Nice. I just paid $1,400 to have mine cleaned. I'd like to add one thing to this video. To ensure the filters are clean, you have to be able to shine a light through and see it from the other side. Good luck my fellow drivers, may you save wherever possible!

@@SMD-i3v I would agree today. But at the time my filters registered as bad, you couldn't buy them new for any dollar amount. Your only option was to clean them. And $1,400 was for both filters. And at that time given the COVID situation, I was happy to pay it in order to keep running.

One or two improvements.. 1) Use the vacuum to help cleaning, that is, seal the lid with plastic or something. 2) Show result after one. 3) Use water and some chemicals on "cleaned" PDF.. if dirt comes out, then this method using air is not enough.

Some are using high pressure HOT water blow out. What isn't shown here, because he doesn't have the equipment to check or test the effectiveness, is the rod hole push test, and the vacuum test, to test actual blow though improvement. I'm sure this, and the hp hot h2o clean out both help, but can also damage if not done correctly, but it's not a professional grade dpf cleaning, or baking.

Great idea great video thanks for the help. I'd like to point out a couple of things though. As some others have mentioned the very fine particulates are very hazardous to your health. Much more care and precaution should be taken to these fine particulates in the air. Something else you might want to note, once you've done this process you need to get the rod , yes a rod that is used to measure the depth of the soot that is left in the particulate filter. I think your process would be effective as a stopgap measure. However oh, for the $300 it cost to have a blown out in my opinion is much better and faster. Either way great video keep up the good work love your stuff it's all very good information.

@@fernandoscarnato9972 sadly I think you're the one who is mistaken. Soot is partially burnt fuel, high in carbon content. Ash is completely burnt fuel low in carbon content. The DPF is to catch soot from the exhaust and the regen cycles burns it off into ash and CO2.

That's a lot of carbon but isn't the ash material a reddish color? Carbon just gets burned off during regen. It's the ash we need to get out of the DPF by cleaning.

Hi great idea to clean.. But there is one problem with what you are doing.... when you show the results of the cleaned out debris in the vacuum bucket you can see ALL the small particles floating around in the air... those particles are deadly and the finer ones not noticable to the eye can cause you to get lung cancer if you inhale them let alone some poor person who is within the close area who is just unlucky to breathe them in accidently.. Your cause to help those of us to find away to clean the DPF is very Noble but if you continue please use some filter and protective gear for your health sake to breathe... and a sealed off area area to do it... its not worth losing or shortening your Life. Ask yourself where are those FLOATING particles going?? FRIEND...YOU ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE MONEY OR THE JOB.

Just make sure you are fully masked up. If you expose yourself to that your exposure rate is so very high you really risk your health. Remember that is why the filters are in place to keep the particulates out of the air. Be safe out there!

@RawzesCollection
@RawzesCollection 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of people simply do not understand how these devices work, and how easily they can get damaged or weakened. Any liquids will contribute greatly towards washing out the precious metals, weakening its ability to perform its functions and regen processes. Also, half the holes in the DPF element are actually supposed to be blocked off at the back end of the element. This is so that it can collect and trap soot. -- Using only an air gun to clean one is a stop-gap measure at best to get you down the road a few more miles. Baking it at a high temperature to convert the soot into ash, then an air knife style blower + vibration type cleaning machine is the most effective way to clean one after its removal. Most Dealerships can do this for a few hundred bucks if they have a machine, and is a lot more effective than someone trying to clean it themselves with a blow gun. - Lastly, if one is bad enough that you need to remove it and do things like this to it, then there are engine problems. Without solving the engine problems, it is simply a matter of time before it clogs right back up again. the engine makes the soot, the DPF element is simply collecting it, and if it cannot keep up, then there are engine problems that need to be corrected to go along with servicing these and other emissions components.

If you don't reset the ash count in your truck's ecm after cleaning your dpf filters, after a few months your truck will think the filters getting full and go into derate and force you to perform a regen. I experienced this myself. It got to the point I was doing a regen day and it was getting expensive. Then I found out about OTR Performance's DTC+Reset tool.
