Very unusual situation had happened when my grandfather was on the hunt in the winter forest with his best animal friend Neron and it turned out that the bear had been following them-the one that didn't hibernate and so was most dangerous and more than that:it was an abnormally large specimen-the largest of all that he ever seen and definitely over 1500lbs!When Neron felt it,he turned around,growled and went straight at the direction where it was while his owner didn't know what was Neron going after and didn't realize that his biggest fear about his companion was about to come true..Than just half a minute later he heard the distant brawling sounds and immediately realized what Neron was fighting with and rushed to help him with his rifle..However when he finally found the two fighters-the fight was already over..Believe it or not but Neron firmly held the beast in inescapable death grip and a few moments later the bear was dead..Now you might be wondering at this point how the hell did Neron kill a 1500lb+ bear or how the hell such a huge and powerful beast can be defeated by a *dog* ?The thing is that Neron was not actually a dog or canine at all:he was a feline-at that point a 12 years old 850lbs in weight orange striped cat with black stripes shaped like candle flame,white belly and a huge gorgeous tail-the characteristic trait of a pure bred Siberian tiger..So this is how a huge and extremely dangerous beast met it's demise in form of slightly smaller but vastly more agile,smart and skilled orange striped assassin that my grandfather raised and bonded with enough to regularly go hunting together since he was just 2 years old novice young striped fellow till they both passed away 17 years later..

I was bow hunting in Northern Michigan when a black bear came below my tree and started sniffing. It looked right up at me and wouldn't leave. It hung around for over half an hour. I know black bears are not a huge threat and all, but it was my first time encountering one in the wild. My heart was pounding the entire time. I was also alone and it was getting dark. I was so scared that I left my crossbow at the tree and sprinted back to my cabin once it left.
@Shine-wb6ll2 жыл бұрын
Damn.. id pass out. You are lucky nothing happened. Because they can climb trees as well. And you know it'll come back again. Bears don't ever give up. And this time it would've definitely climb that tree. The first time it was just assessing the situation. They have such an acute smell. They definitely can smell fear. I am so scared of bears 😓 and i am an animal person. Iv helped over 50 animals in my life. But i cannot stand bears. They are too unpredictable. They are very smart as well. They are the perfect beasts

I’ve never come upon a bear while hunting before, but a friend of my father’s and him were elk hunting in eastern Oregon a couple years ago and while they were taking a break for a moment, and while his friend (let’s call him Mike) went off into the bushes for a sec, a wolf came upon him. All my father heard was all of a sudden Mike making a whole bunch of loud noise. The wolf had been about 5 yards from Mike and the first thing he’d thought to do was just scream and whack the bushes with his bugle. He didn’t even want to pull out his pistol at that point, he just wanted it away from him😬 We heard the wolves at night but that was the only time any of us saw one
@nightshadehelis98212 жыл бұрын
@@Shine-wb6ll I'm also scared of bears. I'm also a massive animal lover, but I've seen videos of what they can do and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I've been told that black bears are harmless and will run away 99% of the time when threatened, but I'm still scared of that 1%. I saw a video that showed the aftermath of a brutal attack and I've never seen anything so messed up. The guy was snowmobiling and got knocked off by a black bear. It mauled his face while he laid there helpless until it finally got bored and left. I'd rather die than lose my entire face and eyesight. I honestly considered sleeping in that tree all night because I didn't know what to do, but I didn't want my family to come looking for me after not returning and get attacked. I also didn't want it to discover me in the tree, but I was afraid of coming down from my treestand, scaring it while I was running back, and getting attacked because it was in "defense mode". In all seriousness, what are you supposed to do in a situation like this?
@nightshadehelis98212 жыл бұрын
@@thereaderofelfhame wow! That's absolutely crazy. Our cabin up north sits on about 200 acres and it now has a rediculously bad wolf infestation because hunting wolves was banned. Last year was the first year in the history of going up north for deer camp that not a single one of us saw a buck. The wolves are ruining everything because they have no predators. You can hear them howling at night. I've never seen one up close (thank god) but I've seen them eating deer guts. They always take off whenever they notice us. I have crossed paths with bears about 4-5 times in my life. Once in Sequoia National Forest my friend and I were on a trail coming back and it was standing right on the path, the best advice is to stand your ground and raise your voice and yell loudly but not to charge or approach, and if you see baby cubs walk quickly the other way as a mama bear will attack if she sees you near her cubs.
@BearMom752 жыл бұрын
I have also crossed paths with a few bears in my life. One was a mom with 3 Cubs outside of Yellowstone. They don’t just automatically attack you because they have offspring and see a person nearby. Give them their space and follow the usual guidelines.

When I was camping in Allegheny national forest, by mistake we drove up on bikes on to a family of bears drinking water and quickly turned around and kept going not looking back to see if they was chasing us. Days later we were told a bear went through our trash and food while we was sleep in the tents. The camp expert leader showed us the bear paw prints and told us she was glad we followed the rules and didn't take any of the food into the tents with us. I told her I heard growling and saw something big walk by my tent and just laid really still and held my breath, like she told us to. I will never forget seeing the beer shadow near my side of the tent when I woke up front the grunt growl sound, cause I am a light sleeper.

I was once attacked by a bear. My friends and I were going on a camping trip and they told me to bring spray against bears or at least a gun. I didn't bring any though. We were fishing on a river, when they went back to the camp I was unlucky because I had not caught any fish so I wanted to stay longer. After a while on my own a big brown bear walked right up to me with a fish in his mouth. I stood up and wrestled the bear down, taking his fish. To this day they would not believe me but I had the fish to prove it.

@alexbennet41953 жыл бұрын
@@joetalley192 “Going into bear country with no weapon is stupid” is it really, if you live in one of the many counties where bears live all over? I’m pretty sure your average Canadian doesn’t bring a rifle with them if they’re taking a walk around the woods/other areas of nature? Tourists don’t carry guns when following trails in national parks? And if you lived in a country like Japan, where bears live all over the countryside, would you just never leave the city? This just doesn’t seem very realistic.
@joetalley1923 жыл бұрын
@@alexbennet4195 I'll bet your average Canadian that lives in big bear country does. Black bears are all over Canada, but that's not the type I'd be worried about very much. I also added the caveat of law prohibiting a weapon. Most people that never leave major trails probably don't need one because of the frequency of people on those trails. Bears, in general, won't try to be where lots of people are. I'm talking about the folks that really get out into the wilderness. If you are anti-gun, you should carry bear spray. If you had ever seen a big bear up close, you might not be so quick to dismiss having a weapon. I don't wanna use it willy nilly, because if I don't need to take a life; I don't. It's their house, I'm just exploring it. I also don't wanna deal with the fall out of a game and parks investigation, and possibly losing my weapon, hunting rights, etc. Have you ever seen a big bear with nothing between you and it? Have you ever seen it think about whether you're food or not? It's unnerving, and that would possibly be the worst way to die that I can imagine (short of what humans do to each other).

I don’t know much about bears… are you not supposed to run? I know one of them is less likely to keep attacking if you play dead and another responds in a favorable manner if you shout and scream at it… if I remember correctly.
@RMR13 жыл бұрын
@@C4RL1NN Running is like ringing the dinner bell. It triggers their predator-prey instinct, so even if they're not hungry or threatened , they will chase you. And they will catch you. And they will kill you. A bear can easily outrun even the fastest human. If it does attack, remember the rhyme: "If it's brown, lay down; if it's black, fight back; if it's white, good night." If a Grizzly (Brown) bear thinks you are dead, it will usually leave you alone. You're no longer a threat and no longer an enticing meal, so ... later! A black bear, however, will continue to attack. So, because they are much smaller, your best option is to fight back. You probably won't win. But you might. If a polar bear comes after you ... you're toast. They are enormous, unfathomably strong and can snap your neck with a simple swipe of its paw. And 99 times out of 100, they will kill you no matter what you do.
@monicacarolina64803 жыл бұрын
@@C4RL1NN Noooo, never ever run. Not with black bears and not with brown bears (including Grizzlies) Running causes their instinct to kick in and they will get preditorial. NEVER run. You can't outrun them, they are 3 times faster. But you are right, there are different things to do with different bear species. 1. Black bears are often less aggressive and they are two times smaller than brown bears (in weight) When a black bear attacks. try to impress it, yell with deep low voice, and if it attacks...FIGHTS with everything you can find. Rocks, sticks. 2. Brown bears (including grizzly and Eurasian Brown bears) are way stronger and we can't fight them. One smack with a claw can kill you. They can crack a solid bowling ball with one bite. If you run into a brown bear, use your voice to let him or her know you are human, please don't panic or scream, and start walking backwards, facing the bear. Never turn your back to the bear. If he or she attacks (use bearspray) but if you have nothing, you can bluff charge back with big low voice and arm wide spread. If this does not work and he or she keeps charging, lay immediate in your belly with your hands in your neck, for protection. Bears will try to grab you and turn you over. Thats why you have to spread your legs wide open, so they can't toss you over easily. a backpack can protect. The only thing you can do is make NO sound (although the pain is terrible) because sounds, screams agitate them more and play dead. The bear needs to feel save before it will leave. Certainly in cases with mother bears and cubs. Many people survived attacks like this by laying dead. They will walk away if they were scared. Now the worst thing....bears don't eat 5months in hibernation, so in 7 months they have to gain a lot of weight. Mother bears don;t eat in hibernation, but do breastfeed the cubs. So they are extremely hungry and skinny after hibernation . Before hibernation they are also more aggressive, because they need to eat as much as possible. The worst that can happen to you is a hungry, starving and preditorial bear. Black or brown. Black bears, you have a change of winning because they are lighter and their teeth and claws are less long. But if you are confronted by a brown bear / grizzly that realy needs to eat and sees you as lunch...you are simply dead if you have no protection. You can pretend dead, but it will not matter. It will eat you. Bears are not evil animals. Actually they are beautiful and the love between mom and cubs is absolutely stunning. She takes care of them for years, she can mate when she is around 10 years, than bears are mature. So she will not raise that many cubs and she loses cubs by preditors. That's why she is like a fury when something "threatens" her cubs. She will even get into huge fights with enormous male bears and will sacrifice herself. Bears have a very hard and tough life, specially the mountain bears in Montana Yellowstone, Washington Sate, Canada. The bears in Alaska near sea and rivers and Kodiak have a pretty convenient life. They are way less aggressive towards people (just don't get near them or their food) but you see often photographers sitting with tripod, and momma bear with cubs just walk by...2 meters from them. I live among bears for many years. But always carry 2 very good quality (there is difference) bear spray cans on my belt. I don't own guns, that is not legal in Europe and we are not used to it. Nobody has guns, only criminals and maybe some hunters. I never would carry a gun. Culture thing I guess. Stay safe and stay in the open areas. Don't go into thick forests where you and the bear can get surprised, but enjoy nature. :)

The second one was just passing by, it really didnt give two shits about all the people lol. And the last encounter is definitely the scariest encounter to be in. A family of Grizzlies, especially if its mom and some Cubs. They can outrun you on a bike.

Running away from bears is potentially one of the worst actions you can take. Doing this marks you as potential prey and rather than backing off due to intimidation, the bear might give chase which is game over.

ALWAYS CARRY A GUN AND OR BEAR SPRAY WHILE ADVENTURING INTO THE WILDERNESS
@travelmemorylane70523 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you arent allowed to carry a gun in Jasper. It is a national park and hunting is strictly prohibited. So bear spray is the best chance.
@travelmemorylane70523 жыл бұрын
@Thomas Anderson understand your point of view but we cant carry gun at all up here. Hard to get a permit. In order to properly down a bear, you probably need a some sort of rifle, which would look like you are going for a hunting.

No, bears usually don't eat humans. While bears do eat meat, they tend to stay away from humans, like most other wild animals. Humans are not part of a bear's typical diet.

I was hiking at Mammoth Lakes California a year ago and came around the corner and there was fully grown black bear. We were on the same trail headed directly towards each other. We were about the length of my driveway from each other. I turned around and walked the other way and never saw him again.
