I love the way our basement looks now, I do not like a mess and knew this would take awhile. I have been wanting to get down in the basement to clean it up, but knew it would take time and I felt a little overwhelmed doing it by myself so I am glad Cambriea took lead on this project. Going to the same style plastic containers is a huge help when you do a project like this. It made it way easier to stack the bins and these bins are a lot stronger and have built in handles. This will make moving a lot easier because everything is already packed up nice and neat. Not sure if Cambriea already mention this, but we took 5 SUV loads to Goodwill, and 1 SUV load of recyclables and garbage to our city recycling center. Also our garbage bin and recycling bin were both full, so we got rid of a lot of stuff, it really was a good downsizing. All our old plastic bins I gave to my Dad and our neighbor across the street, and my Dad still needs to come over with his van to haul away his 3x6 foot Air Hockey Table that I was storing for him. Plus by doing this the boys have a place to practice their Ninjutsu and have a nice big play area inside the house. :)

Finally getting back to comment! What a fantastic transformation! Not that it was bad before - it was pretty organized - but now it just works so much better for your family. It really is such a nice space. You asked for suggestions that won’t break the bank. I have a friend who was in a similar situation and wanted to spruce up her basement without spending a lot because she planned to move. She had storage at one end , open play area in the middle and carpets with sofa and chairs and inexpensive TV at the other end. She painted her room in a neutral color in a tone that complimented the furniture, then painted a stripe around the room at chair rail height to give the room some interest and break up the big expense of solid wall. She already had some patterned pillows she wanted to add to the sofa so she chose a color from those for her stripe. It really did pull everything together and give the space a finished look. She considered adding a narrow stripe of another, darker color on each side of her original stripe, but ultimately chose to leave it as is. You could do something similar, painting in a shade of cream or beige that goes well with the sofa and rug. You could choose pretty much any color for the stripe - maybe a shade of red to pick up the color of the posts and the one rug? You could do the single stripe or go with a narrow second color on each side maybe using a deep green (sort of Gucci-esque) or black. You and Bobby work so well together. And you just have the best boys! Xander was such a huge help (like his little brother, as we get to see so often). You have created the nicest family. 💕

At first I was confused about why you only labeled the lids, but now I see it's so that you can just put whatever in whatever box and then put the lid wherever it goes. So smart!

Insulate and finish the ceiling, add some great can lighting, take a section and create a storage room. Leave walls and floors alone. Love the brick and floors are fine for a basement

Girl - you have SO MUCH perseverance!!! You are a true motivator! First, my dvd collection is about an eighth of the size of Bobby's and I got one of those books like you have over three years ago & still haven't finished filling it or purchased more to fill with the rest. I have been on the fence on whether or not to even keep any beyond my absolute faves & classics etc. But as usual you have motivated me to finish the job - which will take me an hour at most & will free up so much space as you clearly know! Lol! And I live in an apt so I don't have the amount of space you do to store such things. So - it is a must for me. I think the basement looks great-clean & dry for storage and exercise space. I don’t know if you’d add any additional value to house by trying to finish the basement more. I think people will be excited to have good storage and will like how you’ve organized & labeled your totes. There will be some people who will feel overwhelmed with what you’re storing-I think that these people will be older & have started downsizing. I think people with young families will be excited by the storage space. Maybe put some pictures of your outdoor spaces decorated on the totes as it may inspire younger families. I think most people love organization as either they’re good at it or they aspire to it. Do your own research on houses selling on Zillow and then talk to a seasoned realtor when the time to plan comes near.

The houses are smaller in florid. You may find yourself needing a rented storage unit or a have a shed on your property.

My basement is essentially the same. I need to even the concrete out and figure out what to do. I’ve considered peel and stick tile or painting a design and epoxying it. Unsure as of now.

I love that all of your bins are the same! I’m OCD and I appreciate appreciate the small things. I think having one area for storage and one for a living area is a good idea? I say keeping it neutral and simple would be good so that it’s easier for you and the people who end up buying the house can add their own touch?

From a selling stand point, I would say you want the floor to be up to date, ceiling to have a finished look, fresh paint on the walls, and 0 clutter, including removing your green screen (that makes it look cluttered. Other than that, you shouldn't need to do anything else to your basement.

Love all the totes so uniform. You should have kept the old ones just for when your ready to move. Totes are easy to carry verses boxes. :')

I think you may have a buying addiction like my hubby who suffers from Too Much Stuff Syndrome. I am a compulsive cleaner and the hubby of 40 years of marriage is a hoarder who has 20 dozen of everything. I do my best to keep it organized but I have arthritis and can't keep up like I used to. It is a constant battle. Yesterday we started reorganizing the garage for spring. Trust me it is stuffed. We got a lot done yesterday but today I am in severe pain and have to rest my joints. He has bad knees too and can't help like he used to. I would pitch 95 percent of it without a backwards glance but can't. Thank for lovely souls like you dear one. I wish you could come to our house in Indiana.I would happily pay you whatever you ask. Much love sent to you from me.

Don't you just love those carloads out? We take all our old crap straight to Goodwill or the trash. We filled up a huge city trash bin and recycle bun yesterday. I away clean out the shp vac directly on top the trash so the hubby doesn't go back in a fish stuff out again.😈

You would fill it full of junk ! When we retired and downsized I made sure to pick a house with no basement! I've spent too many years of my life decluttering basements full of deferred decisions.. This new house it was use it or lose it. I didn't even keep bins.

If you're able to contain the storage to certain areas in the basement and then hang drapes around the areas (hung from the basement ceiling) you could compartmentalize it and create storage "rooms" without the expense of drywall, etc.

And add more posters or something that’s eye catching for the walls in the exercise area will make your basement show worthy. Think focal point for the eyes. I’m no expert but this is a great basement that will say versatile to any buyers.

Regarding the basement, I have a friend who painted the cement floor and then sealed it with layers of epoxy and it now looks and shines like marble flooring. Really makes a statement. White walls, especially in a basement, doesn't strike me as warm and inviting. It's pretty sterile and cold and looks unfinished. I would go for either a light Grey or light brown. Light Grey with white molding and the floor painted like white marble with some nice large carpets would look like it was finished without breaking the bank.

He didn’t want to touch that stuff!! 😂😂 I love a good vacuum cleaning ! When I was growing up, we had a little round Hoover, and the bags were more expensive and we lived far from the store. So, we all got very good at reaching into the bag and pulling out the lint and hair so we could reuse the bag - a second, third or fourth time. Sometimes you found a prize! A bobby pin or a safety pin, or a penny!

I would definitely paint ceiling bright white and walls also. Maybe seperate basement in sections. Storage, playroom, family room to show potential buyers that you have enough space. Reach out to companies for free furniture like article.

Hi Cambriea! Great organization project! There is something so satisfying about watching someone else doing a major re-organization project hahahahaha!!!!! I have bins that go in bin rack storage shelves along one wall of my garage. Looks neat & tidy and everything is accessible as there is only one bin per cubicle on the shelves. I also color coded my bins (I know!! Geekiness personified!!) for different seasons.
