I honestly don’t understand why people concern themselves with how much clothing you have for your children. It is none of their business - you shouldn’t have to explain yourself. I don’t see anything wrong with it - you want your kids to look nice & not wear the same things all the time. You do what makes you happy❣️

It’s just me & my husband here. We live in So. Central TX. I cleaned out our entryway coat closet recently and sent 5 coats/jackets to donation. Now we have 4 each, which covers us for all seasons and fit nicely in the one closet.

Need this! We're finishing our basement and garage 😊. I'm learning to accept the space I have and not try to cram storage where it doesn't belong. We're currently moving our off season items out of the furnace room (fire hazard!) and into the closet at the entry to the basement (where they were probably supposed to be already if not for clutter overflow!). This means lots of purging and decluttering in our near future.

I put our (family of 5) coats and off season jackets in a vacuum sealed garment bag that hangs in the hallway/coat closet. They go from about 2 1/2 feet of space to about 6 inches of space.

I think if you’re expecting to have more children, it’s perfectly fine to have saved all those clothes. It’s a sign that you take care of your children’s clothes and you can hand them down to your next child. Plus you’re saving them from a landfill and what you don’t end up using with your younger child, you can give away or donate. ❤

I just recently watched your basement organize/clean video and I can relate so much on how hard it is to get rid of baby clothes. I have two boys as well. And I have an extremely hard time with parting with their belongings. They are attached to so many memories. I’m saddened people gave you a hard time. You keep what you want. You are a beautiful inspiration. And p.s any daughter in law wants to look through her husband’s cute baby clothes! I would! ☺️

RE: CLEANING THE WINDOW SILLS. I figured out how to get a water source to clean them. I connect a waterski to an electrical source by the window I want to clean and voila, I have a directed, small stream of water to clean whatever sill I want to clean.

We have an entryway closet. It is filled 75% with my husbands stuff. 🙂 I'm like you: I buy 1 pair of skechers per year and wear them most every day. Last year's are for doing work around the yard and one very old pair is for painting! I wash the sneakers regularly and air dry. I also wash the washable jackets regularly. I have a wire shoe rack on the closet floor and put the shoes in there after we come in. I have an over - the - door hook rack for caps and purses. I like closing the closet door to prevent visual clutter in the entryway.

Leave things in the hall closet year-round. I'd rather keep the bulky jackets and clothes hung up rather than stuffing bins. Plus, I'm not putting much else in the hall closet specifically in the summer

I love watching you clean and declutter. You inspired me to declutter 31 years of "Stuff". I retired 2 years ago, all of our children are grown and I could not stand being in our clutter day in and day out. So out it went! I live in a 1800's farmhouse with no closets, so nope, I do not switch seasons for coats. Coats and accessories are stored in wardrobes I have just inside the front door. Treasure those closets:)

That is funny about the shoes. I buy one new pair of Birkenstock sandals every year and Birk clogs or shoes every other year.. I keep my sandals in order by age. 5 years is working in the yard, 4 years is just knocking around, 3 years are always my nicely broken in favs, 2 years are going out and first year just sit and I wear them a bit to break in but I don't like them yet. And the fur lined sandals are for when it's cold and I'm still not ready for shoes haha.

I think it’s sweet to save some outfits for future grandkids. I have two sons and maybe one day some grandsons. My friend saved a few special things and gave them to her adult son since he was going to be a dad. He looked at his mom and said “mom just get rid of them, my wife won’t want to use them”. She was a little heartbroken. 😢

Truth is, kids probably won't be attached to stuff they can't remember. But what you just don't do is reject your mother like that unless she's someone you can't stand. Your options are: - you take the stuff, say thank you, & keep them for family story time - you do a picture session with your kid in them & make it a gift to your mom, then keep the stuff as mementos, this way you can honestly say that the trends have changed, but that it was fun to take pics of your kid with the clothes, but you won't make the kid wear them on a daily basis because they're too fragile & precious & might get damaged - if the kid is born in a different season, winter/summer clothes won't fit, so perfect excuse. Now, the counterpart is that the parents have done their part & kept the clothes, the rest is up to their kids. The way they deal with it is their choice. One thing I can't stand is pushy parents who impose their wants & ideas on already adult children. This turns a good memory of baby clothes into a horrible time for all involved.

@@EtherealBlueRainbow yes, great ideas. I think what she should’ve done is had a story time with her son and DIL and showed them the momentos she kept and how much they meant to her. Then maybe asked if he would like to be the custodian of these items. The truth is they don’t have an emotional attachment to them. We do. 😂 Because maybe the DIL would think the sailor suit is cute enough for Junior to wear and have a photo shoot to match his dad’s. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For the windows, can you just use an empty milk carton that you wash out and refill with water? You could carry it around your house and just dump enough water on the window track to wash off the soap :)

Hi Catherine! As always another great video! We have a coat closet and we don’t rotate things out of it but it definitely has way too much in it for two people. Haha. I will need to rewatch this to keep me company while I declutter it. Hope you are having a great week!

In our entryway closet, we moved the coat rack close to the floor, then added two shelves 18 inches apart above the hanging bar and it has made a huge difference in our family... Plus the kiddos can reach their coats.

Yes, always switch out seasonal stuff in our entryway. Coats get washed and stored and hats, gloves and scarves the same. Also add a basket of SPF/nsun protection so we remember to top up before we go out x

Put a baby crib sheet over your cushion. Make sure it’s one with elastic all around. My daughter suffers with allergies too. Then you can just pull it off through it in the wash and put it back. Way easier than washing cushions

Wow, you are going to save some of those clothes that long. I did not save any clothes from my sons and save their baby shoes and they don't want that either. His wife did not seem to want it either LOL. Most children don't even want that stuff. I have been trying to get my son to take his high school and college stuff to his own house. This year I going to just throw it way since he does not want it.

This was a great video, Catherine. My husband has way more shoes than me. He declutter one pair! That's because I was bugging him to. I could find at least 5 more pairs to get rid of 😂. Shoes are definitely a problem for me, IDK what it is, but I have not been able to get myself to declutter more. Dont get me wrong, I have cleaned out a bunch, but for some reason, the shoes I do have that I love, I want multiple colors in, or styles. I really need to be hard with myself and come to terms with the fact that I dont need them, nor do i wear them. but I am working this next batch like I do with my clothes. If I dont wear them in so many months per the season they are good for, I need to make myself get rid of them.

Fantastic declutter video again, I'm just sad that for one of the first time someone isn't embarassed to show some of the clothes that can't be donated, you've tossed them off camera as it's by far my biggest struggle in decluttering, and also the only one everyone do off camera haha so I really though finally someone will film it as in most of your declutter video you film well while discarding the clutter for other things. Hope you'll have more one day and will film it as I'm not missing any of your cleaning videos 😇 If they still just sit somewhere and arn't thrown away yet, it can be done in an upcoming video too haha but I doubt it as I'm probably the only one who declutter these clothes in clean bags that stays forever in my garage instead of doing like anyone and bring them directly to the kitchen can like you've probably did 🥲

We don’t switch our coats I personally only have 5 coats that take me through the 4 seasons in the northeast. My partner has a few more but he needs some specific coats for fishing & work. Probably a totally of 14. We have decluttered to the max in our house.

Be careful with that dishwasher.... it *looks* like the one I replaced literally yesterday, was only a few years old. That blue plastic piece at the bottom melted a year ago? I replaced it, then it did it AGAIN! possible I had a weird defective machine, but I wasn't about to play games with an appliance that wanted to cause a fire risk when I generally run it when I'm headed to bed! Just wanted to let you know! Mine was a fridgidare something.

Well now I do have an entryway closet but it doesn't get switched out because thats where all the horse equipment lives 😂. The coats are relegated to the hooks on the back of the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom doors. I have way too many coats and need to declutter, but I love them all and don't want to 🤦
