Thanks. Seafoam was the other suggestion, but this one worked really well. Even an occasional popping backfire from exhaust is gone now. I'll use it going forward.

I think the floats in my v star are sticking could i do this to clean that area? Plus clean the jets while in at it. Why can't you touch the float? Thanks for any help
@fixiteasy9080 Жыл бұрын
The floats are set specifically to hold the needle in place with right amount of pressure. I find removing the float and the needle without taking the whole carb assembly out very difficult and I would likely bend the float tabs that hold the needles. If bent, then it'll likely either not let fuel through the bowls, or not stop fuel when bowl is full. And either will cause your fuel system not working right. If you think there's an issue with the floats, you might be better off taking the whole carb assembly out. The video is posted specifically for idle jet related issues. Hope this helps.

How did you get out the stripped screws? Same issue. Assuming its same as any other stripped ...

The factory should have used the allen head screws...the phillips are terrible to simply unscrew...several of mine stripped BUT i finally got them all out and will replace with allen head

Great video! I am watching because any time i slightly touch the throttle with the choke on the RPMs go crazy high. My 650 also takes forever to warm up, think these are fuel system/carb related issues?
@fixiteasy90804 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Sounds like it is carb related. Good news is, it's not that difficult to clean the jets, and worst case, you need a whole carb clean up, which is much better than replacing parts or systems in my opinion.

I don't think there's anyone out there using a vehicle with a carburetor never needed to do something similar to this 🤣 ...but, I believe using ethanol free gas, and keeping the tank debris and rust free helps the most along with using good gas filters.

Do you know what size the screws are you purchased. I stripped two of mine but cannot find the size

I don't. I took one of them with me to the store. They have guides/templates you can try to find the size there.

Best advice to remove the stripped screw?
@fixiteasy90803 жыл бұрын
If the screw had is still on, a not too dip slit cut with a Dremel tool or a small metal saw usually works for me. That usually allows a flat head screw driver to get a bite and start turning the screw. Sometimes a very small vice grip might also work if you have one and have a bit of space around. If the screw head is off, you might try a screw extractor bit. If all fails, then I usually drill it out and put a new tap on. Good Luck.

Thanks for this useful video ! The problem that I have with my motorbike is that I can’t reach more than 75 m/h. If I clean the iddles jet this will improve ? Thanks in advance for your comments...Regards. Alberto ,
@fixiteasy90806 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, Thanks. For the speed, I never had any issues 75 or more, so I can't say if there was any difference before or after I cleaned up the jets. Hoping someone else can comment on that. I'll also look up to see what might cause that.

I've seen on other videos that they remove the gas tank. Did you have to remove yours? my bike starts with the choke out and once I push it back in it turns off. I'm planning on doing this myself before taking it to the shop. I live in LA and they are charging me $450.00 to clean the carb. Thanks.
@fixiteasy90806 жыл бұрын
I wasn't cleaning the whole carbs assembly, so I didn't remove the seat initially, but ended up removing both the tank and the seat and it's not that difficult to remove them. I wouldn't remove the whole carbs assembly though. I removed the carb heads/lids and didn't mess with anything else. I'm thinking you might want to try this first and clean the jets as well as possible and if still having the same issue, then you might do a whole carb clean up. You might also try adjusting the idle screw. It's the phillips head screw at the end of the black flexible hose in front of the left carb. you can see it at the video when I'm pointing out to the 4 screws on the lid. Good luck...

@jonathanvillalba32143 жыл бұрын
Yes. The shop i took my 650 to get tires changed notice the same issue and told me the jet shown on this vidoe cold be the issue. I was not aware idle speed screw was an option. I might do this before doing a whole carb clean up

Hey Jason, I don't unfortunately. I took one to Home Depot and it was easy to find exact match. They had sample nuts as well, so you know exactly the diameter and the thread. 8 of them cost like $4.

I used a dremel tool to make a straight cut across the screw head deep enough for a flat head screw driver could get a firm bite. I replaced them all with hex screws so I wouldn't have that issue again.

So what if mine wont even idle ? At wide open its fine... when a let off its backfires like an old civil war movie, and then dies....
@fixiteasy90804 жыл бұрын
I would still try and clean the jets first and see if worked, and if not, you'll need to take the carbs off and get them fully cleaned and rebuilt.

@@jonathanvillalba3214 Like many other vehicles, the original parts, cleaned or rebuild, is a much better option then buying a new part in my opinion. will this also fix if u have a stuck float
@fixiteasy90806 жыл бұрын
I didn't touch the floats, but you'd have access to them once the lids are out. If you think the floats are stuck, then you can try to spray some carb cleaner to the little pins that hold the floats and gently move them a bit.
