Yup! True at home, true in stores. I work in a grocery store and any flat surface with empty space ppl will start dumping stuff there more and more. So a stack of soda bottles in layers, the top layer have just a few bottles left things will start to be left there. No putting it back, no handing it off to cashiers just Dumped. Or my biggest pet peeve, showed in empty space at check out along the check-out conveyour belt with all the candy and electronics sold there. Especially things that need be kept Cold as not only are they creating a unneeded messy look as the last view for customers after them but making us throw away food needlessly. Just hand it off to the cashier we really don’t mind you changing your mind about buying something. I degress… I got inspired from this vid, many ideas bubbling as my home tend to in circles of messy &tidy and things just being forgotten and not seen until a good while later.

Agree 💯. The more I declutter the more productive and calmer I feel in all areas of my life. I have implemented so many of your tips into my regular routine since I started watching your videos a month ago and I am so happy with my progress. 💛 Thank you for all of your positive motivation and great ideas and advice. ✋🫶

“As easy to put away as to leave out” is my ultimate goal. Totally get it with the mixer attachment- our brains subconsciously know that it isn’t as easy as putting it in a draw so while it might only take seconds to put away, we still get these little mental hurdles we’d rather avoid. I’m trying to be more conscious of these little mental avoidances and addressing them where I can.

Hey Kallie! I felt so validated when you mentioned that things getting cluttered is normal after having a newborn (or something to that affect!). Just had a baby and put her down and am tackling the mountain of laundry that I keep folding and my other kids keep knocking down when they’re awake 😬 it’s like 10 pm here so they’re asleep. Thanks for ‘seeing’ me and basically letting me know it’s okay. It’s definitely a season. I could totally benefit from a ‘how to clean when you have a baby and little help’ video. I love watching your videos when I fold laundry! I hope y’all are doing well ❤️

Considering my room is basically....all surface clutter.. floor/non functioning lil tables with piles of clean laundry, mail, studybooks, files, halloween decorations to put up, new toys for my fishies, I needed this 🥺 your sweater in the first clip is my favorite color and it looks stunning, motivates me with the rest of the video to clean and clear my physical/visual/mental space 💫💙

The task before a task one always gets me. In general I try to never leave a room empty handed so things at least get back to the room they need to be in but boy do surfaces catch clutter easily. Great video!

Your video's have really got me started on a life changing journey. While my house is still a major work in progress, it has made huge strides. I also hit a "sick wall" and fell off the wagon for almost a month till things leveled out. Since then I have manages to address every room to a manageable level and can get back to tackling my little projects to declutter areas that are in need of help. Its SO much easier to spend a little time every day and about an hour on the weekend to manage the storm rather then let it go and than scramble to clean in up in a few days before an event.

Thank you for explaining that little bit of science behind what clutter can do to your mind... I feel like a lot of things are avoided in my house because it just seems too big. It increases my anxiety and then when you explained about the poor sleep overeating and more anxiety like those are just checking off boxes and I am a "why" person so I like to try to know the why behind things and that just gives me motivation to start tackling it because it should improve my mental health greatly!

I SO ADORE that there is still a single floor sock in the kitchen "After". Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful! Kallie, you're a Constant Source of Inspiration and Mom Energy❣️❣️❣️ PS, my "free time" is Far Too Valuable for chores, so, yeah, gotta schedule it and remember to do my Victory Lap! Glad you're well and hope you're feeling GREAT!!!

I love the idea of a Victory Lap! I’ve been doing that all along without realizing it! I walk around after decluttering and organizing to savor the good work I’ve done. I also take a photo of the result, such as snapping a pic of my newly organized junk drawer, then I share it with my sister in an email message and/or I take a video of it in a Marco Polo conversation. My sister gives me encouragement and moral support to continue the process of moving toward minimalism. When it comes to seasonal décor, though, I definitely enjoy being a bit of a maximalist!

As a family of four...my husband and myself, and two boys ages 13 and 10, I feel that surface clutter will always be a thing to tend to. There will always be mail, school papers or things from church, notebooks....you just have to stay on top of it. I throw junk mail away immediately. We look at graded papers brought home and then they go in the recycle bin unless it's something important. I have a bulletin board for school activity schedules. I also have a hanging wire basket for anything I want to hold on to for a bit and then go thru it regularly. Your videos are always motivating!

My problem is time and running out of it before I can address most of the piles. I sort the clutter into the piles, then take care of the quick piles (trash, recycling, some re-homing usually) and then i literally run out of time and have to go back to taking care of kids or an appointment or my husband interrupts me or it’s meal time; and I can’t get to doing anything with the leftover piles, and it’s like now I just have new piles sitting around. But I have been loving all your tips lately! I literally use “the do it now to make later you happier” and the “I’m never going to want to do it, so I might as well do it now” tips! My life is just that little bit better because of those tips, so thank you I definitely needed to hear that advise!

Great video! Very good point about scheduling time to do these things. I have a little trick when I need to do a countertop Declutter. I have a couple of baskets that I carry around with me with a pen and sticky notes. That way if I need to file, send, or return anything I popped the sticky notes on those things. If I need to put something back, I put it in the basket and carry it around the house with me so that when I am in the correct room I will put those things back.

Your videos are such a huge help for me! To hear that someone else just felt like they were a messy person and thought there was no hope helps me realize that it's a state of mind that has been learned and I can unlearn that habitual thought. Starting with the sink is absolutely a life changer! We have a smaller home/kitchen so I have expanded that to the counters and our dinningroom table. After I get the sink cleaned out I usually have the cleaner out to wipe down the sink anyways so I spray the counters and table while I'm at it. Absolutely amazing habit! And my future self definitely thanks me for it. Next habit to implement is emptying the dishwasher in the mornings.

I think it’s so true that we stop seeing clutter after the second or third thing. Our brain is still registering it and raising our stress. Especially for non neuro normals, my husband doesn’t register what is bothering him. Once we start putting things away he visibly relaxes. I just love things to “look” clean so I actually enjoy putting things away.

Kudos to anyone who can keep up with clutter who have children. I can say this is easy for me at my age and being retired. But I could have used all this help when I was raising the kids. I do know I used to stress about how much “stuff” we had. Now I know it was a real thing. First “big” declutter happened when we moved to a smaller house. Then it snowballed after moving again and again and then these videos have been the icing on the cake!

I agree about how calming it can be to clean up the clutter around my apartment. In fact, I should be so calm by the end of this day because I have surface clutter EVERYWHERE!!! I have noticed when watching various KZbinrs, that the background music 🎶 is not calming. In face it is so distracting that I often miss what is being said. Why is it such a thing on KZbin videos to have what I call ‘jiggy music’ in the background? There must have been a study about the effects of this.
