Very nice. This is the first video I've seen that mentioned the pin bones along the lower tail end. We don't have pickerel where I'm from but I've been filleting northern and they all have those pin bones at the lower tail section. No other instructions or videos ever mentions it. Great job on mentioning that in your video.

I’m going to have to try this. A local lake has a lot of pickerel. Even if I mess a few up learning, it will still be beneficial to thin then out.

That is a chain pickerel, you can tell because of the green "chain" pattern on its sides.

Just got back from a walleye trip to Oneida and caught my first chain pickerel but threw it back cause everyone said they were too bony. I'll have to try this out next time. Thanks!

Pickerel are great to eat my ABSOLUTELY favorite...you can fillet the off the bone and leave the skin on, flip them skin side down and "gash" them. Then the bones will melt away when u fry them and u get the whole fillet. Then we usually cut into two strips slicing with the length of fillet..when I say "gash" I mean take ur fillet knife and slice the meat to the skin eat cut very close from the previous cut u made, U will be able to feel the fillet knife slice through the bone very close to the skin... once u have tried this there is no way u will spend that much time doing all the slicing and feeling u did... but great video bud I hope yall try it's a game changer seriously(it's the same way u gash sucker)

Up here in Saskatchewan Canada we don't call them pickerel the names they have here are northern pike... Jack... And the ones who do not like their table fare call them slough sharks and we call walleye pickerel... We also know that the jack is it type of pickerel

Yes, this is a redfin pickerel. Hence the red fins... Chain pickerel have green fins and a vertical black stripe thru their eye. Some good eating though! Thanks for the video.

Instead of playing with y bones, you should start cutting into tail up to Y bone then grab fillet tail ends one peace in each hand and pull apart ( zipper ) into Two pieces, then take the piece that has Y bone attached to it and ( zipper ) remove the Y bone and you are left with boneless fillets of wallet, a lot cleaner and not as messy.
