Whenever I take the needle out, I like to clean off the paint that sticks to the front of the airbrush around the nozzle assembly.

You can use water to clean it, right?

Using an airbrush cleaner is the most effective approach but water can also be used if you are spraying a water soluble paint.

Since I’m saving for a Iwata Compressor, is it okay to use the Tamiya Airbrush cleaner in any Iwata Airbrush, since I’ll be using Tamiya paints mostly

@ IJ Zuikaku For Tamiya acrylics, I’ve been using Lysol All Purpose Cleaner for years. Credit for this tip goes out to Andy’s Hobby Headquarters. However, once the brush is clean, I place a few drops of distilled water in the cup and blow it out under pressure from the compressor. Allow a few seconds of air to continue thru the brush to dry it out. Additional tip: Never remove the needle out the back end of the brush nor never reinsert the needle from the back. Always, always, removal and reinsertion should be done from the front. This method helps preserve the integrity of the point on your needle. I know a lot of videos will show from the back. They are wrong! Think about it!

Yes, any airbrush cleaner is fine and its best to use the cleaner that is designed for the paint you are using. When cleaning, do not soak the entire airbrush body in any cleaning fluid as it can cause harm.

Try using some of the Iwata Lube. Step #8 on this PDF shows you how to apply it: www.iwata-airbrush.com/manuals/iwata_airbrush_cleaning_guide.pdf

Doing just what he did doesn't get it all out in my gun, I have to keep putting the needle in, take it out clean it, put it back in, take it out clean it, it takes four or five times before it comes out clean.

This sounds like a paint / cleaner issue. Couple of things to think about...Some paints are more difficult to clean out of airbrushes than others. What type / formula of paint are you using? Secondly, the cleaning fluid that you use must be suitable at breaking down the specific paint that you are using. If you are using multiple formulas, these may not be compatible or you may need more that one cleaning solvent. (Ask the paint manufacturer). If you are using craft paint instead of airbrush paint, those will be very difficult to clean (the particles are too large) and will cause a lot of clogs. If you are using thinners, are you using the manufacturer recommended thinning agent? Give these variables some thought as this is likely a paint issue, not an airbrush issue

@@iwatamedea1 I probably need a stronger. I bought a starter pack of paint and it came with cleaner. The air brush is also a cheap starter model. I have some commercial thinners and cleaners I'll try, I was just using what came with the kit.

No siphon feed video?
@iwatamedea1
@iwatamedea1 2 ай бұрын
Not yet. For siphon feed styles, remove the paint bottle and attach a bottle full of cleaning fluid (the kind that is appropriate for the specific type of paint you are using). Flush a generous amount through the airbrush until it runs clear. Clean the front caps (as shown in the gravity feed videos). Check the needle for any dried paint and make sure the area where the bottle attaches is clean

So you don't need to take out the nozzle cap and nozzle to clean after a session? My old airbrush would clog horribly if I didn't do that! How often should you do a deep clean, where you need to clean the nozzle? Thanks!
@iwatamedea1
@iwatamedea1 2 жыл бұрын
If you perform a good end of spray session every time you are done spraying you shouldn't have to remove the nozzle each time. The goal is to clean out the paint so it does not dry and cause problems. We recommend a deep clean whenever your airbrush's spray performance begins to decline. How often will depend on how frequently you spray with it and what type of paint you use. Make sure to watch our Deep Clean video as well!
