This could be a nice pedal for a solo low down on the neck. You could call it the SoloBooster.

Interesting experiment, with an insightful commentary for tinkerer guitarists who like to twiddle knobs and experiment with different sound contours. Hearing the outputs while watching the oscilloscope traces gives us a better idea of what "works", and why. Now, which configuration will make my guitar sound like Jimi Hendrix's on "Voodoo Chile Slight Return"? Just kidding....

probably easier achieved with the octave fuzz if I can ever get that project finalized.

You could have split the emitter resistor in to two and bypassed one with a cap to give you more gain if needed. Could have got close to 400x if bypassed completely. Still nice to see single transistor circuits being used, we could have done the same with just a A2D, a micro and a D2A and some code, shows how far we have come. Several thousand transistors to replace one 😂😅😊

I think the main reason the boost circuits don’t use emitter bypass for more gain is because then it gets into becoming distortion or fuzz instead of a more clean amplification boost. I wonder how a Darlington transistor would function in the single transistor gain stage. I need to try some JFet circuits along the way as well. No sense having all these things sitting on the shelf for decades. Except PNP, them and their backwards flowing electrons can stay up there over the workbench.

@@GadgetReboot I expect the Darlington would just hit the rails with a much lower input level, due the very high gain. Never looked in what type of distortion a fuzz unit makes. I've seen diodes used to provide some form of non linearity on the signal. but from a single transistor i would expect just hitting the rails to form a squaring of the signal. Now I'm going to have too look at some circuits. I always had to keep the distortion low under all conditions including conducted, and radiated RF emissions. 😞

I don’t miss the days swapping 0402 L C pi filter parts for days while trying to get 2.405 to 2.480 GHz down within compliance levels in the harmonics…. yeah fuzz is very square. I’m surprised it still sounds like a guitar rather than a 555
