Simon is ridiculous -- didn't recognize talent standing right in front of him. The Clay/Ruben competition put Idol on the map that year. Clay's voice is still be the best ever, IMO. He is one funny talented man!

Do folks think so little about Broadway because the stage performers, as astoundingly talented and hardworking as they are, do not earn as much as recording artists? It's funny that the artists in the theatre world often don't have a high opinion of pop stars. IMO, Clay is versatile enough to stand out in both.

The best idol, they ever had. Wonderful great voice, and presentation. Rubin had a good voice too, but I think Clays was better. Love in later years they sang together, very good.

With no high points and no low points, and lots of repetition, this song is very hard to sell effectively. Levi Stubbs set the mark at the top to begin with and Clay here very clearly lives up to that standard. In this case, Simon doesn't know what he is talking about.

Nope! It was Melinda, week after week she got nothing but rave reviews, even Simon said 'we like being mean to people sometimes' meaning that it was hard to find bad things to say bout her singing. And Paula said 'gosh Melinda its so hard to critique you cuz your vocals are always spot on!'
