We had mailboxes in our room. Spreading them into two sections across the room or a little farther away from each other is something we did because a lot of kids would get trampled when we went to our mailboxes. It was mainly the boys who ran to them and then the stampede would come and they would regret it. In the fourth grade we split them up by having two mailboxes, 1-14 and 15-32. It helped to slow us down and keep the injuries to a minimum.

I'm having anxiety and excited at the same time watching this video. I will be teaching 4th grade at a new school this year. I'm going in tomorrow to see the classroom. Hopefully I can start moving in my stuff Wednesday. Then bring the rest Thursday and clean. My online order of bulletin board supplies should be here next Tuesday. Then I can start setting up. Preplanning week is August 6th, but for my sanity need to have most of the room done before then.

As a teacher from the Netherlands i am baffled by how many books US teachers have in their classrooms! We have books per subject (like math, Dutch language, Spelling etc) for each child with workbooks and usually at least 1 book per child for free reading (so stories). Also we generally have way smaller classrooms and try to keep the decor to a minimum as to provide a calm learning environment. I guess the educational systems are very different anyway! Good job on all the hard work. Greetings from the Netherlands!

Using the T hand sing in ASL and rotating your hand is the sign we used for Toilet when I was younger. Instead of raising our hands and interrupting the teacher we would just make the sign when she looked at us and then we could go to the restroom. It worked fairly well for us, but it's different for each class.

I watched a video were u had the name tags on your mail box off to the side of each space. If u use command clips (huge clips with like silver handles on them that fold back and forth) out a piece of tape or vinyl and u can add each child's name but.infront of each cubby space ( just a thought) 😀
