You are not completely wrong, and this is a running joke about MLB that has went on for years, but you forget that MLB is not simply U.S. baseball even if the league is almost entirely within the U.S. and most of the players are Americans. The reason that the winners of the World Series have somewhat of a legitimate reason to call themselves “world champions” is because MLB draws the best baseball players from all around the world. Shohei Ohtani (Japan), Ronald Acuña Jr. (Venezuela), Juan Soto (Dominican Republic), etc., are all playing for MLB teams, and the likes of these players represent the greatest baseball players of the entire world.

Hate to not go with the feel-good narrative...but last year's 60-game season doesn't really count. Dodger's world series needs to come with a few asterisks**. Let's see how they do in a full season.

If only I could get a penny for each time I read this ridiculous argument. The Dodgers have won the NL West Division title for six consecutive years prior to the 2020 season and finished the 2020 regular season with the best record in MLB at 43-17. After that, they needed to play through a postseason that’s more gruesome and difficult than an usual postseason, having to win 13 games for the World Series title while a division winner in a normal year would only need 11 wins. The Dodgers have absolutely nothing to prove with regard to their regular season performance, and the idea that their title “doesn’t count” is simply wrong.

The Dodgers have always been plagued by their failures in the postseason, not the regular season. They have nothing to prove about their ability to win a division title in the regular season; it was the postseason in which they needed to prove they can perform, and they did just that in the expanded playoffs format of 2020.
