Join us today on the farm as we come inside and take care of our horse tack. Cleaning horse tack such as saddles, bridles and even our boots is important and we explain why. It's not just for looks but a safety percaution! We give the the leather an oil treatment that will help keep the tack in tip top condition. Join us as we work together as a family and have a little fun in the process! Bonus..evening farm chores. Evening time on the farm is peaceful and tonight was no exception!

One thing to keep in mind is to pull the stirrup leathers out to oil where they come up over the saddle tree. This is the most common place for saddle leather to break because people dont see it and thus don't oil it. All your weight is on that leather and can break easily if not oiled. Just give the fender a hard tug or two and oil where it has been bent over.

Compound I have been told will rot stitching. Use the pure neetsfoot oil. Also I recommend using a glycerine saddle soap first. Tack care is so important, learning to take care of what we have. Also to investigate any safety issues! Congratulations on 10 thousand subs! Put some new rubber on horn. 😊 I would take off stirrup hobbles and undo metal part to really soak leather under there. I saw a bad wreck from someone who put off replacing a girth and off billet that was worn. Not good! I did cringe when oil got on seat. 😢

I've been told neatsfoot rots the sticking over time but my saddle is 50 years old and I found the neat shoot allows mold to form more quickly than rots the sticking. Mold is a trouble near the rivers in Illinois, especially if you don't get to ride every week.

I use to use the broom handle on the stirrups but on a quick change stirrup it's easy to turn the connection and it automatically changes the stirrups hanging to the needed direction. It took me a couple of tries to change the direction the right directio but it's quick, easy and permanent.

Congrats on 10k! The only thing I’d suggest(and let’s see if I can describe it right) is cut a 4 -5 inch piece of old latigo, poke two holes on either end and thread them up under your current latigo and off billet where they rub against the D rings. Your billets will never wear out and you can replace that little piece of leather whenever it gets too worn through. Something my grandpa taught me and thought I’d pass along. Have a good day!

I usually brush saddle off, then damp wipe saddle; before putting beats foot oil on it. Reason I do that; I get deep into the tooling & crevices to clear all dirt & dust from saddle before the oil. S o the oil gets deeper into all areas of the saddle. Try it, you’ll be happy the treatment lasts longer cause you got deeper in the leather. Good luck.

Hey.!!! I'm wondering if you every had or have a horse stable. Since its winter . they are just standing all the time. Having a stable they can lay down on the hay. And block some of that wind. If you dont have one this can be your next project. Because you have a herd.🥰🥰🥰

Just wanted to pass along leather and tack care that I aquired from helping a very good saddle and harness maker .....the best thing you can do for leather ....even dry cracked leather is a brush.....a little saddle soap and water.....yep water....as he showed me dry leather will not pull oil down deep into the leather.....when you wet and wash the leather the water soaks the leather.....then as the leather begins to dry you start applying the neatsfoot oil and S the water dries out if the leather the o in l will penetrate deeper because the leather fibers have been rejuvenated and will now act more sponge like absorbing the oil......just FYI
