I retired 2 years ago from a 31 year career. I decluttered my house in the last 2 months, you inspired me!!! I couldn't stand all the stuff!!! Being away at work, I was able to ignore it. It is exhausting to manage stuff and to declutter. But decluttering feels great once it is done❤

I loved the thoughtfulness of this video! As a mom of a now grown son, I can definitely appreciate your desire to keep them little and to just soak up all the sweet moments with them in this season of life. It goes by so so quickly! So I’m glad you’re seeing the value of your time with them and your hubby over the management of all the stuff that eventually ends up in the trash anyway. You’re such a good mama! ❤

I moved countries a few months ago and had to buy “everything”……..I have 3 teenage boys and we had lots of “stuff”. Before we moved I declutterred. Then when I moved I bought all of the organisational bins. What ever fit in them stayed and all the rest- was donated. Third time round I’ve now nearly completed the whole home and it’s feeling good. I also have minimal kitchen “stuff”, I find I really do not require a lot at all….so we were very intentional with every purchase.

You’ve come a long way on your decluttering journey. For me the hardest thing was to stop the inflow of stuff. I try to only shop with a list, it’s easier with food than stuff. I usually don’t like visiting stores and that’s good but hello internet… And digital decluttering, I always unsubscribe from newsletters around black friday when everyone bombard me/ us with their offers. It’s a struggle sometimes when you want to stay within your budget and buy what you can on a discount but keep the balance. I’ve also set up a ”no buy list” of items I’m ”not allowed” to buy: candles, note books etc. On the other hand I’m always allowed to buy all the clothes I like because I usually don’t like a lot they offer in the stores and if I don’t keep up my clothes start looking dingy because I don’t have a lot. I only but ”perfect” clothes, everything has to check my boxes: perfect fit, it has to be made in my prefered material/s and be comfortable.

Just a side note until my boys have jobs, my house, my declutter. I let them know when it was going to happen, however if it hasn't been used or touched in 6 months it's gone. Until they are out of the house then they have a say, but until then this is how I can manage my home and it maks the decluttering so much easier.

I started decluttering last week and found that I had a ton of stuff I have purchased for whatever reason I thought I needed it for and then forgot about it and ended up ordering other things for that same reason and now I just have a ton of stuff. I am overwhelmed by it all and really have no idea why I am so obsessed with buying things and I really need to be intentional, but I have no idea where to start.

Might want to research the effects of using dryer sheets... A suggestion for your area rug sliding around is a rubbery mesh grid that you place underneath to prevent the sliding.

Love the video! I try to follow the Fly Lady app for a cleaning schedule. I am curious if you have any tips for curating a home style, even though you mention not having a ton of decor, your house has a whole similar style and I really enjoy it! I think maybe I don't know how to find mine because most of the furniture my husband and I got was hand me downs and not necessarily items I would have picked out.

Hi! I think your house is big enough. You’re always decluttering because you’re kind of shopaholic. But you’re on a right way! Less clothes, electric helpers, dishes, chemicals for home. I have it 1000 times less than you, house with 1 bath (I don’t want to clean more than one bathroom!) and it’s smaller with only 3 cabinets in the kitchen and only 1 drawer. No one in my family has dresser with drawers. Everyone has his own closet without drawers. My son wears uniform to school, so he needs 3 white t-shirts for sports and 3-5 coloured for home. I don’t buy any cheap decor (only antiques and art) and so on. I don’t have dryer and microwave, no electric help in the kitchen but coffee machine)). Nevertheless we are eating only self made food! I cook 3 times everyday. Of course I’d better burn useless papers in the fireplace then buying additional electrical stuff. Less home + less stuff = less cleaning + more fun and enjoying life 🌼 But you did a great job! Many other people should learn your methods 🤗 I’m sorry if made some mistakes, don’t like using vocabulary)) Greatings from St.-Petersburg, Russia 🤗🙂🌞

So nice to hear your approach. Very responsible and I imagine aligned with many people in this world. I will say, almost all of us Americans fall victim to consumerism to various degrees. Catherine has far less than most Americans - on purpose. She is more intentional than most American influencers I watch, not to mention people I actually know.

I agree. I also think that the house is big enough. You have big kitchen, kids rooms, bed room, living room. For four people is more than enough space. Bigger house is more expensive, more space to clean, more clutter etc. maybe less toys, clothes would help to enjoy the space without so much cleaning. Greetings from Hungary.

I recognize that a bigger home isn’t for everyone but we do feel we’re on top of each other in our current home. We certainly don’t need a mansion but we would like additional closet space and one more bathroom! Of course in this economy though we’re just grateful we have a roof over our heads.
