I first thought about the kitchen being better on first floor as well but if anyone follows feng shui like I do the kitchen upstairs works well in this particular design. That's because you don't want the bedroom to be right above the kitchen (you can google why exactly for more detail). Also, when you cook, all the smells go up towards the ceiling and would make both bedrooms get stagnant smells every time you cook, especially with an open loft-type second floor unless there's a kitchen door you can close. With the kitchen being upstairs would eliminate some of this and you can open the window while you cook to help prevent the whole house being as smelly. This might not be important for most people but it's just my opinion about the extra benefit. With that said, I love this design!
@ixoraroxi Жыл бұрын
Imagine bringing supplies and groceries 😩!? Or having snacks, drinks, and movie nights ?:) Obviously, it's a kitchen for someone who doesn't like to cook, wants to stay fit, and runs on protein shakes and coffee. A nice airflow, a proper ventilation system, and a ceiling beam between the kitchen and the rest of the house will deal with the problem.
@marylee2732 Жыл бұрын
As a Korean I appreciate the kitchen upstairs so all the smells can leave the house ASAP instead of floating on the first floor then moving up and out.
@CS-ru4xd Жыл бұрын
But having the kitchen up in the loft also limits area for guests. At least if it's on the ground level, guests can spread out a little bit without having some upstairs and some down, If you're into entertaining. Plus , as others have said, with proper ventilation this wouldn't be so much of a drawback. And I would leave the bedrooms as they are and make the loft above the kitchen the living/ entertainment room. Oh yea...and having to lug groceries and supplies or having to take garbage down could be inconvenient instead of straight in and out of the ground level doors. Just my opinion.
@margaritas4606 Жыл бұрын
All true. It just comes to individual's needs and lifestyle so it's not for everyone. I just referenced Feng Shui in this particular design which works here according to feng shui do's and dont's in case others follow like I do, that's all.
@jb6712 Жыл бұрын
(Useless) "feng shui" aside, those stairs are a fall waiting to happen, especially if a guest has had a bit too much alcohol---and someone inevitably does---and would result in any number of devastating injuries. As they're shown here, with no kind of runner, just bare, hard, slippery surface, they're also a potential lawsuit when said drunk guest takes that long tumble.

I would have put the kitchen downstairs and the living room upstairs. I really appreciate the washing machine corner, very well placed. However I actually prefer having an interior room for the washer and dryer. I understand that you are from the Philippines, but you have an audience from all over the world. Some of us live in the cold weather with snow, so having this room inside the house is a must. Also, would you mind adding a bathtub? I'm a fan of your work, and I always look forward to seeing your new creations. Hope you don't mind my suggestions

Hey Devine, Have a look at C.A.S.S tiny homes in Detroit ( not sure about the punctuation ). A program set up by a minister that gives vets, homeless & low income earners the opportunity to buy architecturally designed tiny homes. While they might not be of this sublime standard they are awesome nonetheless. It is an outstanding program that is a credit to all involved and should be looked at by any & all councils and town officials for their struggling constituents. 🇦🇺

Anything over std 1 bed flat sqftage shouldn't be considered tiny. My 2 bed, 2 bathroom flat is 460sqft, that is not tiny. The house shown isn't even a small house, it's bigger than the one I moved to my flat from! and that was a larger than std modern 2 bed terrace (simply cos it had 2 double bedrooms due to having an arch room).

Always fun to see what you come up with next! The kitchen again is wonderfully spacious, something I appreciate as someone who loves to entertain. One thing that did strike me was that having the kitchen on the second floor would ensure that one got in a certain number of steps per day. Haha. As always, I love your choice of colors and the way you furnish and decorate your houses...lovely and restful. I do have a request. A cupboard for storing tall things like a broom or carpet sweeper as well as cleaning supplies. Perhaps it could be located near the washing machine? Out of sight but close at hand. Anyway, watching what you come up with each week is always a highlight of my week. It reminds me of the prayer Jews say on seeing a rainbow or something else of beauty. "Thank you, G-d, for sustaining me and allowing me to live to see this day." Thank you, Rassel, for bringing dreams and beauty into our lives.

Beautiful house. The only improvements I would suggest is that the door that opens to the back of the house should be relocated from the living room to the washer area so that after washing, you can conveniently hang the cloths outside. Wow. You managed drama in 517 sq. ft., and careful consideration for finishes and lighting on the “fifth wall”, the ceiling, which makes the eye appreciate the vaulted spaces, and expands the visuals in the smaller spaces. The shared two story space makes the home feel much larger inside. A two story is cheaper to build and maintain than a one story, and fits well on a smaller lot, expanding the outdoor space as well.
