CLASSROOM SETUP FAILS! | Made For Second Grade

Sometimes things just do not work out as planned! In today's video, I attempt a couple of fun classroom projects that definitely don't get finished, as well as haul some classroom purchases from Target, Walmart, Michaels, and show off some new books!

Don't be afraid to peel and re-stick the contact paper. I did my counters in my classroom and had to do a little at a time and work in sections. It's a bit of a slow process but smoothing it out little by little as you go will work.

Take an exacto knife or needle and poke a tiny hole in the big bubbles-then squish out the air. It makes a big difference!

Aww I wanted to jump through the screen and help you with the contact paper. And I kept saying, "Don't pull all the backing off yet!" You are adorable. Yes... it looks great but we as teachers can't settle when things have that imperfection... our eyes are just drawn to it.

I love how you showed the real side of classroom setup. Not all classroom projects are super easy or turn out perfectly the first time. We only get 4 days before school starts to set up our classrooms, but we are expected to have meetings and sometimes we have to do PD too during those days too. 🙄 Your hair at the beginning of this vlog looks gorgeous btw!

LOL okay watched this yesterday but had to come back to comment. I was rolllllllling when you were talking about the contact paper because I tried to use it and it did the same thing. 😳 A bunch of people told me to use a Cricut smoother though and I'm pretty sure I have a couple of them if you'd like to borrow one!! My mom and I are going to redo mine on Wednesday. It actually looks so good on your desk though! I feel like you can't really tell unless you're close.

Just an idea and I am not sure if it will work. I would try to cut the wallpaper stuff a few times and just line it up on the desk... might be easier when you have less to work with and use a credit card to smooth out bubbles as you put it on.

I covered two closet doors in my room with wallpaper. Roll the paper out about 4 inches, then use binder clips to hold the sides. Unwrap the paper as you go, smoothing it down across before you unroll more :) mine didn't have any wrinkles! I hope I may be able to help someone! Also, I think yours looks fine since it's patterned!

When I use contact paper, I take the back off as I’m going to try to prevent bubbles and make it straighter. I used contact paper for bulletin boards this year because my classroom didn’t have any!

That sticky stuff is so hard!!! I would use the other one, leave the sticker paper on the back, and just stick it with like painter's tape or whatever

I use that sticky back paper(yours was dotted) in my homeschool class room. I don't remove the stick back. I ran into the same problem as you. I just use a few drops of hot glue here and there. But yours looked pretty good girl. I'm impressed you got it look that good.

For the sticky paper on the desk I wonder if doing what we do for iPad screens works?? Use painters tape on top of the edge, SLOWLY remove the backing and as you go use a ruler to remove bubbles. I don’t know if I’m explaining my idea correctly 💡

I HATE contact paper! It never comes out the way I want either 😂 in my latest video, I decorated the front of my desk. I just used bulletin board paper and double sided tape! It worked well for me!

I know that stress. My first year I was hired 5 days before kids started-- 2 of those were the weekend (and we weren't allowed in the building) and a half day of meetings. My advice would be to do as much at home as you can and make a prioritized list of what you need to do when you get in there. If you have to wait until you're in school to print and laminate, maybe cut it out at home. Basically anything you can do at home do it, so that time in the classroom is well spent. You've got this-- just breathe! It does not need to be Pinterest- worthy!

@@FrancheskaBL That's a good way to approach it. The kids will remember how you make them feel more than the decor. That's not to say a beautiful room isn't a goal eventually, but it can happen over time. I hope you have a wonderful year!
