Omg, my sons school did the mask face drawing at the bugging of the school year in August. It’s such a cute project. My sons school here in Southern California went back March 30th. I wish our district did the same as you. Our hybrid is 4 days a week, 3 hours a day. Monday is virtual. There is an am and a pm for each class. There are 9 kids in my sons am class and 10 in the pm. 8:15-11:15 for am then an hour break then the pm kids go 12:15-3:15. There are just as many desks because they don’t want the kids sharing a desk so instead of spaces between the desks, there are desks lol (still plenty of space though between the desks) each kid has their own supplies in their own box. They will be bringing home everything at the end of the year, including their boxes because they don’t want any sharing at all. Back packs stay outside. Nothing comes in the classroom other than the kids. Recess is just snack, no playing. They sit at a table, 6 feet apart and when they are don’t with snack, they go back to class, wash their hands and get hand sanitizer. As with all, masks are mandatory. We have a daily health screening we have to fill out every morning before we take our kids to school. We can walk our kids to the gate but that’s it. We also can meet them at the gate after school. They stay in the same room the entire 3 hours except for snack. Kids in RSP or speech have their sessions at a table in the back of the room. 1 kid at a time. There is a plexiglass glass divider on that table so the kids and the teacher are separated. For speech, the kids wear the face shields. There is no virtual at all for the hybrid kids other than the Monday meeting and independent work. The kids whom are virtual have a different teacher. The ones who decided to stay virtual went to a different teacher once the hybrid went back (only reason my son went hybrid, seems kind of ridiculous to have the kids change teachers with only 7 weeks left of our school year (we get out May 21st) 4 of the kids in my sons class stayed virtual and now have a new teacher and 3 kids that were with the virtual teachers are now in my sons class....talk about confusing lol) we ent by another school (it was a private school) before my son went back and the kids were all playing together on the playground. I now feel bad for my son since they just sit. Glad you guys get to have fun. Hope your first week back was amazing :)

I hope you had a great first day back. :) I'm in Florida ..... We've been face to face since August. I have 20 second graders in my regular sized classroom. They are not even 3 feet apart. HOWEVER, they are 100% masked, except for lunch which is in the lunchroom and I don't have lunchroom duty. Even at recess and PE they wear masks (we just have too many kids). We do offer online, but the number is small -- maybe 30% of our school? In second grade we have 8 teachers and 7 have face to face kids. Even our online kids follow the same schedule so those kids are online with a teacher from 8:45 - 3:00. Good news is we haven't had much (if any) transmission in our school. We have had cases in school (caught covid outside of school) but it doesn't seem to be spreading in school.

So crazy!!!! We started in CT on hybrid with half of our classes every other week until October and then we started in person... I have 22 kiddos in person 5 days a week since October with 5 feet of distance between desks. I’m so lucky to have a school district where we have an online learning school. When we had hybrid we went to school until 2:00 and had an hour for our online school. I hope you’re feeling okay with baby on the way!!!!

I have been teaching in NY- grade 2, 5 days a week all day, all year with 6ft socially distant and masked kids I have 15 kids. We have ZERO online learning unless students signed up for 100% virtual. It's been GREAT. No student to student spread. It's possible and safe. I see 15 kids all day every day. It's great. No rug for gathering, no small groups. Kids are NOT giving to each other in school. All virus spread- which has been super minimal is due to the adults in the building or homes.
@chloe_3787
@chloe_3787 3 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t work everywhere. I am a high school senior in PA and have been hybrid since the beginning of the year. With our model, we are able to be six feet, and no spread has taken place in the buildings. However, if we were to return fully, some classes would not even be able to fit students 3ft apart. My district has been *phenomenal* and our teachers are happy too. We just had a big board meeting to talk about fully reopening (we’re not) and so much evidence was presented that “learning loss” is not actually occurring and mental health is not declining.
@TheCalvinMarshall
@TheCalvinMarshall 3 жыл бұрын
@@chloe_3787 our HS is the same way. I’m talking our elementary school. We can fit all the student who opted to return to in person. 30% of elementary school children chose the all virtual option we gave them, making more space for those who chose all in person. Parents had a choice. Teachers are either teaching all in person OR all virtual never both in elementary. HS and MS are hybrid.
@chloe_3787
@chloe_3787 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheCalvinMarshall that’s awesome! Our families also had a choice. And elementary teachers are either in person or virtual, not both. I think it works well for them. However, still, our elementary classrooms just do not have enough floor space to fit everyone. Some classes would still have 20-25 kids, and at max, they can fit like 18 in a room. Luckily, hybrid is working even better than anticipated as far as routines and learning go.

interesting in your state you can teach all the way to 6th grade in ours 6th grade teachers have to be for 4th through 8th only. i taught for 4 years before i started staying home with my kids and i taught ela and social studies to 4th graders. it was always interesting because my team teacher had been teaching for nearly 30 years and had been my 4th grade teacher when i had attended the same school. our school was tiny and had only 2 teachers per grade.

In my city if you're pregnant you get an accommodation to work remotely for the school year. It has been a huge relief for me since I'm currently pregnant. You seem enthusiastic about going back so it doesn't seem like you would be interested, but since pregnancy is considered high risk for Covid, I wonder if your district would accommodate you being that there are no clear recommendations for pregnant women in regards to the vaccine?
