My theory for how this virus spread so fast are a few of these ideas: 1. The zombies are a bite and spread type of zombie, meaning they just bite their host (World War Z for example) instead of consuming their victim (The Walking Dead for example) 2. The jet stream, a very fast wind current, must have carried the virus across the country through the atmosphere. 3. On televisions during NYE/NYD, there is a ball drop in New York City, New York (the one the scenario takes place in) where the ball drops in the eastern time zone. After that one, there is one that drops in New Orleans, Louisiana for the central time zone. Finally there are ball drops in Denver, Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada for the mountain and pacific time zones respectively. Maybe, there is an identical virus inside of those other ball drops, and the virus spreads much quicker as a result (hence the time mark “2 hours later, it gets worse”).

It was good up until the zombie part. "Rising up from the dead and becoming zambies" It just seemed rushed. Also, if the robotic voice would constantly remind the people that the zombies are not their friends/ family, and to detach themselves emotionally from them, then that message eventually becoming "detach yourself emotionally from everyone before they get the virus to prevent further damage" or something like that would be cool, I think.

The virus got caught in the jet stream and took it across the country in less than an hour, or when it was spreading all over the country the other time zones had ball drops gone wrong (several of them explode like the one in NYC) thus it took the country in that allotted time.
