Really helpful. My 12 year old machine started making weak coffee and throwing the bean grounds inside the coffee maker instead of producing those compressed waste discs of coffee ground. It was the brew unit seizing up as it had never been taken apart as per this video (thats not in the user manual !). A good soak and clean later and the brew unit was back in service and the machine working perfectly. Thanks again.

These are great machines, and if you're prepared to get your hands dirty it will last 10+ years. Mine has made 12,000+ double espressos, so a deep clean and lube every 6 months doesn't seem unreasonable.

Thank you. Mine was so stuck I did not know the metal disk could even move up and down. The symptom was coffee grounds going everywhere inside the machine. The debris basket was not getting filled with the round pucks of discarded coffee. I disassembled, cleaned and lubricated per your instructions and it works great. I found replacement o-rings and the same food grade lube in your video on Amazon.

Had a lot of trouble with water only dripping out the nozzles. Cleaned the infuser regularly but always went bad again soon after. Applied much more silicone as per this video and seems much better. Still getting coffee mush rather than a dry puck but one thing at a time.

Please make sure that your grinder is not set too fine. You could try to use a more dry roast. If this doesn't work you may need to replace your pump.

@@MatiCoffeeIncElkGroveVillage Problem solved. The disk on the top of the infuser is not decorative...it has tiny holes which on mine were all mostly blocked. Normal cleaning doesn't unblock these holes unless you pay attention to them. So, holes cleaned and working perfectly again. Thanks Mati

This was so helpful - THANK YOU! My machine quit putting out any water via the coffee spouts after a descaling. I pulled it all apart with help from your video, cleaned the tubing (very gross!) and the infuser. It is now sending hot water out the hot water spout, but barely drips out the coffee spout when rinsing before turning off / on. When it does, I get an error message saying coffee is ground too fine, insert water spout. So proud of myself for shocking my hubby with my ability to clean it - and now I'm determined to fix it! All I can think is some gunk dislodged during the descaling but I can't figure out where it's at. Any thoughts before I give up and take it to a pro? Thanks!

If you have a grounds too fine error message, this could be an indication that your machine needs service. We would recommend to have a technician check out the machine. It is possible that after the descale a pipe could be clogged with lime. Please contact us if you have any questions. [e-mail]

Thanks for the video...I completed the clean up as per the video...now when I run the machine, the brewer cassette does not stop elevating, like it wants to come through the top of the machine...after this initial cycle, I get the "insert brewer cassette" which is already installed.

This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. kzbin.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

I pulled the infuser out of the machine and noticed some plastic pieces laying inside. After looking a little more, it looks like the back part of the infuser did not get lined up with the pin (I think that's what it is called) and it is broken. That's my best guess after looking all over for information. Can I buy those replacement parts? I'm not sure when it happened - likely in the last week. The machine is programmed to go back into the 'home' position when it is shut off, for easy removal and cleaning. If it is having trouble doing so, there could be a blockage or something isn't communicating correctly inside the machine. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse it might be time to bring in to a trusted technician.

Superb video - thanks for the guidance. Our machine has decided to dispense uneven amounts of coffee. When we select two cups, one cup will be almost overflowing, while the other is only a quarter full. Do you know what might be the problem? (This only happens when two cups are selected).

It could be a clog in a pipe, solenoid valve, pump or even the dispenser. It would be best to have your machine serviced by a technician. It might just need a good cleaning or tune-up. We service all espresso machines so please contact us if you need any help!

Great video ... thanks so much. I have cleaned the infuser before but not as thoroughly as in your video. My Magnifica ESAM 4400 makes great coffee but I do have a problem with it. Whenever the machine turns on, turns off, or is brewing, water also comes out of the frothing spout. Any idea what can be cleaned or replaced to correct this problem?

In my machine the piston of the infuser doesn't reach the upper position but stop at 3-4 millimiters from the top: the result is that a part of the coffee ground remain on the filter. Who know which is the problem?

Hello William! The brew unit being cleaned is completely necessary for the health of your machine. :-) It does need to be cleaned at least once a week in hot, soapy water. You can use dish soap, and just clean it by hand. Even if you only make about 3-4 cups a day we would still recommend to clean the brew unit at least every 1-2 weeks. As far as the transmission lubrication, this should be done when the machine starts "squeaking".

You were so kind to reply and I'll begin a more through cleaning process for my Gran Dama ESAM6700, My front door latch has stopped catching and holding the door closed. Is there a place online I can see how to disassemble the inner cover of the door to see what springs may be out of place ?? The 2 latch hooks move fine. They are just not under spring pressure.

Hello William. We are not sure where you might be able to find a video that shows how to disassemble the inner cover. For an issue like that, you would have to open the entire machine and we recommend having your machine checked out by a certified technician just because you have to take apart the whole machine.

Thank you so much for your support. With some perseverance, I was able to get it open and did figure out where the spring belonged. It is cleaned and food grade silicone greased per your video and back together and working just fine now. I still have a small drip or leak just inside the machine from the "infuser spout" after the coffee is made. I am still not sure of the cause. It is small leak, but an annoyance since it occasionally gets on the bottom of the cups and creates a ring where ever it sits. You've been kind with your time in responding. If you have any other ideas on things to check, I'll be very grateful. Thank you again. Bill

I use Xavax OKS 1110 on the infuser, however, I noticed that you used a different type of grease on the transmission to the food grade Haynes grease that you used on the infuser. More than likely the sleeve is very dirty. Try soaking it in warm water to loosen the coffee stuck inside, and that should solve the issue.

Great video but I get an issue with my machine after a deep clean. When I clean out the insides I usually sit the machine at an angle into to sink, I then use water to remove all the grounds from the internals and it runs out. However the first time I did a deep clean the machine refused to acknowledge the grounds tray was back in. I went through all sorts and eventually stripped the side panels of the machine to locate the microswitch with a view to replacing it. I decided that looked easy enough but reassembled it and left it over night. It worked in the morning and continued to do so for months, then came deep cleaning time and once again I get this issue, and now again tonight. It is a pain and I know the switch is there and now cover the switch hole with my finger... still does this to me. Is the switch really that sensitive? I cannot see that being the case! It's just contacts. Thoughts?

The sensor is getting wet when you are cleaning in the sink. Therefore, when it dries off it works the next day. To locate this sensor you need to remove bottom panel of the machine. Be careful when cleaning the machine. Hope this helps, otherwise feel free to call our office anytime.

Hello, thank you for your helpful video. I have a problem with my Magnifica where it only pours out probably 10% of coffee and it sounds normal when grinding the beans and making a cup of coffee as it always has. I descale the machine when required, water does come out of the milk frother and it goes to the entire descaling cycle, is there anything you recommend to check? I have opened the machine and checked for clogged lines but so far they all look good, no water is leaking and the infuser is moving as expected. Thank you.

Hey, nice video! I wanted to replace the 3 red seals on my magnifica ESAM4400. I changed/lubricated the ones in infuser, and also the one on the boiler. Now, I have problems: - rincing is slow, and most of water goes in the lower receiver...not in the glass :( - during coffee, no coffee leak, but it's slow, looks like pump has problems to push.... any ideas? thanks

BOOM! Followed your instructions, replaced all 3 O-rings, swooshed the lube around, and machine now sounds like a bean-to-cup (noisy) rather than a bridge collapsing. I wouldn't have dared remove the bit that holds the diffuser, but your video made it easy. A £7 kit has just extended the life of my £300 machine. Sincere thanks and best wishes.

Hello. If the slider is in the up position when you turn on the machine, or when the machine is off, the machine has to be serviced. If you turn it on and the slider goes to high it can break your machine and it will push against the transmission which will completely burn your main power board. We recommend getting service for this machine ASAP! Transmission & power board repair can be expensive, so we would really say get the machine serviced before anything else happens on the machine. DeLonghi's own instructions urge against using soap (as do, I think a number of coffee aficionados, who assert that the taste of soap will never come out of the infuser). What's your experience with regard to soap affecting the taste of the brew?

As long as the soap is mild and you're using just a bit, you should be able to wash out the taste. It is always recommended to use a espresso machine cleaner for best results though.

Hi, my infuser is stuck in the machine and won't reset. It did this under guarantee and DeLonghi fixed it in a way that made the machine make coffee again but I still couldn't remove the infuser to clean it. Any help appreciated!

If your infuser is stuck, you will need to have the machine serviced right away. The infuser pushing up against the machine could possibly break other parts inside such as the transmission. If you tried to reset and it did not work, it will need to be serviced by a trained DeLonghi technician. The infuser should be easy to remove for cleaning purposes. My infuser used to lock in place and would not unlock until the shutdown was completed correctly. Now its easy to remove the diffuser whilst the machine is still on. Is there a reason for this?

when I say lock I mean not the two red clicks, but the electronic lock that will only open when the machine turns off properly. At the moment the diffuser can be pulled out with the red buttons without the machine having to be turned off. Doesn't seem right to me

Hi, my mum has Delonghi MagnificaS. She's been descaling it properly, using filter in water tank and cleaning it overall whenever needed. 3 weeks ago she showed me, that it stopped making coffee. Water is moving through water spout, but doesn't go through infuser, so ends up all in leftover container. Seems like either infuser is somehow clogged or pressure is not high enough. She's in Estonia and machine was purchased from UK eBay seller as manufacturer refurbished over 2 years ago, so no warranty anymore. Before paying half of the price of machine for repair, my mum would like to open it and see if it's something, that can be done with help of KZbin videos... Which screwdriver does she need? And can you suggest what could be the problem?

all of the lights come on and flash and then they go off . I replug to initiate again, sometimes needing to this several times . Then if I am fortunate the brew unit, cleaned and new O rings and lubricated, travels up amd at the end makes a screeching noise. and then the two cup lights come on and the triangle light comes on. Then I have to start again. Any ideas on issue(s)?

Lights flashing indicate a "general alarm" meaning something is wrong with the espresso machine. Since there are so many components, it is hard to determine what the cause is without inspecting the machine thourougly. We are an authorized Delonghi Service Center so if you are in our work are the machine could come to us. If you have to ship it we usually have the machine in and out in no more than 1.5 week if we have all the parts in stock, which in ESAM3300 case we carry most of them.

Any idea how to reset the delonghi esam 5500? my brew unit crashed into the roof as it wasnt seat properly. engineer mode, all things work, including the movement of the brew unit - last time this happened they replaced the system board £170- i just want to reset it - it does its normal fire up checks then says 'general alarm' - are there sensors i can satisfy? £1100 to buy dead out of warranty :((

Hello Pete, Sounds like you are having a serious problem with your 5500. As far as resetting the board, I am not sure if that would help your issue, especially since the machine is having a "general alarm" message. With the general alarm message this just means that literally anything could be out of place inside of the machine. With that alarm, I would recommend having your machine serviced so the issue can be properly diagnosed. With that alarm message it is just too hard to tell without seeing/evaluating the machine what the underlying issue may be. Let us know if you have any other questions. You can also try contacting DeLonghi to see what your options are, or if there is a service center near you.

You can always sell the machine for parts and put it toward a new one, if repairs do not work out for you.

Hi Martin, your transmission needs to be lubricated as soon as possible. Your machine is in need of a tune-up. We recommend sending your espresso machine to an authorized repair center to complete the cleaning and tune-up of the transmission. If your machine is leaking during descaling, this means you have a bigger issue. Your boiler could be leaking, or it could even be the pump. When the machine starts to leak during descaling this is caused by the descale solution eating away at the holes the lime has caused in your boiler, pipes, etc. I would recommend having your machine taken into a repair shop.
