Jiji is a show cocker spaniel who has been enjoying some down time. It's time to get her all groomed up and start rolling her coat back into the shape. After all, the shows should open eventually, and prepping a hand strip coat is not a one day task. She feels so good after her groom, she goes start to finding something smelly to roll in. Oh, Jiji.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear you can't find a groomer! I wish I could direct you to a houston groomer who strips, but I can't think of anyone who does that in the houston area. If someone pops up, I'll be sure to share with you. For now, grab yourself a rake and rake through that back coat. It will give you a head start and bulk down some of the fuzziness.

Can I ask, where is the tube connected, that you are making it into a wee hot tub? I know it helps to push the shampoo or conditioner threw that thick coat. I would like to know what tool/machine is it please. I am from Ireland but maybe I can find something similar.

I’m sorry I just don’t understand why they can’t just shave the dog down the back I have two cocker spaniels and I like mine done that way I know it’s not the professional show dog way but it just seems like Takes a long time to take the blade down the back over and over and over and I feel sorry for the poor dogs back being sore after you’re done

Shaving the back would end up causing a different texture which would make the coat unsuitable to work for hunting/retrieving, which is what they were bred for. That nice texture protects the dogs skin. Having texture vs a soft coat also helps repel environmental hazards from collecting and making the dog stink or collecting germs that cause skin infections. It doesn't hurt, what I'm doing is pulling out the dead hair that has reached the end of it's life cycle. This lowers the shedding, improves skin exfoliation, as well as spread their natural oils throughout their body to help keep a healthy skin and coat. It is faster to just clip a coat and is done for most pet cockers. But since she is a show gal, and the household enjoys the health benefits that come with it, she will be stripped for some time yet. She will let us know when it's time to start clipping the coat. A dog's health is always our #1 concern.

@@Dognormousllc I've seen your videos and another groomer for show dogs, and I am just learning about the coat stripping, and not shaving the back like my other cockers were done, I didn't know it protected their skin to do it "right". I have a new cocker pup coming into my life in a couple weeks. I just found a new recommended groomer...are there interview questions I should ask them or any other groomer before I take my girl to them? I want that show dog look...with full skirt, etc. I have, in the past, left the skirt but in the summers had them shave her belly (my former girl) to help cool that but her chest and skirt were there ....is that a good idea or bad?
