OBJECTION! apple is actually shown to be incredibly smart (in science, math, governing, debate, etc), as well as very no-nonsense and strategic. while she is kind and peppy, a lot of it is just her "princess" damsel-in-distress persona that she puts up (bc mommy issues) :)

Exactly what I was going to say! Her coding skills are top notch and she is incredibly intelligent (at least in the books, which I enjoyed much more than the tv shows because of the depth of character they had) - Apple just can't even conceive why Raven is opposed to following their destiny. She's certain she's right and knows what's best for everyone, and yeah, totally selfish about it in the beginning, but I love how he character develops in the books.

I feel like the rebel’s would be allowed to not follow dress code because their literally encouraged to break the rules, and even if raven isn’t evil, she likes being crafty/artsy (as said in an episode I forgot) so I feel she’d still just wear whatever she wants Also apple is the most loved by the school and she’s basically the leader, so everything she does is just allowed, so if she wants to be as fancy as possible, she’d be allowed to, (or she’d just say “ugh these uniforms are so boring, let’s not have a dress code” and everyone would cheer)

I would agree with your comment if you said VILLAINS not REBELS were allowed to disregard the dress code. Grimm would love to stamp out the rebel movement if he could, so if it were Rebels, he'd force them to conform to the dress code as tightly as possible, just like he wants them to adhere to their stories.

Honestly the designs never really bugged me, though your redesigns are interesting. I also really like the bow on Apple, but I will say I dont 100% agree on the comment about the crown she wore originally and how she "doesnt need to show shes a princess". Yes the other characters are technically Princes and Princesses, however Apple is THE Princess. Snow White is the one that is actually Queen of the kingdom. This further plays into why Apple is the way she is. She states several times how she is the future ruler, and as you said she's always been given everything she wants and everyone loves her. I always felt the crown kinda fit well with that whole mentality and part of her character, and the reason why she was specifically the one who wore it and not the others. She is also the leader of the "Royal" group as opposed to Raven being the leader of the "Rebels", so I think it even further shows how tied to that idea and life she is and how much she believes it. But thats just my opinion.

@@inkiio fair enough. like i said was just my opinion on why she had it. i do also enjoy the bow, especially since her Mom is Snow White and the version people would typically think of is the Disney one..where she wore a red bow. So the bow is a cute nod to her mom in that regard. Also, Since she doesnt have Snow White's black hair (though she does have the "blood red" lips and the "Snow white" skin) which is interesting since like 'Descendants' they only ever really mention the one parent and we never really see the other, all we know about her father is that hes 'one of the charmings' and that he must be blond since she is (unrelated really i know was just a note i always thought interesting, since most of these types of shows tend to make the kids just smaller versions of their parent)

I love absolutely everything however, I feel like the warmer tones in Raven’s outfit are integral elements to her design. It’s almost like a way of her rebelling against her mother by being more warm and not wanting to follow her destiny.

I feel like the bright colors in raven’s design and dark colors in apples says something about them. Everyone sees raven as evil but she’s not, and everyone sees apples as perfect but she’s low key kinda a jerk. For Apple there's also the fact that she's supposed to be Snow White. So her dress has those colors because you know, white as snow, red as blood, black as ebony. She's canonically insecure about being blonde instead of having black hair like Snow White should, so she incorporates black elements to her clothes. I think the original color palette is an important part of her design and her character

I think my biggest criticism of Ravens design is the feather motif; raven canonically hates feathers because they remind her of her mom and she desperately wants people to not associate them. In the books, it’s shown the evil queen is abusive, and she’s also shown in a giant feather cape. I do like that you made Raven preppy bc of that though; I like the idea Raven liked goth fashion but doesn’t want people to think she’s like her mom so she dresses preppy. I would also say Apple is more than a little self centered; Raven following her destiny would result in her homeless and in jail, outcast from her friends, and Apples response is “oh well! I want my destiny! That’s your problem!”. We know WHY; apples mom is also abusive in a different way than ravens but still. That doesn’t excuse her actions though; freeing the Evil Queen as a last resort to get her destiny KNOWING how bad and dangerous she is, and how badly that’ll impact Raven, and still doing it because “I WAS PROMISED MY DESTINY” is incredibly selfish.

I had the biggest, fattest crush on Darling Charming when I was younger and still thought I was into boys throughout it. Anyway, I do really like your redesigns, while I personally would’ve made Apple more flashy, her having a more simple and clean kind of outfit makes sense for her perfect girl persona. I like Raven’s design as well, I’m pretty sure she had a whole thing during the first few episodes of not wanting to stand out (if I’m remembering correctly) and so following a dress-code with only a few alterations like the green gem accessories is a really good way to incorporate that! I’d really love to see more ever after high redesigns, your artstyle is so scrumptious (please draw darling if you do more, please please please- omg sorry I was possessed for a second, ignore that, do what you want when you want)

She is however woken up by his younger sister Darling. Unfortunately, it was glossed over as "CPR" (cuz CPR totally breaks curses XD) and was never really mentioned again as the only movie after that was "Epic Winter" then it was cancelled. However, the creators have since confirmed that yes they were intended to be gay. I believe it was also implied in one of the books or diaries too but i could be misremembering that bit

On Raven's eye color, the potion the Evil Queen in Snow White used to transform herself was green! So I feel that's a good unintentional call back to the source materials for their parents as well! Love the designs as always!!

Raven’s original design looks a lot more like she’d be Maleficent’s daughter than the evil queens.? To me at least, because I’ve always seen the evil queen more…blue, than purple? But that could just be me. Your design definitely looks *more* like the evil queen with the toned down purple, though

@ I know that, I never said they do, but Ive not seen many other other visual depictions, so I’m just saying I’ve only ever seen the evil queen in more bluish clothes, and how Raven having the purple hair and green eyes reminds me more of Maleficent. And to me, blue also makes sense as a color to describe her, because it can be a cold, deceptive color, like the Evil Queen is towards Snow White, where as purple can be a more vengeful, and even magical color, which I guess works with the evil queen as well, but I’ve always felt it fit Maleficent’s story. These are just personal opinions of course, because I personally appoint personality traits to certain colors when doing art, and I’m just pointing out it out things I see, I’m not saying how it should be done, or that anyone is wrong, both designs are beautiful and work for Raven, because they’re designed to be Raven

Sadly I dont think they ever will. As said in the video it was cancelled because of 'Descendants' which isnt going anywhere. They also recently cancelled gen 3 of "Monster High" which has always been linked with EAH and was really the only hope I had that it ever *might* come back

If Raven were in a highschool (maybe a modern one? Where she doesn't dress high-end) that didn't have a dresscode I could fully see her lean into punk a little bit (or a lot. She is a rebel after all, so a modern version of her would be so punk imo). My main vision is patches on her clothes and overall just patchwork and fishnets and facial piercings(?). As a punk she challenges the status quo and dresses in a way that reflects that. Although that's more of a rewrite of her character, which would also be fun Realistically though, I could see her as dressing more whimsygoth (think Janis from Mean Girls to Apple's Regina George)

Oh my gosh I LOVED Ever After High as a kid!! I also loved gen 1 Monster High, but my goodness I forgot how much I loved EAH. To be honest, I really like your designs! I love the originals too (though admittedly I was always confused as to why Apple had black, smokey eyeshadow), and they were definitely made to be fashion dolls, but I feel like your designs make more sense to their rolls in the story and would work really well for an animated show or comic book

i love how you gave them their aura even in the school uniform. though.. i'd like rebels to have more "chaotic" looks, i mean, more disordered ones because, they're rebels and theyre not following the rules in the first place, but also i understand, because rebels are exactly the ones that are against their destiny along with the ones who arent from a royal family. i feel like Apple White would have also a more vibrant look because she IS like the most important student there, like a base tbh. AHAHAHAH! EVER AFTER HIGH MY FAVE! Okay SO! I actually really love what you did with their designs here because it is really accurate to how I picture them in the BOOKS by shannon messenger and suzanne sefforts! Like, still a little whimsical. Still a little quirky. Still a little fantasy. But HIGH SCHOOL students! I love them! Thank you so much! Also due to the book descriptions, I picture Raven usually dressing less goth and more emo/alternative. You know. Indie band T-shirt, black jeans, combat boots, ratty hoodie that she should have retired ages ago. That kind of thing. But her dressing like halfway goth but not all goth is also accurate. She kind of does both. Pink apple is also adorable. I think it is not just fine but actively a bonus that she looks similar to Princess Peach. Because one is an apple and one is a peach for crying out loud! They're both freaking fruit! They've actually got this vibe where it feels like Apple is emulating Peach in a way. Like she wants to be perfect and she wants to be a damsel in distress who's still confident, but EAH is significantly more complicated than Mario Games, so she can't. I love that phrase about her being able to bat her eyelashes and get anything she wants, because in the books, that is actually her secret weapon. Batting her eyelashes to look ridiculously precious. Like, it's implied that it's a magical ability. Also. I may or may not have 2 accounts that I am subscribed to you with. I think the baroque aesthetic is very important to the overall vibe of the show every character design has brocade so I wish you would’ve incorporated that brocade design more because it’s one of the design elements that makes the franchise stand out from other doll brands it’s all over the title logo all over the hard cover books it’s kinda all over the franchise you cannot escape the brocade. Another thing is that I think Apples design should be more extravagant she’s commented her love for fashion she’s extremely rich and her appearance/her persona of being this otherworldly perfect royal being is like extremely important to her character yes she’s innocent and trying to be super sweet but most importantly she is the future queen of the whole entire kingdom and her happily ever after drives her character and the main conflict of the series so her being royal and lavish is mandatory. Also apples is extremely smart she’s extremely smart in the books she’s extremely smart in the show she has straight A’s she doesn’t have any magical powers but specifically in the wonderland arc her intelligence plays a giant role in why they’re able to escape she’s helps Raven during the potion class she’s the only one to get it correct minus Raven whose just artistically gifted it’s kinda the point apple is the logical thinker while Raven is the opposite. I really like how they turn the rich popular girl on its head in the franchise both apple and briar are shown to be extremely book smart characters.

it wasnt necessarily "random", though I could see how it would appear that way. The two were always sister series and the intent was actually for them to be part of a whole multiverse. We get the hint of this with Cupid traveling between the schools and of course the end of monster high's "Boo York" with the call to the EAH crew where Nova says that Monster high and all the other schools are real. At the time mattel even made several other trademarks for "___ high" titles. However both series were cancelled before this ever came to fruition

It's called a widow's peak, what Raven's got with her hairline. I get what you're saying but I do think you kinda like, missed the point a little on some of the design choices with Raven and Apple? To name one each, the warm magenta tones on Raven are important to show she's a warm, caring, kind, compassionate person despite being thrown into a villain's position (also teal would have been, I think, a better choice than green; it's a colour that is added to her design sometimes- Legacy Day it's her eyeshadow, a gem on her Thronecoming mask, Dragon Games its her hair... and that'd lose the visual tie to Mal). The black/grey on Apple's outfit is meant to tie into her poisoning. In "Dragon Games", Apple bites into a poisoned apple, and the poison comes out as this black ooze, and the apple turns grey before it turns into dust. It's part of her deep obsession with her story and knowing every minute detail. Black is always present on her outfits, too, except in Epic Winter. But that's because by then she's let go of her obsession with destiny since it takes place after Dragon Games (and also why it's so strongly present at Legacy Day). The black also just like, pops nicely, more than gold or white or pink would in those same places. I think your Apple gives more Galinda (as in, from Wicked) than Peach, tho.
