The real reason why Howleen's hair was pink was because it wasn't girly enough and not because they wanted to whitewash her.

Actually, it was because they thought little girls didn’t like to play with short curly hair, which in itself is texturism. That’s why we’ve only got like 2-3 characters with not straight/wavy hair. It may not be as racist as lightening clawdeens skin, but it’s definitely a form of racism and whitewashing.

Im mixed afro latino myself and I wont mind clawdeen being afro latina if they didnt make her biracial, its a racist trend of taking any monoracial Black girl in media and make her biracial & lightskinned instead , i hate how ppl harrass any monoracial Black ppl who critique this by claiming they think biracial folk arent “Black enough” when thats not the issue-the issue is they instantly made clawdeen biracial & even lightskinned the mintue she becomes the main character and shes the only one to have that chsnge aside from draculaura, all the other white characters stayed monoracial white *to note; latine isnt a race, its an enthicity , you can be monoracial Black & latine Clawdeen however is very obiviously mixed her bio refers to her as “a biracial human” its obv her mom is mestiza just a brown skinned mestiza

Thank you for saying this!! This definitely happens a lot in the media. For example, in the Hate U Give book, the main character is a monoracial black girl with dark skin. However, the actor in the movie is biracial, and she is light skin in the movie. Which is crazy when her friends are all darkskin. Even though I'm lightskin I found it weird how they changed her when she became the main character.

@@ningmushii im lightskinned too & it felt colorist af to me , esp when they had no issue making bloodgoon, the minor a-hole character, darkskinned n be played by a darkskinned woman in the movie & play i remeber white ppl keepet fighting w me over clawdeen being biracial now too constantly saying latine is an enthicity(as if i wont know that) even trying to claim the only reason shes refered to as biracial is cus of her being half werewolf which..dude do u hear yourself lmao

So, i'd like to add some things on this video: - Clawdeen wasn't the only character to change the skintone in the freak du chic line, she and Twyla both had the skin changed to more light and gray bc they're target exclusive, tho clawdeen could have gotten a darker gray but instead they put a similar tone as they one they put on Twyla - the poli issue is actually fixed in newer releases, currently the only dolls that are released with poli hair are budget lines and skulltumate secrets lines(bc the focus is the reveal gimmick), even some of the previous dolls that were released with poli are getting saran variants - Deuce and Clawdeen arent a couple in the show, Deuce is implied to be aroace and they're leaning towards Toralei as Clawdeen's love interests, the same way a G1 comic book made them girlfriends - G3 thorough time is actually improving a lot with style, and quality in general, i'd recomend you to check newer lines like monster fest and core refresh, they're amongst the best monster high lines in all generations. Specially clawdeen who is in the newer releases is getting a less childish screening and is also getting darker browns and purples in the hair. I defend G3 that much bc i see a lot of positive things that people seems to dont notice like 1)currently monster high G3 dolls, even tho they're playline, have a better quality than most of skullector, and 2)many of G1 lines were just every single character in a tube dress, and i see in G3 they're trying to avoid it and i appreciate.

Ohhh I see thank you for commenting, this is very helpful info :) I’m glad the quality of the dolls is improving! I have a few g3 dolls and they’re very detailed and well done, so don’t get me wrong I think the dolls are gorgeous but its the designing and clothing that I don’t like, I prefer the dark monstery vibe that g1 had, but thats my personal bias. I love Clawdeen and Toralei😍 I’m really glad they didn’t continue the storyline between her and Deuce from the live action. Regarding the Freak Du Chic line, the issue is that Twylas change is very subtle and stylistic, whereas changing Clawdeen’s skin from brown to pale gray is a bit more questionable. But I see what you’re saying! :) thank you for all the info!! 💕

Girlie… clawdeen was very much so into men in g1, just not boy crazy lmfao. G3 clawdeen (in the show rule book for s1 and scrapped s2 rule book) is lesbian. It’s theorised that clawdeen was supposed to get with toralei like the recent pride g1 comics

I remember seeing, that G1 Howleen liked changing her hair, so I personally think that Mattel should’ve made that part of her character, so after a couple releases with long straight pink hair, they could’ve given her blue box braids, then maybe purple goddess locs, and then a red Afro, it could’ve made her more interesting than sticking to straight pink hair, and they could’ve used Howleen as a test subject to test out different black hairstyles.

Also wolves actually dont have slit pupils! Their eyes are no different then dogs (aka-thrir pupils are circular) only cats have slit pupil , so rlly g1 clawdeen had much more wolf like eyes then g3 clawdeen Also im glad u hate the blonde hair too cus i hate it sm too 😭 it bugs me that cleo n clawdeen had their hair color changed to be lighter while drac , lagoona & frankie basically keepet the same hair color Honestly the way i describe the fashion w g3 clawdeen vs g1 is- in g1 clawdeen had fur & animal print bcus it was popular w her fashion inspo (y2k granted she also has some punk inspo too) it also fit w her bein a werewolf G3 clawdeen wears fur & animal print bcus shes clawdeen

I guess the slit eyes help her look more spooky looking but it’s kinda lame now that I know that isn’t accurate .😭 shocked that the design team didn’t catch that/care about that. yeah I hate the blonde its not helping her case at all.. brown wouldve been better and help her look way more wolfy. :/ ty for all the clarifications!

As I black person I do agree but as a monster fan there's 3 or two types of werewolves natural born and the bitten which monster high as never brought also the pick on humans but werewolves and werecats are half human or can take human or half human form and I wish the could transform in wolfs and tigers or any type of big cat

I think they should have kept Clawdeen G3 more like she was and then take one of the many white/white coded dolls and changed their race or made biracial so we can more representation. I think that would have been cool way to do it for G3. Like there was no much that could have been done with G3 in terms of giving more diversity within the main doll set. There has not been a single G3 Clawdeen that has excited me and I hate what it going on with her hair. It is not enough to just say this character is going to be representative of X if they don't actually give that representation. Like if Clawdeen is meant to be Afro-latina ok then why not make her snacks a play on snacks that someone who grew up in a household like that would have, have her hair styles reflect that that, her clothing reflect the fashions and trends of the community she grew up. Because you do reflect your community, your culture, your heritage etc in what you wear, in what eat, in how you speak, and more generally speaking. Also I loved EAH and I wish that we could get them back too. Especially since they had some really cool dolls like the ones that had texture to them such as Cedar Wood and a lot of their fashion (and shoes) were gorgeous.
