'The Longest Day' - When I was growing up my dad owned a dairy farm milking over 100 head of Holsteins. He had just built a new milk parlor and was waiting for the generator to be delivered so it wasn't yet installed. We had a bad storm hit that knocked out all the power which left us no alternative but to milk all 100 plus cows by hand. Four of us milked cows all day and by the time we had finished with the last cow it was time to start milking all over again cause the cows as any dairyman knows has to be milked every 12 hours. Luckily the power came back on half way through the second milking. I couldn't do anything with my hands for a couple days after that. I was twelve at the time. The joys of growing up on a dairy farm. My hats off to you guys for all the hard work and long hours you put in to provide dairy products for the masses. Cheers.. and Dairy On...

Yeah, 100 head by hand? That'd make for some serious hand cramps!

Wow! That would be pretty tough! We've been milking one cow once a day by had because she's been pretty weak lately and we don't want her to go down in the parlour and that's enough for me! I can't imagine doing 100 cows.... Made for a good story though!!

Great to see a young man take pride in keeping things clean and tidy!!! Fab livestock maintenance and great comfy set up for both cows and calves!! Over here in Ireland we use a bag of plain old lime to throw over the pen floors if not pressure washing between cleanings. Great cheap disinfectant and goes out on the land after in the manure!!
