This is absolutely astonishing music sung with extraordinary beauty and feeling. I hadn't discovered the Monteverdi madrigals until I heard this and am now blown away The last madrigal in the book Canta'i un tempo (1'03") is the most exquisite beauty ever in secular music Wow

I recognize some of these singers from Les Artes Florissants. I'm glad to be coming to know their names, such as Maud Gnidzaz.

Listening to the madrigals in reverse order (starting with Book VIII) I'm struck by the innovations even in the early books.

Is she named after the character in William Dean Howells great realist novel, a Modern Instance?
