I have a program I put any new saw into. I call it my APM Program, for Advanced Preventative Maintenance Program. It means I start any new saw once a day for a week, once a week for a month and then once a month for a year. After that, I have a pretty good idea of its reliability. The day I get it, it goes into the APM program. Two entries go into my chainsaw log book - PIO and APM for that particular saw. The entry also includes, date, tanks of gas on the saw and any thing I did to the saw. I have a stack of spiral notebooks on the shelf in my office, so I can refer back to them if needed.

I just got 7 of those saws 6 of them got ton of compresion iv got one of them on the bench so far good fire carb needs a kit say it will run good cylinder and piston good shape

WOW! That XL-12 looks just like my Super XL Automatic, setup, color everything except the decal on the starter cover and the manual pump oiler. Mine is a bit cleaner and better looking, but it looks almost identical.

After doing this kind of work for decades it always has amazed me how little people that operate these are so ignorant. It stands to reason in this kind of environment dirt will be a problem. Around here it was most telling of people who use these every day.

I like the stack mufflers. Im of the opinion the saw runs better and cooler and not a much carbon will build up as it does in a heat sink quiet muffler.

I have question I just given one of these because I am using just the motor for something else. First I was wondering do I have to have the oilsr tank on the motor and third I need to get a handle bracket off the motor on top for the guy that gave me this sW

I have a blue super xl auto, was my grandfather's saw, I can not get to run again. Was running fairly well last year, tried making some carb adjustments and used carb cleaner, and hasn't started since. Bought a new carb, installed it and also new fuel filter and line. Not even a sputter. Any advice? It did sputter with a shot of starting fluid but I don't want to overdo it. Thanks, Ken
