Biggest take-away: one must constantly declutter and organize . The open jars of peanut butter are the best example as to why you need to be on top of the pantry. Family members will just open another jar if they can't find the already open jar. Loved your video! Who doesn't love a good before and after?!

I buy onions in bulk, chop them up to a smallish dice, measure out 1C portions (that's about 1/2 of an average-sized yellow, vidalia, or texas sweet), put them in freezer bags, and freeze them. They keep just fine for a few months... Maybe longer. We use them up pretty quickly. Great spot to put them? The decommissioned ice maker bin of a fridge that you've rotated to the laundry room/pantry/garage. I can get a ton in our old ice bin! I do the same with shallots, but the cut is a very fine dice, and I put 1 shallot worth in each bag. Garlic is minced, suspended in olive oil, in a mason-type jar, and is in the fridge. Frozen alliums don't come back exactly like when they were fresh, so I only use them in things I'm cooking, such as pasta sauce, casseroles, even smothered burgers. If I actually need a crisp, fresh onion (extremely rare - my family members are almost all sensitive to raw onion), or I want to make something like carmelized strings of onion, I just buy and use up those as needed.

I had to laugh about finding your slow cooker lid. I lost the lid to one of my favorite casserole dishes several years ago. I thought I must have left it at church and someone accidentally picked it up. I looked EVERYWHERE. When my mother passed, I was helping my dad clean out the house, and lo and behold, the lid for my casserole dish was in one of their cabinets. 😂 I guess I left it during the holidays, and my mom stuck it in with her stuff. It was really funny, and a relief! Lol I store my onions in the fridge. Cold onions don't make you cry nearly as much. 😊 I do have a working pantry that I cook out of in addition to a larger storage area like you do. It makes it so much easier!

In my home, we go completely through our pantries every 3 months, and pull everything that has a "best by" or expiration date coming up in the next 3 months. Today is the day!! July 1, we are pulling everything with dates through Sept 30. Those items go into a cute bin on the kitchen counter, and each kid needs to come up with a meal idea to use up some of the items. Last go-round we were just left with some bottles of hot sauce and some random spices. Works like a charm! Love your channel!

For storing onions, garlic, and potatoes: I repurposed Topo Chico 12pack boxes. Poked air holes on all sides, lined the bottom with paper towels, and added labels on the outside. The boxes fit perfect on the IKEA pantry shelving. Plus, the boxes can hold a lot of weight, keep my veggies out of light, and have handles for easy moving. So far, they work great!

When i bring cans and packages home from the store, i use a black sharpie to mark the month and year on the tops and front so they are easy to keep in "older/newer" date order. some of the pre-printed dates are small, faded, and hidden in crazy places! the prepping really saves me time in re-sorting and meal preparation.

I'm so determined to have the amount of shelving space you have. I disturbed my fella to tell him what I'd like to have. He wasn't as excited as me. You have done fantastic! Motivated me too! Years ago, I read to store onion in a paper bag inside the refrigerator. I did it when I only bought a few. I changed to a basket on my cement floor- onions love cool, dark and air flow. Garlic is best stored on your counter- room temp, but not near direct sunlight. The biggest tip is not to store onions near potatoes. All sorts of goodies I've learned over the years.

I love watching your videos. I store my onions in knee high stockings from the dollar tree, in a way you would a sausage , then hang them. Out pantry needs a good clean out and organize. I have been disabled since 2014. I like watching these videos… yet they make me miss the days of being physically able to marathon clean on my own, without asking for assistance from hubby or my son, having such little stamina is rough to accept, after all this time I still don’t want to accept this reality. Never take physical ability for granted….Life can bring the unexpected. I have so much organization I want to do around the house. But, I am unable to do it without help. I’m grateful to have the help, I miss very much being able to do it all by myself. I once was a very independent person. It’s not an easy thing to accept.
