Notes
Authoritarian teaching style is when the teacher has full control over the students in the classroom. The teacher is the final authority in matters of discipline or grading. The students are expected to follow strict rules and guidelines set by the teacher. The authoritarian teaching style usually involves lectures, drills, and rigorous testing, which leaves little room for creativity, exploration, or critical thinking.
Authoritative teaching style, on the other hand, is more democratic than authoritarian. The authoritative teacher encourages student participation and collaboration, providing guidance and feedback on student work. The teacher is still the authority figure in the classroom, but they share responsibility with their students. The authoritative teaching style focuses on creating a positive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and exploration.
The permissive indulgent teaching style is the opposite of authoritarian. In this teaching style, the teacher takes a hands-off approach, letting the students take control of their own learning. The teacher may use a laissez-faire teaching style, which means they don't interfere with how the students learn or what they learn. While this type of teaching style may sound ideal, it often results in chaotic classrooms, where students aren't motivated, and learning doesn't occur.
The authoritarian teaching style may be effective in some situations, including those where the need for structure is high or when students may struggle with discipline or motivation. However, this teaching style can stifle creativity and critical thinking, which are critical for success in society. Students who are exposed to authoritative teaching style are likely to be more motivated, show more initiative, and participate in the classroom confidently.
Permissive indulgent teaching styles may work well in situations where students are self-motivated and take responsibility for their own learning. Still, this type of teaching may not be suitable for all students. Teachers must balance the need for structure in the classroom while keeping creativity and critical thinking at the forefront of their teaching.
In conclusion, teaching styles play a significant role in how students learn and develop, and authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive indulgent styles are all unique in their approach to teaching. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, and teachers must assess what works best for their students based on the individual needs and strengths of the students. Ultimately, the key is to find a balance that promotes collaboration, motivation, and creativity in the classroom.
