What fun! Made me go look thru my stash, some of which I haven't seen in 20 years including some I've had for 40+ years. Was like Xmas early...Now i'm juiced up to go thru all of them and rework with new setups and see how they sound. Have a Gene Autry parlor model, all mahogany body and neck, but has been refinished (wild hair my Dad got back in the 60's to do), that I got when I was 5 and was used then...68 now, so you do the math...and it still plays well. Also have a KayKraft tenor banjo, pearloid headstock overlay, closed back, all original around 40's vintage. I even ran onto a Trutone lap steel in case in my stash with original cord that is hardwired in, fingerpicks and slide, and an extra pack of strings. 40's would be my guess. Think I'll just keep all mine.

Yep. Once you work out the intonation issues, maybe level and crown some frets, shim a neck if needed, turn a truss rod, oil some tuning keys, etc... Some of these guitars can become very playable, enjoyable guitars to own, and they have CHARACTER! Not like all the crap you find at Guitar Centers over and over again.

Wow, that brown Dan Electro looks just like my first guitar! My dad won it in a pool game at a bar called tge Flame Room back in 62! I somehow lost it in my move to Oklahoma back in 76. I have the Ampeg Super Stud GE 500 in red. With fretless wonder frets. I put a Velvet Hammer pickup in the bridge, with a 3-way toggle. My first electric.

hey brad. good to see some of my favorite oddball guitars in there. kapa continentals are fantastic guitars, i've only ever seen 1 in the uk and had to try it. the guitar around the 12:00 mark is a matsumoku guitar and those trems are often considered some of the best vintage trems. the heit guitars were also branded as antoria, columbus and a few others. in the uk, they were sold in woolworths.

I about fell off my seat when I saw the Del Ray since it was the exact one I owned. That was my first electric my father bought me around 1987 as a teen. Never really gave it chance, thanks for sharing

Brad, my Teisco?/Japan St. George T-64 BASS VI 1962 was put under a bed by my mom for 15 years before I had it in my crawlspace for 10 years before putting in on the wall and making some METAL vids with the BEAST VI Dude!! It's never to late to make those suckers JAM! (...and it's had a glued/cracked neck, repainted in 1980 and only makes sound, very lightly from the middle pickup, buzzes when you let go of the strings and other issues)

On the Telecaster, no, the roller nut came standard, it's the same as the American standard but with noiseless pickups, block saddles and roller nut

The thing that got me was how thin these Japanese guitars are. My 1st electric was a Strat type made by Apollo. It had all the pickups and hardware that many of these have. When I saw the Stones and other groups on Saturday morning rock shows, like the Paul Revere & The Raiders, that had Vox amps and guitars, I made a teardrop body and put the Apollo neck on it. Yuck! It was even worse than the original confirmation. My brother had the 2 pickup version of the Silvertone amp in a case.great look at your collection. Good luck! pt.2 will be as interesting. Thanxz

oh dude my little Czech heart kinda sunk when i saw the Jolana gigbag and i knew what you were going to pull out of it. I've got one myself and i tend to play it as my couch guitar. Those pickups are microphonic as hell but it sounds so amazing. They are from the mid 60's. Mine is 1965, most were made from 1962 to about 67.

Jolanas are notoriously hit and miss on quality too, as I'm sure you know. This one seems to be a good one.

@@TheGuitologist I've owned many as they used to be sold for extremely cheap until about two years ago, so i know what you're talking about. Nowadays the bad ones tend to be in the trash and the prices are starting to rise even here in the country of their origin, though. Some models are usualy very good, the late 70's LP style Jolana Diamant and the 80's Rickenbacker 4003 style D-bass. They were the most expensive instruments in the range and it really shows, i have yet to see a bad D-bass myself. Some others I'd recommend are the IRIS and IRIS BASS tele style guitars, they were made in the early 70's and the bad ones ended up as "vikomt" single pickup models. Pre 1960 resonet branded guitars are also very good, but they are commanding 50's strat prices here as they're very collectible.

I recognize that red guitar with the damaged body. I don't remember the name of the Japanese manufacturer but they were sold in department stores c. 1970 as "Tempo." My brother had one with this same neck and body, but it had a black pickguard and a single surface-mount pickup. The pickup wasn't shaped like this but it also had dimpled gold foil under a chrome cover. There was also a two-pickup version. I wound up with the guitar and at some point in the 80s I carved it up and made a short-scale bass (actually, "tenor" or "piccolo" bass depending on how I felt like stringing it). Gave it a Badass bridge and a Bigsby, too. Yes, I'm sorry I did that; now that I actually play [at] guitar it'd have been a blast to really fire it up.

Love the 60s and 70s Japanese guitars...I had a lefty Satellite les Paul and it was awesome! And I've never been able to find another lefty. Wish you had some leftys I would be on it like a car bonnet....

I really dig the 1991 Fender Telecaster with Gibson pickup, I'd honestly keep that baby. Never really cared for those, but I like that one. My son has a Jim Root signature model Telecaster that I like as well.

Man, that Matsumoku cat was really into the German carve! I've got an Epi SC-450 Scroll that was made in the mid-70s in the Matsumoku factory. Those all had German carves too. The SCs never gained huge collector value, and I can't imagine why not. I guess most people just don't dig that ultra cool scroll on the bass side of the upper bout, but I love it. The backstory on my SC-450 for those who like to read about that kind of thing. I was working in the tattoo shop in Biloxi, MS, when a friend came by to tell me that "there's a Gibson guitar at a yard sale in Ocean Springs this lady wants $125 for." So I finished the tattoo I was doing and broke every traffic law I could on my way to get there, only to find out it was an Epi, not a Gibby. The lady said she worked for Epiphone in their offices for 30 years and the guitar was her retirement gift from the company, but neither she or anyone in her family were musicians, so it was in "mint condition." The dime-sized "bruise" on the treble side of the lower bout said that wasn't quite correct, and the chipboard case was why it picked up that particular blemish, but the rest of it was, and still is, in mint condition. So, after a few minutes of me playing pretty half-assed like it was too much of a POS to be worth much, along with some skillful haggling by both of us, I wound up with a new (to me,) soulmate. It's one of my least played, but most beloved guitars, and one of those I'll always cherish. I'm very glad she decided to finally part with it on that day. Between my happening to be living in that area, my non-musician friend stumbling across it in a yard sale, and my getting to it before anyone who may have known what it is had gotten to it makes for a long, strange trip it had been through. I never would have been living in MS if I hadn't been stationed there in the Air Force, so that applies to the "long, strange trip." It's great how things work out, sometimes.

I had a black DelRay like the blue one 35 years ago. On mine the pickups were really weak. The body wood was really soft and dented easily. I gave the roller bridge to my brother for his UniVox Hi-Flyer. The rest was put aside for a future project. I don't remember what I did with it, but I think that I eventually tossed it out, unfortunately.

I'm a lefty, so I hate to convert any old guitars for my playing style. That said, I loved seeing you go through all your guitars, especially the teiscos! I have an old teisco I paid fifty bucks for and turned it into a drone guitar with an ostrich tuning with a bunch of old bass and really thick gauge guitar strings. It's also a nice slide guitar as well. My favorite was the Heit Deluxe by far. I've grown to like older full hollow-body guitars for their feedback capabilities as you said.

@@joeloxig6872 Yep! But it's also kinda annoying to have the volume and tone pots stabbing your left arm as you play since it's all flipped. It's not the worst thing in the world though. I have a squier jaguar that I flipped into a lefty that plays pretty decently.

I had an Ampeg heavy stud in HS. It was heavy and well made .I ended up trading it in on a 78 Ibanez l.p. copy which I always regretted selling it

Is a fender frontman reverb worth repair? I replaced the fuse still no power the ground pin on the power cord was loose so I might replace that if that doesn't do it what in your opinion could it be I am electronic tech but have lost he vision required for most troubleshooting.

The Jolana you show at 16:40 is a funky guitar for sure - and not in a good way. I bet they are absolutely rare over there in the States, but they were - and still are - quite common here in East-Europe, since they were made in Czeczhoslovakia, a state that does not even exist anymore. These were the best electrics you could have back then in the Eastern Bloc until like 1989. These Jolanas are dirt cheap here in Hungary, however, the hollow bodies like Marina, Tornado, Alexis and Rubin are getting more and more attention and bigger price tags nowadays again.

Are those the Silvertone Amp-in-a-case things behind you on the right? I remember those! We used to mess with those in the late 80's because my friend's grandfather had one. We were in our 20's and in a band and we'd screw around with one of them when we were in any kind of downtime from practicing or gigs. They're fun to mess with! You can actually get a cool sounding fuzz from them! EDIT: Yep! You confirmed it! Wow! Brings back memories!

The cream and brown Danelectro is the best looking one, at least to me. I would never sell that if it were mine. I am an acoustic player, ya'll be crazy with with all those knobs, wiggle sticks and controls... lol...

#7 on the rack reminds me of the Takamine GZ-300 I paid $100 at a pawn shop for and gigged with for 4 years, lovely feeling guitar to play, hit a rough spot and had to sell it and a basket case 64 Fender Jag I restored to keep a roof over my head and ramen for a few months.
