'll ask for the price.
