Something that's helped me with having too many books is to starting using Libby, audiobooks, and the library specifically for books I know I will never read again. Self help books, celeb memoirs and 3-star seasonal reads are a large portion of that category for me. It's great bc you get the enjoyment of the read without having to figure out what to do with it afterwards, and it's a massive $ & space saver. If I find a book I love and feel like re-reading it in the future, only then will I spring for the physical copy.

Libraries are great for sure! I am definitely a collector though, so I do enjoy having so many books 😂 Also unfortunately my access to English books locally would be very limited.

I'm watching this instead of cleaning. I have been working for 3 years to get rid of stuff, one year before moving and now it's two years after moving and I still need to improve it and for my library I frequently think of just unhauling a bunch of unread books and starting over with my TBR. I hope you have an easier time, I am also trying to tell myself it is okay to not be perfect and to take things slowly. Hope this helps you too. Happy holidays.

This has been fascinating. I had no idea people shelved books by color. They do look lovely, but they must all be one genre to be able to do that. I have dozens of categories of books, so will have to shelve them that way. I watched a video about "decorating" a built-in large bookcase. She placed several books flat here and there and put her decor piece on top of them. Plants were a great addition also. Don't know if you have room for that, but it did look very nice. I wish i could organize my books! I love that activity, and seeing the end result, even if it does aggravate my pain. But I keep having to move these last few years, and not only is packing 1700 books SO much work, but I was worried about damaging them coming in and out of boxes. Plus, I was losing the joy that is arranging shelves. So until we are settled, I do not even get to see all my pretty books. Love the end result of your work!

I end up hyperfixating on things too and get caught up on them until I find a solution. It can be a curse. I will be definitely checking out that Self Help book that you said really set you up for self help. I got Atomic Habits from your recommendation. You actually got me to love YA and it has become my #1 read genre and my favorite =) I love the fact that you recognized that if you were to do an additional task, such as dusting, that it would keep you from reaching your goal so you kept from doing it. That doesn't make you lazy and you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Not doing extra tasks so that you can reach your goal is always okay. I love your background rotation on your computer. You have inspired me to work on my place today not only to get it together so that I can feel good about the state of my place but to also help me be in a better place mental health wise. Alphabetize the books by authors, ditch the color order, and I only keep hard cover books now.

Came across your channel accidentally - I think your room looks GREAT!! 🥰💕I'm not sure if you ever use the library (for the days when you might be short on ca$h or aren't sure if you actually want to buy) I actually have a small portion of my bookshelf exclusively for Library Books that I borrowed, so they don't get lost amongst my books. 📖📚And of course a TBR-in-the-very-near-future-shelf (because realistically half my library IS TBR) LOL 📚📚 And don't worry about not being 100% satisfied with the organization of your books - your preference for what to have front and center or nearby will change over time, and sometimes even revert back to what you had at one time. I think its just a function of being a bibliophile - we just love to handle our books, and reorganization allows us to do that without appearing to fondle them 😜🤣 This is what I've been doing for over three decades, and it just gives me some satisfaction to know that books that I love are getting attention now and then. I'm in the middle of my fourth iteration of reorganizing since the pandemic - partly because my library expanded so much over the last few years. Next time I believe I will try to organize my books by color like you did - it seems very artistic and satisfying. Thank you for the video!!!

I was totally thinking from a video awhile ago that you might focus a bit better with having an office as a specific place to ‘work’, and now you being on the couch makes sense! I 100% get what you’re saying about the desk. Could you rotate it 90 degrees and change your view? It’s hard to tell the depth of the room but maybe the one side across the centre wouldn’t be too bad? I move furniture when I’m feeling restless, lol. 😂

I tried the color scheme for my books but i didn't like it actually because it will mix tge books genres so i returned the original organization which is First name author and title by genres, that's this is the best way to find and count how much books i have from every genres and buying the missing when needed to fill my bookshelves.

It was a few years back, but i was so so stocked when i saw at which thrift store you went! 😅 i lived there for 20 years, I'm now in the Bas-St-Laurent region but i come to visit my family every three months 😊 i really hope you are more okay living in Québec, i know it is hard to be far from your family and your childhood city ❤ if you ever wanna do something while I'm in the city, you can hit me up!
