The quality of this video is astounding. There are professionally made and produced educational videos out there that are not half as good as this. I'm so glad my desire to woodshed rhythm skills (I play guitar primarially) led me here.

This is such a beautiful, detailed and professional insight into an instrument that could be ignored but very important in keep musical time especially in the African traditional music. Thanks for sharing so much about the clave and its application, so detailed content there. Kudos.

Thank you for the comment! I remember being yelled at while playing out of Clave once. It such a subtle instrument and quite unique as you rightly said. Your encouragement is an inspiration for more videos. Gracias!

Those days, we used to laugh at the babas when they play this small instrument but today, I have got an eye opener to see the rudiment😁😁

Thanks sir, the concept behind the Claves is quite interesting because they are often ignored and sometimes not recognized as an instrument but once the player of the Clave is off count everyone notices

@@tosinpamilerin That is so true ! It's a bit like the tambourine. They cut through the most dense of instrumental sounds and if the player is out of beat, they will just throw everyone else off because our ear naturally follows percussion and voice and the louder the percussion or voice, the more we latch onto it. So whoever is going to play claves or tambourines better have an impeccable sense of time and rhythm !

@grimtraveller : You are on point with this - succinctly stated!. One of the reasons why our first set of videos are focused on building the foundation in rhythms with percussions like the Claves, Cowbell, Shekere and Tambourines is that these underrated instruments form the ensemble, and they usually play at the background. Therefore if anyone could play the Claves, Cowbells or any percussion instrument without going off beat, be rest assured they would play other I instruments well... thanks for atching the video and for posting the comment- remain blessed!

My question is it is possible to play a song on claves?
@tosinpamilerin3 жыл бұрын
You could play a song on the claves but it would be difficult for anyone listening to tell what song you played. This is because songs are usually played on a chromatic scale (musical notes) on instruments like the Piano, Saxophone and others that could run the music scale conveniently. We easily identify the song/music when we listen to tune played by such instruments. The Claves however produce monotonous sounds/clicks when struck and incapable of running a music scale. They are however perfect for building the rhythm of the song in terms of timing (4/4, 3/4, 6/8... etc). So, you could sing/listen to a song and play the Claves along to create a regular song pattern. Thanks for asking the question though, I haven't actually thought about it before now. And thanks for watching our videos, stay blessed.
