I’m purging my house for an entirely different reason than you are! My husband and I are in our early 70’s. We’ve been married for 53 years, we’ve lived in the same house for 35 years and raised our kids here. When my parents died and when his mom died it was up to us to clean out their houses. What a job!! When we’re gone I want to make it as easy for our kids as we can! Besides after 35 years in this house we need to purge!!

Thank you for talking about your thought process when decluttering. We recently moved and I declutterred and I am still decluttering so many things. I had bins and bins of blankets and towels and party supplies that I have accumulated over the years. I was holding on to so much for "sentimental" reasons like blankets and sheets that my aunt gave me and she is no longer with us. I had to take a long hard look at what I actually need/use and pretty much none of it has ever been needed or used. So since I cannot take it with me when I die I do not need these things. Donations are important to me since homeless people really need blankets and clothes. I actually cried thinking about how I will never have these things again but in the end it feels so freeing to have less unnecessary items in the house. I am trying to have the mentality that instead of buying more bins and storage boxes to organize I just need less stuff to organize. I love seeing your journey and how I can relate. It makes me feel less alone. One love 💚

Also, I am such a what if type of person. Definitely had the what if thoughts on the blankets. Like what if the power is out and we need the extra warmth or what if there is company over and they need a blanket or sheets or towels and what if.... Girl we will manage just fine. Everything will work itself out. That's literally the conversation in my head lol

I just stumbled across you this morning and am so happy that I did! I am a self admitted clutter bug and am trying so hard to declutter our home. My husband likes tidy and I try hard for him but still struggle. Now that I am off work for a bit to recover from foot surgery, and once I am able to walk more easily, that is my goal to “put our home right”. I love how “real” you are and that you don’t get all made up and perfect to be on camera. @calliebrockett91812 жыл бұрын
As someone who just moved this summer, I completely agree!! Moving and packing always seems so so stressful. With my situation, we took possession of our home a month before our lease on the rental house was up so we were able to get so much done! There was no big rush and we had to build a fence around our back yard before we could move in so our dogs had a yard; so while my husband focused on the fence I was able to pack room by room and take items to the house that we didn't necessarily need for daily living. It made our big move with the furniture so much easier because Holiday decor and extra towels and backstock food items were moved like 1-3 weekends before our big big moved. Good luck on your declutter journey though! I can't wait to watch the process! 🌻🧡 -Love from Kansas

Hi Jamie, I'm usually a silent viewer but I finally decided to write a comment and tell you that your channel really is a safe space for me. I'm 25 years old and still in education studying law. I'm still living with my parents while building my first own home with my boyfriend of 5 years. We're hoping to move in some time in autum/winter of 2023. Your videos give me so much inspiration and so many ideas what I want to do in my first own home. And I'm so excited for your moving vlogs!! My high point of last week was the yearly autumn fair in my city and the good time I spent there with my friends. My (kind of) low point is that last week was the last week of the semester break. Tomorrow my lectures start again. But I'm happy to have in person lectures again. So that's only a half-low point of the week. 😅 Anyways, thanks for sharing your videos!! I hope you have a great week! Greetings from Germany! 😇✨

Hey! I’m so thrilled to see you starting to purge for the move! I am so excited for you and your family, my husband and I are considering building in the new year and so I’ve been sharing with him the things you’ve mentioned about building and the process, you’ve shared, we would both love to see a video once your moved in and settled that shares more details, but totally understand if that’s just not something you’re comfortable with. I’m kind of a new mom still I have a 5 month old, 3 year old, and a 5 year old all boys, so I really love seeing the perspective you give as a girl mom vs being a boy mom myself, my kids are young and we’re starting to run into the same dilemma of the 3 year old messing up the 5 year olds room, so I loved reading the insight other parents gave you and seeing I’m not alone on not having a clue what to do about this 🤦🏽♀️ My friends have made me feel like it’s a no brainer, that the 3 year old should clean up his mess, but my 5 year old is very particular about his room, so it made it a larger issue for me than I guess they thought it was 😅 I absolutely love all of your videos and getting to peak into your real life and be able to relate to it!

Ten years ago we moved house just before Christmas. I just thought I'd tell you some things that really helped us stay sane. Like you, we got a storage unit. One of the first things. I decluttered and packed were the Christmas decorations and tree. I covered the boxes with idiot proof labels and they went to storage.i also bought and wrapped as many of the gifts we needed, put them in boxes, added the idiot proof labels and off to storage they went. I also had a book with lots of Christmas lists in food, treats all kinds of things as I thought of them and bought them so that when we had moved, Christmas could come out of storage and was ready to go and I wasn't having to think about and organise Christmas as well as a move. I also did a reverse calendar for the last 3 weeks with items to be packed that day (I think I began with best china or glasses - loosely in 'we won't need that in this house again ' order. I was very grateful for having packed up a first night bag. On moving day I looked round, booked a hotel and went to the car due to overwhelm. I had so much more enthusiasm next day after a nice dinner, good sleep and breakfast. Sorry to ramble on. Just ideas for you.x

I live in the Midwest too but I am in Indiana close to Chicago. We leave blankets in our vehicle, we have blankets for outside sports, we have blankets for snow days, plus we don't put on our heat till mid November so all the extra blankets are fabulous. There was a time when we had an ENORMOUS amount of blankets so what I did was keep them in my car and in the winter when I seen a homeless person outside I would go in my trunk and give them a blanket. It felt better to know someone had it rather than donate it. I don't comment much but I loved this topic. PHENOMENAL VIDEO Jamie

It is funny that you mentioned thinking about whether you would need the extra blankets for slumber parties, etc. because that exact thought went through my head when I decluttered my linen closet last weekend. I also questioned myself for keeping too many extra sheets because I literally wash the sheets and put them right back on the bed. I do keep sheets for when the kids need to take a set of sheets to camps and things and a sheet to take to the beach but I don't need multiple sets for the beds we sleep in. I didn't get rid of them all but I did declutter a lot of extra comforters and sheet sets and it felt great! I always enjoy your show and thank you so much for the cleaning and decluttering motivation!

We moved a couple years ago into our first home that we actually own. Our previous rental house didn't have a linen closet so we had to get creative with storage. Our new house has one bathroom upstairs with a linen closet in the hallway and another bathroom downstairs with another linen closet in the family room on the other side of the wall from the bathroom. We turned our downstairs linen closet into a board game closet since it is in the family room and are using the upstairs one to store bedding and towels/ wash cloths. We keep one full spare set of bedding for each bed except my youngest who has 2 spare sets from his potty training years (he's almost 7 now). For towels I have two towels and 4 wash cloths for each person in my house that are all "their color" so there is no question which towel or wash cloth belongs to who and then we have a few spare "just in case" random towels and then beach towels. 😉

Wow! Fantastic decluttering. I loved how your linen closet turned out. When I saw all the goodies on the floor I felt so stressed for you. If I had done that I would’ve wanted to run away but at the same time get it done because you know it will be worth it in the end. It’s really nice to share this house moving experience with you, and it’s exciting. I feel excited for you all 😊 our weather is pretty much the same as yours at the moment; it’s freezing in the morning and then warm later in the day with the sun out. I actually tried to get my house cleaned yesterday and the hardest part of our house is the bathroom - we suffer from limescale here in the South-East of UK and it can take an hour 😒 then that evening I got ill. So now I’m relaxing and watching your video, but feeling like death 🤒 in regards to blankets and towel quantities… I’m usually a 2 of everything gal. Apart from kitchen rags and dish towels (plenty of those) 😉

On our hands and knees, scrubbing floors and toilets and all that. Now that I’m an adult, that has passed on to me now too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a slob but cleaning is so therapeutic for me and I love doing it once I get started, and I think that’s thanks to my mom for teaching me so young.

We moved in to a new house just over a year ago, and I did a lot of decluttering before, during and after the move. You've motivated me to further pare down my towels, sheets and blankets! Thank you! 😊

I am not a parent but I understand why parents asked me to help me around the house and clean my room. But I wouldn't say you are bad parent. You are teaching your wonderful girls how to delcutter with out your videos and learning how organize from the people around in an easy manner. It also teaches them time management and planning their schedule. I am still learning how to clean and cook still from my parents, grandparents and people who spealize in cleaning and organize my house and schedule.

You know I've always said that if we even question as a parent whether we're doing the right thing or not that just means that we are a good parent and that we care enough to even second-guess ourself it's when we don't do that that that is a whole other story so I think you are doing a great job

I'm a minimalist and I don't keep alot extra. But like you said in an emergency use the beach towels. You get creative. I have one extra sheet set per size bed. Twin full king. I have a couple guest towels but we each have our own towel it's colored and we just hang them up and reuse them.

I really enjoyed this video. I don't keep any extra blankets, sheets etc. at all. I stopped having extras many years ago because it was just taking up space. I also learned just because I have the space doesn't mean I should fill it up with stuff I hardly ever use.

I keep our sheets inside the storage bench at the end of our bed, and then we have a small linen closet in our bathroom and a large linen closet in the hall for the kid's bedrooms, but I've gotten rid of a LOT of linens recently. I decided to keep two sets of linens for the kids and any throw blankets they're attached to. They each have a set of towels, too, and then our beach towels.

One spare set sheets per bed. You could put a bin in the closet of each bedroom w sheets for that room. Then extra "general/generic blankets" and beach towels could go in linen closet in new house.

Hi Jamie I found that this cleaner, “Wet and Forget”is an awesome cleaner. Just spray shower or tub once a week then spray down the next day with hot water. It is amazing how much easier I found to help keep the tubs and showers clean. There is some closets in my home that need decluttering. I have been procrastinating.😕

I have two plastic bins, one for old towels and one for old sheet sets. Towels I use for dirtier jobs that come up and we cut some of them up for dirty jobs in the garage, and, etc. Sheets I use the sheets to cover furniture, etc., if we are painting or doing work on the house to protect our things. I also use flat sheets to cover the beds when I am doing deep cleaning in the bedrooms, because I use the beds, not the floors to put things on. Same with cleaning from top to bottom, it keeps the dust off the beds.

I didn't watch last week, but you are absolutely doing a good job from what Is shared here. One thing kids need to understand is just because they didn't make a mess does not make them exempt from cleaning it. Just like you and Mike are responsible for the home and all that goes with it. For example when the kids make a mess...its not like you leave the mess for them to clean Just like Avery is responsible for her room regardless if she made the mess or not. You are teaching her life lessons that unfortunately in this day and age is not valued. Again great job doing all that you do

If you ever do have a major spill, or minor flooding, and don't have enough towels, you can put some in the spin cycle of the washer to get most of the water out and reuse them. It's not ideal but helps in an emergency. We did this when we went through a hurricane at my grandma's on the beach. It was the smallest type luckily but we had to soak up the water that was coming in and kept wringing them out in the washer.

I love what you’re doing! For some reason, your voice over calming me down. Extra? One extra for everyone on the household… that’s what I do. We used to live in apartment and laundry was made outside so I had one pair of sheets for each week of the month… towels etc cause I wouldn’t know if with the craziness of our life I could do the laundry each week. So all that is extra but it make sense for me cause I don’t have to wait for the dryer in order to get done with each bedroom…

Am so happy that you took what I said as something not negative because last week was the first time I ever wrote advice on any post or video because I hate to judge or criticise anyone because everyone is different and we all do things our own way and dont deserve to be judged for how we live and do things in our lives, but I only did because you asked for advice and I am so happy you took it as helpful and not criticism ❤️ thankyou for your motivation today I definitely need some! @@JamiesJourney oh I am so happy! I didn't want you too think bad of anything I put, parenting is hard and everyday throws different things at us and its hard to know what's the right thing to do sometimes so if we can help each other out its great, we all need support as parents, my oldest is autistic and he's great now but some days are more difficult than others but we do our best!❤️

You do such an amazing job cleaning , you’re very thorough, I like how you are REAL: and not afraid to show your messes. I DID think negative thoughts about this at first( I’m NOT always a nice person btw), BUT I looked at myself and realised that hey; we all get into messes , i do have a tip that I hope is ok to add here, ( it’s always a good idea to wear rubber gloves whilst cleaning with chemicals etc, it also stops the wear and tear on your hands.

For our 2.5 year old son we keep 4 fitted sheets and 2 comforters in case he gets sick (we have had nights he throws up so much and fights us we were down to the last clean sheet). For us we have 2 fitted sheets and 2 comforters so that I can put the clean set on when I wash the other set. Towels we have 4 towels that my husband and I use, 2 towels for my son and several old towels for when I dye my hair or someone makes a mess we need to clean up.
