Sutch an amazing book haul , the children are so lucky!^^ I personally loved the redwall series when I was a kid and read it the first time when i was 11. It can be very dark though, with war and characters dying so I would recommend to read it before hand, the same with Pinocchio (depends which edition it is) beacuse the horrible things that happens to him. Your students have alot to pick from and Im sure they will love to have a library in their classroom ^^

Warrior Cats got me hooked on reading as a kid so this was exciting to see. I wish the series hadn't been milked as long as it has been but man this brought back memories.

Goosebumps are great for "horror", Puppy Place, anything with fairies are popular, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Wish you must read!, graphic novels, MineCraft for sure, Out of My Mind you must read!, I also highly suggest the One and Only Ivan to read and use as a read-aloud...have fun with your classroom bookshelf (it will grow and change as you get to know your kiddos) :0) First Day Jitters is a fun book to read out loud...your library may have that one available to check out. Also, StorylineOnline is a great website for students to listen to stories read to them by actors/actresses.

I love this video! I am a special education teacher too (currently self-contained pre-k, but I used to teach K-3 Self contained autism). As a child I was a huge reader (still am), but most of my students aren't interested in the books I used to love because many of them have reading & attention disabilities in addition to their autism. However, they do enjoy being read aloud to. I found that my third grade boys were most motivated to independently read graphic novels like captain underpants and plants vs. zombies. They also really like books based on movies/popular media like star wars, minecraft, etc. Not the most classic literature... but whatever works lol (I also tried playing minecraft as a means to relate to my students!). I also found that purchasing books based on my student's particular interest was HUGE. I had one student who loved dogs and really wanted to read old yeller after he saw it on my shelf. This student was not a fluent reader, but he took the book everywhere with him and pointed out the sight words he was working on. I had another student who was very interested in extreme weather. I bought some books on extreme weather and he read them over and over. When the school year begins, you can ask the students about their interests. If they later see that you have brought in books that are special to them, it makes a huge impact on your relationship with them and motivates them to read! You will be a wonderful teacher Kate!

Roald Dahl was definitely up there with my favs being The Twits, Revolting Rhymes, Dirty Beasts and The Giraffe the Pelly and Me. I also read Harry the Poisonous Centipede and a few of the Horrible Histories which were fun and yet factual. X

Goodness those kids are stacked!! You’ve got a more prepared library than I ever had as a kid, so hopefully they’ll enjoy that selection!! My personal favorite book I read over and over growing up was A Dog’s Life: The Autobiography of a Stray by Ann M. Martin, it was sad but it strengthened my love for animals even more! Also that box set of warrior cats books launched me back to elementary school when I read the first couple over and over cause I never got to read the full series 😂

Oh my goodness, I've never heard anyone else mention my childhood favorite A Dog's Life: The Autobiography of a Stray, how exciting! I know you have great taste in books haha!! Any chance I had to renew it or re-check it out from the library I would. It's definitely a comfort read of mine these days

The Warriors series is what got me into reading. I remember being so sad the series was over when I finished the first 6 because I thought that was in the end and got so excited when the first book in the next series was on my library's new arrivals table. I've been reading about one series a year and am now ahead of where I left off when I was younger. Now I'm at the point where some of the original characters are dying and it's sad. Prequel series was kinda odd though.

I know it’s not your usual content but I wrote down several of these because they sounded great for my kids. I like to have diverse books for them to read. If Red Thread is the one written by Grace Lin then it’s about adoption, which is great to see made available to kids.

Love it! I got some ideas for my kids too. My experience from volunteering at a school library is kids really love graphic novels. Amulet was the most popular followed by the Smile series and the Babysitter Club graphic novels. My daughter has sensory issues especially 4th grade. She liked to do coloring pages to calm down.
