Anyone wondering how to do this in DaVinci Resolve 17: 1. In the "Mixer" panel go to "Effects" > "+" > "Restoration" > "Noise Reduction" 2. A Window will open. Under the equalizer plot, check "Auto Speech Mode" instead of "Manual". Done!

I'm going to be doing the podcast whilst walking in a semi-urban area. I'm trying to figure out what kind of lavlier mic to use and I'm veering towards omnidirectional because it's better for wind, but it will also pick up a lot of surrounding noise. Do you think the voice isolation will work for this situation? I know I used it for recording on a treadmill and it was surprisingly good. Any advice appreciated!

Yes I think it will work very well....almost too well. On a podcast the soundscape tells a lot of the story and if you are using the voice isolation it's going to nuke all outside sounds. Unless you plan to mix sfx over the top of your audio and provide a backing track I'd say dead cat your mic (maybe like the rode wireless go mic's or if you have a sound guy go with a NTG-4 or something (it has it's own battery - and record to a portable 32bit float (or even into the wireless go mics via the input port and a xlr to 3.5mm cable)

Thanks for the helpful video about the VOICE ISOLATION feature in DaVinci Resolve Studio. It's unfortunate that this sound editing tool is not part of the sound editing features found in the free version of this excellent non-linear editing software. A question about the Voice Isolation feature. If I just want to apply this feature to 1 clip, will I have to use a whole new video / audio channel in order to just apply Voice Isolation to that 1 clip and not affect the audio for the other clips on the main Video / Audio Channel #1? From what I can see, the Voice Isolation feature automatically applies to all clips that are using the same specific Audio Channel.

Good question - the way I applied it hits the entire track as you said however, you can apply it in the inspector on a clip by clip basis

the reason why i ask john is i have never used it before and my work has changed. i need to downgrade my cpu to a 5800x3d for a specifc purpose then still edit in studio using this cpu with my 3080ti, but send the project out to my other pc which is beefy enough. 5950x with 2080super. i still dont understand which pc does the actual rendering and if this is a bad move. That's insane that it also removes the echo. I heard that if you apply this on the edit page, clips must be at least three seconds long. I assume that's not the case if you apply it to the entire track in Fairlight?

It definitely requires a minimum amount of audio to sample and apply it's machine learning model to though I haven't tested the bounds. I tend to do every effect I want on more than one clip in fairlight and at the track level anyway because if I have treated tracks I can tell which audio has the effect and which doesn't just by looking at the timeline

I'd try finding the music at it's source - most of the music used by creators is pretty easy to find in name/title with Shazam or similar app. On the voice - try using the Voice Isolation and see how well you can tweak it to generate the voice only track
