I grew up fishing and hunting in Southwestern Ontario and was an alcoholic by the age of 25. I always knew I wanted to do something with fishing but was just never too sure how to break into it… In 2005 I met a friend of a friend at a wedding and he just so happened to be on camp leave for this wedding we were at and I asked him what his “camp job” was and he said he was working at a fishing lodge in the NWT as a fishing guide..Sounded VERY intriguing to me! I was in the process of finishing university while working at a brewery & decided I needed a change of life and scenery… So I applied to a bunch of lodges and got a job as a Guide at Brabant Lodge on the Mackenzie River - a pike fisherman’s paradise! And the experience definitely put me on a much better path in life and I still continue to guide (Frontier lodge - NWT) to this day whenever I can… Watching videos like these remind me of Guiding on the Mackenzie River and catching big beast northerns like these daily! Thanks for the great videos Clayton - keep catching BIG fish!!!

That intro really spoke to me Clayton. I’ve been clean off the drugs for 5 1/2 years now, and sober for 3 1/2 years. Fishing has definitely replaced those addictions. I definitely have an addictive personality, and when the wife gives me crap for fishing too much, I always remind her that I could be out doing way worse things. Thanks Clayton

Man, you couldn't have hit the mark any better on what you said. Don't really like to comment on social media because of the back lash/negativity and false information but I have to on this one! I've always seen you as one of the most down to earth genuine people in the KZbin fishing community. Today with this video I now know you are #1. I am 16 years sober. I was a fisherman before but it truly truly became even a more giant part of my life. Sense getting sober I have accomplished some huge fishing goals personally with many trophies. My issues in my past life had caused me to be inadmissible to Canada until last year when I was able to return with my father to Cormorant lake and have an epic trip. I will be back next year 3 or 4 times to Canada and can't wait. Lastly for maybe someone like me who is watching this stuck in a bottle only dreaming thinking it will never happen or no one cares. I am here to tell you I may not know you but I care about you. Get help reach out, and it can all be yours.

I know you fish with barbless being in Manitoba, but here in Alaska we don’t have a barbless requirement. Do you think you lose more fish with barbless hooks, or not really? I like crimping my barbs for grayling and stuff, but for bigger fish I wasn’t sure if the barbs do much for keeping the fish pinned.
@ClaytonSchickOutdoors
@ClaytonSchickOutdoors Ай бұрын
You will not be losing more fish because of barbless in MOST circumstances. One would be like a heavy tube jig, it is a lot easier for that jig to fall out when there is a lot of weight on the actual hook.

@ClaytonSchickOutdoors
@ClaytonSchickOutdoors Ай бұрын
I have been with Eskimo for all of last ice season and will be again for this year. :) It was just the best decision for the direction I was taking my channel. The Humminbird thing was a little different, as I had supported them for several years, and when I would ask for anything it was always pins and needles and then my final conversation with someone there he said "Clayton I don't even know what you really do for us" So that was a VERY easy exit from them and honestly? It was the BEST thing that ever happened to me in regards to technology the Garmin products have made me a way better angler!
