@@donbratton Hey dip, he specifically told you why. The car's computer checks the pressure there. An imbalance can throw the system out of whack. Do you understand that we aren't looking at a horse's rear end and instead an orifice of a machine that needs more than hay to run properly? To your question of WHY - the car will check vacuum there. If the vacuum is not correct it will not pass tests. If it doesn't pass tests then in many locations you can't get your car registered. If you can't get it registered, then you can't get it insured. If you can't get it insured, then you can't drive it on the road. An easy way to avoid all these problems is to CLEAN THE FLAP, tardo.

I have read that wd40 is great for the first 2 days but then dries things up too much and also is not supposed to be mixed with the gas. Some people I see on these videos actually spray wd40 on the outside of the white funnel and push that in and out of the tank multiple times. That seems like it would mix with the gas and cause problems? Can you speak to that. Also if you suspect hinges are stuck a git, can you put oil on the funnel and push that in and out too? I don't want to sound like a stereotyped woman but I am really nervous to do this and we have been dealing with stall on gas up only and P0496 and suspect very much it is the capless area doing it. We suspect the flapper is allowing too much air in on our Ford Fusion 2020. Remote start is fine and smooth so clearly it is something only on the hinges that involve gas up. John, Don't get me started on Fuel Cans, I have a couple of older ones that work just fine. They pour fast with very little spillage. The trick is to get Gas from the new cans into the older ones. I spill a lot, so most of the time I just deal with the new cans. My Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor has a big 4 inch opening and I can just take the Spout off of the newer Cans and pour directly into the tank. But generally, I spill several Teaspoons of Gas to protect the world from a little Gasoline Vapor. The Capless Filler Neck I do like, I have a Shop Tip Video that talks about removing worthless steps from tasks (see link below), but I wish the Filler Neck was designed better, to not get dirty (the point of this video) and to seal for the life of the car/truck. I appreciate the comment! - Stiles Shop Tip #4 - Stop Repetitive Tasks, Radio on with Overhead Lights kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmecaqN6pJ1gj8U

My flapper door will not stay open when I do this procedure.

Bleeke, Insert your OEM Funnel into your Fuel Filler Neck, then stick something inside of the Funnel to hold the Flapper Valve open when you remove the Funnel. Be sure to use something that cannot be dropped into the Fuel Tank, a long Coat Hanger for example. - Stiles

@Stiles Automotive I used the video step by step with the exact same tools that you did. I have a 13 taurus limited.

The Man, Yep, why doesn't some make and sell a Fuel Can with the correct Nozzle to work with this Filler System? It's on many, many Cars and Light Trucks! - Stiles

I don't like the fact you can just open that filler cap like that what if someone wants to fill it up and put anything down there?I've got key entry on my ford which is safer than this. But yeah I clean this area too lots of people neglect this

Yes, good point, I have locking gas caps on my older vehicles. I have seen the locking cap that goes in this neck. Again, good point and thanks for the comment! - Stiles

Time to move my friend. Not everywhere in America has hundreds of people walking around looking for vehicles with no locks, just so they can pour something down it.

I cleaned mine and the check fuel filler message went away for a few days but it came back I tried to clean it again but it’s still there

David, I normally reply to your type of comment within 24 hours, but I wanted to research this more. You need to find someway to seal the Fuel Filler opening, this will ensure if the fault goes away, that this is your problem. I thought that the Locking Capless Filler Neck Cap may be the solution, but I don't think this provides a seal. You may be able to use one and add an O-Ring to it. In another comment on this video, someone mentioned a proper size rubber stopper, that is a good idea, too. Let me know how it goes! - Stiles

Leonard, I once worked with an old crusty Engineer, that would say, yes it "sucks" but it also "blows" . . . which may be good it in equilibrium, . . . or worst 'cause the suck is pushing and pulling at the same time . . . well anyway it "sucks" LOL - Stiles

Talk about LAZY ... it's redundant to have to remove a cap from the filler neck?? JEEZUS!!

Mike, I do like the idea of no Gas Cap, however I want a Cap, if the Filler Door Area will get dirty (it will), if as the Filler Neck gets old, the car will have runability issues, and if when the Filler Neck gets old I will have to replace the whole Neck ( you can buy a bunch of New Caps for the cost of the Filler Neck Assembly). Again, I like the idea of getting rid of repetitive tasks, I even did a "Shop Tip" on the subject (see link below). - Stiles Shop Tip #4 - Stop Repetitive Tasks, Radio on with Overhead Lights kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmecaqN6pJ1gj8U

That is dumb watch scotty kilmer on this subject...what would it cost to replace that dumb valve...what would it take for some idiot to mess up your fuel. Heard they even are dangerouse for gas explossions? Put it this way,,,look at all the youtubes on this subject . Think...a gas cap...really

Put, I'm not sure there is a question here! I normally address comments with valid questions. 1) Part of the point of the video, is this design will likely cause many problems as the car ages, 2) to replace the Flapper Valve you would replace the Filler Neck Assembly, cost for the part is likely greater than $200 and then add labor, 3) Dangerous? Unlikely, the Door Seal and Flapper Valve would likely cause an EGR related fault, indicated by the Check Engine Light, long before this would leak that must Fuel Vapors. This is not my design, it is used on many, many modern vehicles, yes I was critical of the design in my video, however, I would not replace it. If I were adding or modifying a Fuel Tank under a Pickup Truck Bed, I would probably select a Filler Neck with a Cap. The point of the Stiles Automotive Video is to help you clean and maintain your Capless Filler Neck. - Stiles

Yeah, except it was the Ford dealerships in Engineers that decided on this, not people just buying a car or a truck. So how about cool it what the insults? Or try to use your thinking skills to think before you type
