I have been dumping everything into 99% isopropyl alcohol. My GTX1080 marinated in it and it's working great. Got to skip this years silicon shortages. I also do it for keyboards, mice any hardware. It evaporates fast so nuke everything with high pressure air to knock the gunk out. Do that before it's fully evaporated. **Just don't turn it on before it evaporates.**

Need some help with this, so if it’s 99% isopropyl alcohol it won’t damage the mother board parts etc? Will the moisture remove thermal paste/any glues?
@obe22099
@obe22099 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlbertPuljos You would need to do it manually to do it right. The alcohol will make it easier. The best use for this is to remove organic gunk. Most of the dust indoors is dead skin.

Never fill your ultrasonic cleaner this low, never put parts to be cleaned straight in so they touch the tub. This will ruin your tub, ruin the ultrasonic transducer and ruin your parts. Use the cleaner's basket (parts to be cleaned should never touch the actual tub), and fill according to manual - or you *_drastically_* shorten the lifespan of every part involved. If you wanna save on PCB cleaning agent and distilled/deionised water consumption, then fill the tub correctly with distilled or quality deionised water, insert the machine's basket, then place a smaller, sturdy glass/pyrex container in the basket. Pour your water/detergent mix and parts to be cleaned, into that smaller glass/pyrex container. For water, you can scoop that from the cleaner's tub, that way the displacement of the smaller glass/pyrex container won't cause the cleaner's tub to overflow. This way, how much PCB detergent you need and the contaminants from the cleaning process, will be limited to that smaller glass/pyrex container. You save on consumables, and you won't need to clean the ultrasonic tub as often. Remember to cover the ultrasonic bath between use, that will limit evaporation from the tub, and keep dust and other environmental contaminants from getting into the tub. This becomes more important when reducing the frequency of maintenance from draining the main tub to clean it.

What cleaner can be used? I use Bronson EC But that requires a mixture with distilled water. The video shows just a cleaning agent.
@pr0xZen
@pr0xZen 3 жыл бұрын
@@AJayMustang Branson EC is more than adequate for this use. This kind of ultrasonic cleaning is what it (Branson EC) is specifically made for. What's being used in the video is most likely just a jug with premixed water and a PCB cleaning agent (like Branson EC, Tierra Tech Electro etc). If you find distilled water to be cost prohibitive in your region, you can use (osmosis) deionised water. Often sold as "battery water" for lead-acid batteries in automotive supplies stores. For this kind of use, that will do just fine. If you have a largre tub ultrasonic cleaner but mostly only clean small boards and parts, and you need to conserve the PCB detergent - you can fill the tub up as normal with _only_ deionised water, put the cleaner's basket in, premix water and detergent in a bottle/jug. Then get a smaller, sturdy glass/pyrex container, put that in the basket, only fill that smaller glass/pyrex container up with the premix. Then put the parts to be cleaned in there. Keeps the detergent use and the cleanup, confined to inside that smaller container.

Cheaper transducers don’t output much Watts per Liter. This way lower solution is more effective than filling to a max line. Most of the solution is also covering the area the transducer emitting the frequency. Definitely use the basket!

Becoming a preferred method, Low energy Plasma cleaning is a process of using plasma energy to clean and modify the surface of a substrate like a circuit board assembly. It is a highly effective surface cleaning and treatment process before application of conformal coatings and is gaining more popularity due its highly effective performance. No liquid immersion and known damage to occur to sensitive board components compared to using ultrasound.

Low energy plasma and vapor degreasers are reserved for large scale r&d and industrial. The low cost of U.C make it viable to the target audience of this channel and field. Plus I’d rather have a small footprint Ultrasonic Cleaner than a 6Ft $5,000 Plasma cleaner.

Distilled (or high quality deionised) water. If it's approved for lead-acid batteries, it's fine for ultrasonic cleaning (and watercooling). A made-for-purpose ultrasonic PCB cleaning agent can be a good additive, just be aware that it requires a heated bath for good results - roughly around ~48-55°C. Branson EC is a good agent popular in North America, but not easily available in some other markets. In my market (Scandinavia, non EU) I use Tierra Tech Electro. If you contact an industry equipment and chemicals supplier/specialist for electronics manufacturing, rework and repair in your region, they should be able to hook you up or point you in the right direction. And FFS. DO NOT fill your cleaner as low as this, and DO NOT put electronics straight into the tub like this. It will ruin your tub, the cleaner's transducer and your electronics. If you wanna save on the water and detergent, fill it up as normal with distilled/deionised water, use the machine's basket. Then place the things to be cleaned in a smaller, sensibly solid glass or pyrex container, fill THAT with water and appropriate PCB detergent/cleaner, and set that container in the ultrasonic basket so it's immersed fairly well. Ultrasonic waves will pretty much go straight through glass. You can in theory use plastic, but there's a lot of caveats - one of them is that it will float. Doing it this way, the gunk and contaminants coming off the electronics won't contaminate the water in the machine's larger tub - only within that glass container. And if any components or joints are so bad that they come off during cleaning, you'll see it/them more easily on the bottom of your small(er) glass container.

@@pr0xZen wouldn't water cause all kinds of damage and corrosion? If not, why do peeps use IPA instead of water for standard PCB cleaning?
@pr0xZen
@pr0xZen 3 жыл бұрын
@@southerncharity7928 it's distilled or deionised water. And of course you need to fully dry it before doing any work on it (or water under chips can boil and popcorn the chip), or using it. Common way to do this is submerge and slosh it in a container with 99/100% IPA. To displace the water. Then let the IPA vaporize cleanly for 30 minutes-1hr ambient, 10-15 heated to 80°C in convection oven or 5-10 really close to a strong fan.
