I have heard one beauty blogger, who challenged herself not to use the same lip product for a month, then whatever was unused in her stash, she disposed of--leaving herself with 30 well loved lipsticks. Pretty brutal but effective (I'm not sure I could commit to only 30 lipsticks!). Maybe some type of plan like that would help you to determine what to keep. Carry on, I actual like seeing these types of videos. Hugs, Melissa

You know Rachael I went through the same makeup declutter situation. Its a journey though. What i did was i started off the same way and then do like a small declutter every 2-3 months. And now my collection just has things that i love and use. Ask yourself, do i really like this that i would want to recommend to a viewer (because that was your main argument) if the answer is no then there is no point of mentioning this product in a blog post or wherever. Good luck with this, i am really happy you started doing this.

This is a good attitude ^^ Im doing the same now - if I dont LOVE it or if there is something similar that is better then it goes! Same goes for products I havent used in 6 months. Goodluck Rach, loving these videos so much!

I love these kinds of videos! and I love that you made into more of a casual vloggy video rather than what most people (including myself) do with 'declutter' videos. I think you did so well :) and I too de-cluttered then started reading the Marie Kondo book haha!! xx

Well done Rachael👍🏼keep it up😊 Its so mentally freeing when u know exactly what you have and getting rid of excess. I just cleared out my wardrobe which I always do when the seasons start to change and it feels soooo good. I'm that type of person where if one of any type of product comes into my house , one has to leave unless I use it / wear it often. And that applies to everything from kitchenware to shoes to make up, to clothes, everything basically. Peoples houses and cupboards and all storage will contain a finite amount of space in which to hold our possessions and I REFUSE to be that person who buys more storage for more stuff. I don't need that stress in my life😅

I completely understand your guilty feelings - I was doing a similar thing last year with my clothes and it's crazy how much stuff we can accumulate and then never really use. I think often it's just the thrill of having something new and after a while it kinda wears off so you look for another exciting new thing! I'm the same in terms of sentimental attachments to things too - it can be so hard to let go of things! I've actually made huge progress over this year though. Have you heard of "the minimalists"? They have an awesome blog and although their lifestyle is quite on he extreme minimalist side, I've definitely found their blog super helpful in helping to declutter and learn to let go! I'd definitely recommend checking them out f you're interested! 😊

What helps me when getting rid of things is thinking about who would get the thing. I give my old clothes to my friend with 5 siblings and it makes it easier to think "callie would appreciate this more than I will"

I completely understand what you mean about loving something at one time and then not liking it anymore. I used to have a massive love for coloured eye liner and mascara and I bought so many of them and now I stick to basic black, the annoying thing was that I had placed an order online for a huge stack of them and whilst I was waiting for them to arrive, I felt drawn away from coloured ones and more inclined to reach for the black ones.

Enormous amount of lovely stuff you got there. i love lip stuff 💋💖💋💖 Good you are in a mood to cull, you'll feel much freer after you do. Im sure you have friends in mind or to sell it but if not your local women's shelters are often very happy to take them and it really cheers up the ladies. Obvs not telling you what to do just in case you had not thought what to do with any spares or leftovers. It would be great to hear a vlog of how you feel emotionally after the final cull. Its really motivating to hear the benefits of a big clear out. No need to feel guilty Rach we all have stuff we accumulate too much of, mine is clothing. By the way there is an audio version of someone reading that full book on youtube. Xo

I would suggest you should definitely watch some Project Pan videos and see if that gives you inspiration to use up your products, and then maybe you won't feel so guilty because you really got your moneys worth! There's a large project pan community on KZbin that helps to motivate each other to use their products and they are some of my favourite videos to watch.

I read Marie Kondos book and I did everything except make up. I find it very hard to let go of my make up especially when I can say it brings me joy. However, I must go through everything again and purge a bit more. Well done.

Completely understand the guilt. That feeling of 'I spent money on this but I've never worn/used/read it. I wasted my money and time' I'm trying to cut down my stuff and have been absorbing every minimalism/organisation book, blog, podcast I can get my hands on. I keep having to remind myself that empty space has value and the more I give away the more space I have. I don't know what the charity shop situation is in Australia but for some things (books, clothes, some furniture) they really help get rid of the guilt because it's no longer money you wasted, it's now a donation.

We are the exact opposite I struggle purchasing makeup. I live in Western Syd as well and made a trip to the city specifically to buy a whole new range of makeup and ended up coming home with one lipstick - complete fail. I have two kids and struggle spending money on myself especially as I have recently gone back to study. Your videos give me wonderful makeup advice though - I love your honesty with products and when I finally manage to splurge I have a list of products to try

I do regular clean outs and that way items never get very old before I find out that I don't care for it or prefer something else. Then there's less guilt because I can find a new home for most things.

I really need to declutter my lip products (I have almost 300) but I just can't! I used to declutter at the start of every season, but now I've started to develop weird attachments to my makeup. An example: I have worn red lipstick twice in the past two years, and I keep all 20 of my red lip products. Another example being out of my 10 Alex drawers (I have two sets of five), 9 are filled with makeup. 4 of said 9 have eye products, 3 of which have palettes. And I know I'm getting a lot more lip products and palettes for Christmas and my birthday, because I always ask for and love lip products and eye and cheek palettes

hey Rachel! You might find it useful to read up a bit on the environmental and social costs of purchasing more (make up/clothes/homewares/etc.) than you really need. I found that learning about the consequences of my consumerism really motivated me to be more mindful about the items I'd bring into my collection, and also the ethics of the brands I was purchasing from :)

I can relate - I have old lipglosses that i don't use but i'm having trouble throwing them out - This is probably going to age me but i still have alot/few lipsmackers, and last i knew they are'nt made anymore - I have one that's got sparkles and like fake diamond on the cap from a collection - I know i need to throw them out but its so very hard ( not a money issue ) - also money stuff with other makeup -.- ugh

I don’t know if it’s a thing in Australia, but here in the States, there’s a lot of women’s shelters (like for victims of domestic violence and such) that take makeup donations.
